LAKELAND TERRIER CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW – 14TH JULY 2018

It is always special to judge a breed club show and this was no exception. My involvement with the LTC spans almost 40 years firstly as a Committee member, then Secretary followed by Chairman and now as President. Thank you to the Committee for inviting me to judge the Championship Show and to the Exhibitors for the lovely entry. Thank you also to my two stewards. It really was a very enjoyable day.

I had some very nice exhibits to go over. Well-presented and shown to a high standard. On another day top honours could have been a different story. Just a couple of points. The standard calls for teeth to be ‘even with a perfect, regular scissor bite’ – a couple of mouths did not quite match this criteria. Otherwise dentition was very good. Movement was generally good with just a couple of the exhibits ‘toeing’ in at the front. A little more lead training would have presented a better picture in one or two other exhibits.

MPD (1)

1. Vickers’ & Punter’s Eskwyre Red Devil – very promising 7 month old shown in excellent coat and very well presented. Correct head proportions and well placed ears, good pigmentation,  lovely reach of neck with good lay back of shoulder. Straight front, strong quarters with the tail well set on. Moved well once settled. BPD

PD (1)

1.  Averis & Barker’s Saredon This Is England- dark grizzle shown in reasonable coat and well presented. Balanced head and correct set of ears. Correct body proportions with strong quarters. A promising puppy but he does need to settle.

JD (3)

Three nice dogs

1. De Munters’ Q Party Van Foliny Home – a red shown in beautiful condition. Harsh, dense coat. Well balanced head, well-placed ears and dark eye giving that keen expression which is so important in this breed. Good reach of neck going into well laid back shoulders, lovely overall balance with strong body. Moved and showed well. Pushed hard for the top spot but just lost out on maturity RDCC.

2. Connell & Benyon’s Keldthwaite Asterix The Gaul – another nice red dog, bigger than the winner but well-proportioned and of similar quality. Strong back with tail well set on, straight front, moved well both ways- just preferred the head of 1.

3. Johnston’s Oregill Black Jack.

PGD (2)

1. Rougvie’s Turflindie Diamond Dealer – red shown in reasonable coat. Presentation could be a little tighter which would improve the overall picture. Balanced head with dark eye but would prefer better ear carriage to give that keen expression. Size and overall balance were correct. Just needs to settle on the move.

LD (2)

1. Kerrigan & Leadbeater’s Leadstaffs Casanova – black & tan, balanced head with well-placed ears and dark eye, straight front and well balanced overall. Moved okay.

2. Rougvie’s Turflindie Diamond Chaser –grizzle, slightly smaller than 1. Litter brother to the PGD winner and, mainly, the same comments apply. Moved okay.

OD (4)

1. Schoneberg’s Ch Paperman Atlantis – smart grizzle, well presented and on his toes. Balanced & compact, strong body & quarters with tail well set on, good reach of neck going into well laid back shoulders, straight front, compact feet. Moved & showed well DCC & RBIS

2. Johnston’s Oregill Hot Pursuit – another promising grizzle who will certainly have his day. A balanced dog all through and of correct size. Tail on top and strong hindquarters, good head but could have used his ears to better advantage. Moved okay.

Breeders Dog or Bitch (1)

1. Mackenzies’ Nyamindi Code Red – one of the best movers on the day with great drive and at one with her handler. Dark eye and good pigmentation not always seen in a red. Well-presented and in good coat, good reach of neck, straight front. Would just prefer her a little smaller.

MPB (1)

1. Vickers’ & Punter’s Eskwyre Red Nell – litter sister to the MPD winner and similar comments apply. Very well presented with correct coat. She is very alert but does need to settle which will come with age. Very promising.

PB (1)

1. Connells’ Sonorra Wishful Spirit – loved this pup, just right for her age. A smart, balanced grizzle, correct coat, good head & ears giving that keen expression. Tail on top with good rear angulation and straight front. Good presentation, moved and showed well. BPIS

JB (4)

1. De Munters’ Queen Mary Van Foliny Home – a quality bitch, litter sister to the RDCC winner. Balanced with good reach of neck, good hindquarters with the tail well set on. Pleasing head and expression, shown in good coat and very well presented. Moved out very well.

2. Johnston’s Oregill Tickled Pink – another promising bitch of correct size. Dark grizzle with a well-balanced outline, shown in good coat. Nice head & expression. Would just prefer less hind leg trimmings.

3. Baldwin’s Robelroy Rasheeda.

PGB (2)
Both absent

LB (3)

1. Davani’s Kebulak Hell In High Heels – good overall balance, correct head with keen expression, shoulders well laid back, tail well set on and shown in good coat. Moved okay.

2. Rougvie’s Dripping In Diamonds – compact & balanced and in good coat. Would like a better lift of ears. Although the ears should not be set too high they should be carried alertly to give the keen expression. Good rear action when moving.

OB (6)

A very nice class of bitches.

1. Vickers’ Lacus Someone Told Me At Eskwyre – feminine bitch shown in first class order. Correct coat texture, balanced head, small dark eye, well placed ears giving the correct expression. Good reach of neck running into well laid back shoulders, strong compact body with tail well set on and carried correctly. Good rear angulation, moved out very well. Excellent presentation and well handled – pleased to award her the BCC & BIS

2. Greenway’s Ch Rayfos Turning Point – smart grizzle of nice size, typical head & ears, straight front, good reach of neck & shoulder placement, tail well set on and strong hindquarters. In good coat & well presented. Moved very well both ways. RBCC

3. Johnston’s Oregill Hot Topic.

Veteran Dog or Bitch Not In Show Trim  (1)

1. Rose’s That’s My Harry – I have seen this dog & owner before and they really enjoy their day out. 10 years young and full of life – lovely to see. BV
