JACK RUSSELL BIRMINGHAM NATIONAL 23 Judge: Mr Veli-Pekka Kumpumaki (Finland) JACK RUSSELL JUDGE BIRMINGHAM NATIONAL 23 If I had to choose my favourite breed to judge my choice would be the Jack Russell terrier. I have judged a lot of them everywhere during the years but I just can’t get enough. I remember back in the 80’s when I spent a summer as a kennel boy in the UK and I saw Jack Russells around every corner and just everywhere. Couldn’t understand why they were not recognized as a breed back then as everyone knew “ the breed”. Well I had the priviledge of judging two of the specialities in Finland before the breed was official. I had to choose between 3 different “breed standards” but I made the right choice. The breed now has taken big steps forward and for better on many cases and the popularity has maintained or maybe even increased? I found some lovely Jack Russells. In fact my Best of Breed is exactly what I want of the breed. His type, size and balance are superb. He was my King of the day.-All my other main winners were of a very high quality and they fit in the standard very well. -- Some individuals were long in the loins , a very common fault in this breed. Please keep in mind that the ribcage of correct shape and length is of prime importance. The front legs were straight and this is not always the case elsewhere. I found some incorrect coat textures. There are three varities of coats and that’s enough. The breed should be easy to groom and they should not have too much furnishings. The temperaments were good and happy and even the exhibitors seemed to cheer each other up which was wonderful. Great athmosphere so to say. And last but not least, it was truly a joy to see young Master Jacob, 6 years old, in the ring handling his happy bitch. He did everything by the book and it must have given us all a promise of a better future in this sport of dogs. I wish you Jacob a continued success as well as all the other Jack Russell fanciers too! Thank You for a lovely Coronation Day! 1 Harris Kulawand Wicked Womble. Happy dog with lovely temperament, masculine head and expression, good ears, nice eye, needs a bit more filling in his muzzle, good ribcage, good bone, a bit short in upperarm and needs more angulation in his rear, lacks drive, very good harsh coat 1 Jones Kaszavolgyi-Furge Milton NAF. Lovely well balanced puppy with correct proportions, nice head and expression, good ears, very nice topline, well angulated, good coat, moved and showed well 2 Thornley Dancing in the Dark at Robythorn, a happy puppy, a bit leggy at the moment, could be shorter in loin, nice head but a bit low set ears, nice topline and rear end, front movement needs to settle and needs a new coat. 3 Copping & Winnard Rutaaro Back to Black 1 Horwood Tippanagh Columbo at Wudjak ( IKC). Beautiful puppy, excellent proportions, lovely head and expression, slightly large ears but well set, excellent topline and carriage of neck, excellent well balanced angulations and it shows in his movement, excellent form of ribcage, excellent coat, Best Puppy. 2 Duke & Gill Rushden Burning Bridges. Happy outgoing puppy, Strong bone, excellent head and expression, nice topline, very good ribcage, slightly long in the loin, moved and showed well. 3 Young & McCluskey Totgrees Hendrick Imp It 1 Witmond & Fonzo All Jacks Urano. Well built, masculine with very nice temperament, good carriage of neck, still a bit narrow in head, good ears, good ribcage, moved very well, coat not in best bloom yet 2 Harris Kulawand Wicked Womble 1 Kay Blazingjacks Best Mate with Jackopeaks. Very nice head and expression, lovely dark eye, good ears, needs more angulation and a slightly shorter loin, his tail is not his fortune, excellent coat, moved well with good drive, a bit unsettled in front 1 Corbett & Rosell Soletrader On Your Marks. Lovely temperament, nice head and expression, slightly large in ear, good front, very good ribcage, needs a bit stronger angulated rear end, lacks drive in his movement, coat ok 2 Thornley & Smith Fast Love With Locheil ShCEx. Good proportions, nice head, eyes could be a little darker, good ears, nice topline, well angulated behind, less in front, a bit unsteady front movement, needs better carriage of neck, good coat 1 Ednie, Kaszavolgy- Furge -Xenon at Blazingjacks IMP Hun. I liked everything about him, correct type, he has perfect proportions and balance, excellent ribcage, bone, substance and topline, excellent head and expression, perfect easy parallell movement with a lot of drive and a well carried neck. What more is needed? A very worthy winner! Best Dog, BOB. 