NORFOLK JUDGE CRUFTS 20

It was an honour to judge my 2 favourite breeds at this prestigious show. I would like to thank the committee for inviting me, my stewards for their help and the exhibitors who accepted my decisions in their usual sporting manner. One thing that has struck me for some time is the size of Norfolk Terriers' ears which are becoming very large. It appears that judges, breeders and exhibitors are ignoring the breed standard with regard to this. According to our breed standard Norfolk's ears should be medium in size. Some ears are not just too long but too wide at the base and the flaps are too thick, they look as if they belong to a much larger breed. Large ears completely spoil the Norfolk expression, please think about this when you consider where to mate your bitches in the future and be true to yourself about their and any potential sires faults and virtues.

Veteran dog - 0

Puppy dog - 2/0

1st Mrs Mullen & McFadden Watercroft Pop Muzik at Tomodan. 2 very smart puppies in this class. 1 in good coat, moved and showed well pleasing head and expression neat ears showing promise. Could have better lay of shoulder.

2nd Powell's Watercroft Brown Boots. Another with good head proportions, harsh coat, moved out well and showed with confidence.

Junior dog 2/1

1st Gee's Watercroft Calling Card, very typey young male. Excellent coat and condition, strong masculine head with super expression, dark eye. Excels in neck and shoulder level top line well set straight tail, good bone, good reach in front but a little unsteady in his rear movement.

Post grad dog 11/3

1st Simpson's Brickin Wish Me Luck at Megalex. Cobby young red dog. Very harsh coat in good order. Excellent stop and width of skull could have more strength in muzzle. Good bite. Level top line held on the move. At one with his handler and put in a super performance to win this class.

2nd Philip's Nordalset Festivities. Another sturdy young red dog. Not in as good a coat as 1. Liked his head and keen expression. Good bite. Short in the back and low to ground. Moved with purpose.

Limit dog 8/1

1st Thompson-Morgan's Belleville Crumble Topping. Eye catching red male, up to size. Good bone, strong masculine head, good bite. In fabulous coat and condition, could have more reach of neck and better lay of shoulder. Best mover in the class

2nd Walshe's Beritas The Names Bond. Very similar type to 1. Strong head and excellent expression. Not in as good coat as 1 nor as good a mover. A very honest type. Showed himself to advantage.

Open dog 9/1

1st Thompson-Morgans Ch Belleville Major Key. Striking male who commands attention. Another from this kennel in excellent form. Head ok, a little flat in skull could have a shorter muzzle, good bite. Good in neck and shoulder, short back, excellent bone and feet. Moved with style never stopped showing. DCC

2nd Salminen & Van Zantvoort Foosa's Flipflop FIJW' 18 Very typey red male. Fabulous head and expression, small dark eye and neat ears. Ok in neck and shoulder, low to ground, good bone, short back and perfect short straight tail. Exuberant mover and showman pushed 1 hard. Lost out to 1 on presentation. RCC

Good Citizens dog 1/0

1st Brown's Dajean Dotty's Digger. What an ambassador for the breed this boy is as he proudly trots around beside his owner. Short, cobby and smart.

Veteran bitch 4/0

1st Hurrions's Ch Valentines Cherry Crumble. 12 years young, striding round the ring enjoying every moment. Loved her attitude, demanded to win this class, has the cleanest of teeth, a credit to her owner. BV

2nd Smith's Ch Javidel Definitely Maybe 8 year old black and tan also in good order. Harsh coat not the pizazz of 1. But put in a good performance.

Puppy bitch 6/1

1st Tate's From Dash Mountain Farm's High Falue Jaeva A cracking black & tan puppy. Loved her head and expression, neat ears, mischievous dark eyes. Correct size, short back, excellent tail and set. Moved well has a beautiful harsh coat, not always totally confident but her handler guided her through to win this strong class.

2nd Gee's Watercroft Stolen Moment. Very showy confident young lady. different type to one, pleasing head, could have stronger muzzle. dark eyes. good length of neck, short back, a little up on leg at the moment, in excellent coat but looked a little unbalanced as she had no ruff. Good front movement but a little erratic behind.

Junior bitch 5/2

Not as strong a class as the previous one.

1st Atkinson's Moortop Sweet Design. Super type, low to ground. Good head proportions but could have more fill under her eye. Fabulous harsh coat in excellent trim. Moved ok but could be a little more positive. Has a fantastic straight tail.

2nd Gee's Watercroft Band of Gold. A lot to like about this puppy, nicely balanced neat all through. Feminine head and expression, in great coat and condition but not moving soundly behind today.

Post grad bitch 6/2

Open bitch 4/0

1st Gee's Ch Watercroft Pink Fizz. Star of the day for me. Such a lovely bitch to go over, everything in the right place. Not only a cracking norfolk she is full of charm and has so much attitude and ring presence. In fabulous coat and condition put in a first class performance to win CC and BOB.

2nd Thompson-Morgans Belleville In The Black, stylish black and tan, different type to one, not as cobby. Excels in neck and shoulder, short back. In excellent coat super showgirl.

Good citizens bitch 1/0

1st Macartney's Ivrig First Bit of Joy very aptly named she was full of herself. Very attractive head, cobby body level top line, moved confidently round the ring maybe a little over enthusiastic at times but she was clearly enjoying herself.
