LAKELAND NATIONAL TERRIER 14 Judge(s): W R IRVING Lakeland Terriers The entry of 22 was about par for the course for the breed these days & it is a pity that this great little breed doesn’t have more show followers. Some of the exhibits need a bit more ring training & to learn to move up & down in a more disciplined manner. MPD (1) 1 Johnston’s Oregill Hot Pursuit, a very pleasing youngster who was really good in outline. Typical in head & ears. Good eye & shown in really good coat for his age. Moved pretty well in front & behind, but was not yet all that confident in the ring which didn’t help his overall appearance at times. Promising youngster who just needs a bit more experience & confidence. PD (3) 1 Cartwright’s Cadenhong Midnite Comet, not a small dog for his age, could be more balanced in skull but good strength of muzzle. Good in overall outline. Moved out very well but his coat could be better. This one showed really well & much better than 2 Connell’s Sonorra Fiery Jack, scored well for type & good in outline with good hindquarters & correct typical head, but just wouldn’t show properly or move up & down sensibly which was a pity. Placed him over 3 which sadly had scarcely any body coat today & suffered as a result; 3 Stone’s Ellenside Almost Legal JD (1) 1 E Almost Legal, as mentioned above suffered because of lack of coat quantity & texture. Moved well & good enough in head & expression & presented a good body outline. Could be better in feet, but his coat set him back on the day. PGD (1) 1 De Munter-Uiterwijk’s Kingfisher Van Foliny, very pleasing in head & outline & needs to settle better when moving. Very typical in head with correct eye, good skull, good neck & body proportions & good outline. Enough bone & good feet. Moved out well & good in rib. LD (2) 1 Wilkinson & Clark’s Brindlefield Mr Bojangles, smaller dog than 2 & more mature. Very pleasing in outline & proportions. Excellent in head & expression, not overdone in any way & good in shoulder. Enough bone, good compact body, good tailset & good in hindquarters; 2 Johnston’s Louieville Making Waves, not in the best of coats & needs time to settle. He has a good deal of size. Good neck & outline, correct tailset & hindquarters, Good bone. Needs time to finish & tighten up in front. OD (4) 1 Barker, Fraser & Sacco’s Am Ch Larkspur Save Me A Spot, good in head, eye & strength of muzzle, good in neck & topline. Particularly good in body coat but presented differently in leg furnishings. Very compact in body & correct proportions & size. Could be better in shoulder. Good loin & correct rib. CC; 2 Drysdale’s Aust Ch Louieville Red Sky, a very typy dog which was spoilt for me today in being lacking in coat on body & tail. This neither helped his tail appearance nor did it made him look as short in back as 1. Otherwise he had a very pleasing balanced head & typical expression. He moved our really well & looked excellent in feet & pasterns. RCC; 3 Evans & Cartwright’s Cadenhong’s Celtic Druid. MPB (1) A. PB (1) 1 De Munter-Uiterwijk’s Maggie May Van Foliny Home, arrived late in the ring but was worth waiting for. Very good in head, though didn’t always carry her ears well. Good neck & holds topline well on the move. Shown in really good coat. Good feet & enough bone. Moved out well in front & behind but she doesn’t always stand up & make the most of herself or her topline when at rest. Very typy & went on to win BP. JB (3) 1 Burgoine’s Ralphina Follow The Rainbow to Jelliroll, an easy winner here with more maturity & finish than 2. Pleasing in general outline. Good shoulder, could be better in feet & pasterns, but excellent body outline, good loin & underline, moved well behind. Could do with a bit more coat; 2 Leadbeater & Kerrigan’s Leadstaffs Pyjamerama, behaved better than 3 which just would not move properly, but this one needs to settle for confidence & needs time to finish off in presentation. OK in head & ears & good in topline when she stands up & pays attention; 3 Gallett Cadenhong's Celtic Dreamer. PGB (1) 1 Whitehead’s Stanstead Red Devil, OK in neck & outline, good topline but coat far from being at its best & not showing the right texture. Very pleasing in head, eye & foreface. Good bone & correct rib. Moved out a bit better behind than in front. LB (1) 1 Whitehead & Connell’s Stanstead Dita Von Teese, very pleasing in outline & very typy. Excellent in presentation with a really good harsh coat & enough of it. Pleasing in head & neck. Good tailset but could be just a shade better in loin. Enough stifle without being overdone there. Good pasterns & good bone & feet. OB (4) 1 Ryan’s Kebulak Smoke And Mirrors, a quality bitch with a pleasing head & expression with good eye & just the right head & skull proportions with a correct muzzle. Good outline & topline, scored over 2 in stifle. Very pleasing for bone. Good shoulder & moved well behind. Has a good deal of type & quality but needs a shade more ring discipline. Went on to win CC & BOB; 2 Greenway’s Rayfos Gold Shadow, another with a really good head & typical expression. OK in ears, good compact shape & outline with a good neck & topline & enough bone. Didn’t stride out quite as well as the winner, but moved precisely all the same. Good feet. RCC; 3 Potts’ Dutch Ch Kebulak Killer Heels. RONNIE IRVING |