2 Averis & Barker Jap CH Monamour Hot Dance at Saredon IMP Jap Another Stunning Dog with a super topline, perfect showman, excellent movement and carriage of neck, Nice head, a bit narrow underjaw and his ears could be better, a bit short in upperarm, excellent rear end and tailset, coat could be more harsh 3 Witmond Tiltser Manhatton 1 Gleave Montravia Twizzle N Twirl. A happy bitch, a bit round in body and ribcage, a light head but feminine expression, ears could be better, nice topline, needs more angulations,coat ok, Perfectly handled by 6 years old Jacob. Too see him co-operate with his bitch was one of the highlights of the day! Congratulations Jacob and keep on your good work! Best Special Beginner 1 Tate Jaeva Cotton Candy. A very happy puppy, good proportions, very good bone, nice head and feminine expression, good topline and tailset, still a bit unsteady in her front movement 2 Porter-Manning & Porter Roxway Sunflower Among Wallaroo. Feminine, nice head and expression, ears could be smaller, a bit long in the loin and her ribcage could be longer, topline needs to become more firm, time will help, nice coat, nice movement 3 MacDonald & Turner Locheil Juliet Bravo 1 Irving Twinan Dance Little Sister. A Happy, feminine bitch puppy with good proportions, needs more filling in her muzzle otherwise a nice head, good ears, enough engulated and showed a good movement, a well carried neck and a good topline, well set tail, ribcage could be longer 2 Wilkinson & Wakeham Chandlimore Take a Chance for WakyWilks. Another happy bitch, a bit long in body and needs a firmer fopline, feminine head a bit large ears, soft and open in coat 1 Tate & Nagrecha Jaeva Page Turner Chandlimore. A lovely bitch, so feminine and has a super attitude, excellent carriage of neck and topline, beautiful head and expression, good ears, super rear end and tailset, excellent ribcage, good coat, Moved very well Best Bitch. 2 Evans Kulawand Wicked Whisper at JackPack, another beauty, lovely head and expression, good ears, excellent topline, well set tail, good rear, excellent ribcage, nice movement and showed well. 3 Witmond All Jacks to Tiltser with Love (Imp It) 1 Deegan & Spencer-Gray Lovely Orange Never Say Never. A nice bitch with excellent bone , good head and expression, good ear and dark eye, very good topline, long ribcage of correct shape, slightly short in upper arm, excellent rear end, good coat, moved well 2 Ridyard Kulawand Wicked Waffle. A well balanced bitch with a well carried neck, nice topline, good angulations, a bit light in bone, good ribcage, needs more filling in her muzzle, moved and showed well, coat ok 1 Evans Caldbeckjack Primrose at JackPack. Nice feminine bitch, small but fierce, feminine head and expression, ears could fold a bit better, lovely topline and carriage of neck, good ribcage, enough bone, well angulated in rear, very good coat, moved with excellent drive. 2 Young & McCluskey Ray of Light Delle Syrenuse. A well build bitch with a nice temperament, good head and expression, just enough angulated, topline could be better and needs more powerful movement, good coat. 3 Grime Twinan Wild Child at Ansona 1 Britton & Miles Locheil Love of My Life. A lovely bitch of excellent type, super temperament, Correct topline and carriage, nice feminine head and expression, well build body and ribcage, excellent coat, moved and showed to her advantage 2 Horwood Calavey’s Jelly Bean. Happy outgoing bitch, stood beautifully on her feet and moved well, still a bit narrow, good ribcage, nice coat, very nice feminine expression. 3 Roberts & Murray Ducklings Jr Just Qutie at Mindlen 1 Tate Imp Rus Lovely. Orange Gefjon Jaeva. Super attitude! Excellent body proportions, good bone, very good topline, good ribcage and a well set tail, excellent coat, eyes are set a bit close to each other, good ears, moved very well from the side a bit unsteady in front A quality bitch! Res Best Bitch 2 Jones Jun Ch Perfect Love di Sutri at Laserna (Imp It). I liked her a lot, very well constructed bitch of high quality, excellent topline, good ribcage, excellent coat, lovely movement with a lots of drive. She pushed hard for the top spot but I felt she still needs a bit more time and that is not a fault! 3 Duke & Gill Rushden Anya 1 MacDonald & Turner All Jacks Unusual at Locheil, nice proportions, not in coat today, good breed typical silhoutte, big body, good bone, moved ok. 2 Kay Jackopeaks Princess Peach VW, 14 years old! A happy veteran who enjoyed her day out, she had a lot of fun in the ring and it was nice to see, good smooth coat 3 Saich Cumbreck Lady Penelope
