LAKELAND JUDGE BIRMINGHAM NATIONAL 19

I had great expectations and high hopes for this breed. It is a great pity that the entries are so low. Lakies are so very attractive and I really hope that they will be found again as a breed. They need more determined breeders worldwide. Maybe one of the difficulties are caused by the grooming that has to be done so often? Many Lakelands have difficult coats and they are too soft in quality. Years back I used to own one too and I think I have rather stripped two Airedales in a row than to maintain his ears, cheeks and front every week! Kudos to all of you! I found some good quality Lakelands at Birmingham National. They were very typy with correct proportions, nice toplines, well set tails and nice expressions. But the movement let me down! I was amazed to see such jumping behind without proper reach and drive! And I don’t know the reason for this. The bitch I gave Best of Breed to gave me a hard time in the beginning but in the end I was very happy with her. She’s a true Lakie. Thank you all for a very nice time judging your dogs. It was most interesting and yes, I still love the breed. A lot!

PD (1)

1 Anderson & Watt’s Nisyros Somersby. Very typy, small in size, needs to mature in body, good head and expression, good small ears, beautiful topline, well angulated behind with a well set tail, he needs more time with his front and front movement, good quality of coat.

PGD (1)

1 Cook’s Turflindie Diamond Chaser. Strong masculine dog, a lot of substance, a bit heavy in head, strong bone, enough angulated behind, good tailset, could carry his topline better and move with better drive, difficult coat quality.certainly not easy to groom!

LD (2)

1 Connel & Benyon’s Keldthwaite Asterix The Gaul. RCC. I loved him. Masculine, compact and well balanced. Excellent topline when standing. Excellent head and expression. Lovely coat and condition. On the move he needed a better carriage of neck and better hind movement. His construction promised so much more.

2 Eddon’s Turflindie Diamond Dealer. Happy dog with a good dark eye. Good ears. Lacks in angulation and needs a better coat. Front movement unsettled. Would like to see a better topline and a more width of thighs.

OD (2, 1)

1 Schoneberg’s Paperman Moondriver. CC. Excellent size and type. Beautiful proportions. Excellent head with correct ears and dark eyes. Good bone. Well bodied. Good topline. Well set tail. Coat in beautiful condition, but a bit short. On the move he could have carried his topline better and he was lacking in drive.

SBB (1)

1 Cook’s Turflindie Blue Moon At Terrahawk. Inexperienced, feminine bitch who needs to settle and get more ring training, good head and expression, ears ok, temporarily good topline, coat is just coming through, liked to pace a lot.

MPB (1)

1 Johnston’s Wiltonwood Maggie Mae. A lovely puppy! Very typy. Excellent head and expression, beautiful ears. Beautiful topline that held well on the move. Well set tail. Excellent coat and condition. Well matured for her age but the ribcage is still on its way. Best Puppy, Res CC.

PB (4)

1 Johnston’s Wiltonwood Maggie Mae. (See MPB).

2 Cook’s Turflindie Blue Moon At Terrahawk (See SBB).

PGB (2)

1 Anderson & Watt’s Chelines Madam Pompadour (Imp). Very nice type, very good proportions in her body, long head, good dark eye, small ears, good topline and tailset, her front and front movement could be better, excellent coat quality.

2 Cook’s Turflindie Kirrie Dumpling. Feminine bitch with lovely temperament, nice type, very nice head and expression, a bit wide and loose in front and that shows in her movement, good coat.

LB (4, 1)

1 Connell & Smith’s Sonorra Wishful Spirit. Excellent bitch. Very correct and typy. Nothing overdone here. Excellent body and substance. Lovely head and feminine expression. Loved her topline. Well set tail. Excellent coat and condition. In the beginning she did not move either which worried me a lot but after the change of the handler she showed her beautiful well balanced movement. What a relief! Happy to see her being pulled out in the group!

2 De Munter-Uiterwjik’s Queen Mary Van Foliny Home. Feminine, with a very nice head and expression, good topline, well set tail, good coat, moved ok, short on leg

3 Davani’s Kebulak Hell In High Heels.

OB (2, 1)

1 Schoneberg’s Paperman Julia. Beautiful bitch, lovely head and expression, enough bone, very nice profile when standing but her movement left a lot to desire, tail could be higher set, too short coat.
