NORWICH JUDGE CRUFTS 19

Judging Norwich Terriers at Crufts was a real honour and I was happy that we were first in the ring and all the dogs were fresh. I would like to thank Bill and Trish Gray who were my stewards and did such a good job with keeping the paper work in order and organising the ring. I was lucky to have some top quality Norwich under me, that gave me some tough decisions. However I felt that some had very poor hindquarters, lacking angulation and no drive. Some were very fine in bone, that is so wrong for this breed.

VD, 2, 0 abs

1. Barge & Hardwicke’s Baktwins Sunseeker. Very sprightly for nearly 11 years old. Attractive head of good type, short back. Good mouth for a dog of this age.

2. Nutkins’ Tebrun Favour. Over 7 years old and in good coat. Lacking depth of body compared to 1, and moving close behind.

PD 3, 0 abs

1. Armstrong & Lawrence’s Ragus Sweet Bay. A sound young man who held himself well and moved soundly with a level topline. Strong head with correct proportions, excellent bite, good layback of shoulder. To be critical he could be a little shorter in the back. However a very attractive puppy, BP

2. Crawley’s Ragus Time of My Life. Very typy Norwich, cobby, good depth of body and short in back. Not so well laid in shoulder as 1, and tail rather tightly curled. Not the freedom of movement of 1.

3. Davies & Tinsley’s Morzi Cousin Vinny

JD 2, 0 abs

As these 2 entered the ring, they shouted quality and both came in proudly.

1. Crawley’s Ragus The Jumping Jack. Very well balanced and very sound. Super confident as he motored round the ring and full of personality. Well proportioned head with good skull and strong muzzle and good bite. Well laid in shoulder and true in front. Hocks well let down and hindquarters well muscled. I am sure he still has a little maturing to do, but his overall quality and performance secured him the CC and BOB.

2. Tate’s Jaeva Pay the Piper. A lovely black and tan who carried himself so well. Very strong behind but sometimes a little unsettled in front, which separated him from the class winner. Very masculine head with excellent expression, good bite and short back, one of the best tails of the day, really well carried. Super temperament, nothing robotic about this young man. RCC

PGD 4, 0 abs

1. Ackling & Dingle’s Kreatin Extra Factor. Won this class comfortably. Smart dog that was very well put together and in great coat and condition. Liked his bone and substance, strong head with good bite. Moved and showed well for his handler.

2. Crozier’s Misma of Brook Hall. Neat dog who showed well with a good outline. Good bite and pleasing head. Could be stronger behind.

3. Webster’s Belleville Striking Effect

LD 3, 0 abs

1. Smith’s Javidel Walk in the Park. A very attractive dog in really good coat and condition. He showed very well. Strong head and deep in body, good run in of shoulder and level topline on the move. A little straight behind which was noticeable as he moved away in the challenge.

2. Crozier’s Sea Sky. Short backed black and tan with pleasing head. Again high in hock that weakened hind movement. Well trimmed and in good condition.

3. Kell & Crawley’s Ragus All Guns Firing for Amicaro.

OD 4, 0 abs

1. Crawley, Oddie & Dyer’s Ch Ragus Scouts Honour. Well bodied dog of good substance and deep in chest, short back and good size. Moved soundly and good hindquarters with correct angulation. A contender in the challenge.

2. Hitchen’s Ch Kreatin Extra Mile. Masculine dog in very good coat and condition. Pleasing head and good bite. Sufficient neck and strong body. Generally well put together and pulled out all the stops for his handler, showing and moving well.

3. Lazenby’s Tinkave I’m the Man

GCD 2, 0 abs.

1. Hayes’ Ragus Fabulous Clown SHCM. Moved soundly and showed well. He was doing his best for his handler

2. Nutkins’ Tebrun Favour

VB 3, 0 abs

1. Armstrong & Lawrance’s Elantiz Rambling Rosie SHCM 9 years old and moved like a dream, still very fresh. Well presented coat and in great condition. Tail held very well and fairly straight. BV

2. Smith’s Ch Ragus Takes the Biscuit JW. Good type 8 years old and showing well. Dips a little behind the shoulder now.

3. Armstrong & Lawrance’s Elantiz Primrose Petal ShCM

PB 3, 0 abs

1. Davies & Tinsley’s Morzi Hello Dolly. Just a year and won this class on the move with her reach and drive. She is still raw and could do with a bit more body, however she is well put together and showed well.

2. Hardwicke’s Mistress of Magic. A difficult choice here between 1 and 2. This puppy was full of type and more forward in maturity than 1. Short backed and already deep in body with good head. Good coat texture on this b/t but would benefit from some old coat removing. In the final move round she lost out on reach and drive.

3. Nutkins’ Norowic Lady of Lorien

JB 5, 0 abs

1. Crawley’s Ragus Loving Spoonful. An attractive girl who makes the most of herself and presents a lovely outline standing, showing strong hindquarters. Typical head with super expression. She moved well and her great coat and condition won her the class.

2. Haynes’ Alantro Step into my Shadow. A neat bitch that moved and showed very well. I have noted that she had a really good tail. To be critical she could do with a stronger head and in very short coat today.

3. Hayes’ Ragus Seven Jumps

PGB 3, 1 abs

1. Watkins’ Alantro Step to It. Showing well for her handler, strong head, good bone and perhaps a little too much substance!. Very good tail. Animated on the move but paddling a little in front.

2. Kruglak’s Zefirka V Shokolasde. This bitch was well schooled and responded well for her handler. Unfortunately in today’s company she lost out in the other classes where she was entered. She lacks bone and is too fine. Hind movement was lacking strength and drive.

LB. 8, 3 abs

1. Stevenson’s Brickin Chase a Rainbow. Cheeky, very nicely made bitch. Strong head with good proportions and strong muzzle and good bite. Short back and strong hindquarters that she used to advantage on the move. RCC

2. Batey’s Ragus Burning Question. Pleasing head, with straight front and short back. Good coat and condition. Not as strong behind as 1.

3. Haynes’ Alantro First Steps

OB. 3, 1 abs.

1. Crawley and Jones’ Ragus Silk Moth. A mature girl with a super outlne standing and moving. Great coat and condition, colour a clear red. She is big enough but I couldn’t deny her excellent construction, lovely neck and shoulder, Well off for bone and super hindquarters, well let down in hock and moved so soundly. BCC

2. Hitchen & Lumpkin’s Ch Kreatin Extra Treat. A quality bitch and a worthy champion. Good head and with her wheaten coat, and dark eye and black pigment, she appeared as though wearing eyeliner. She presents a good outline and level topline. She moved with stretch in front but not as strong as 1 in hind movement.

GCDS 3 , 0 abs

1. Dent’s Fizzella Helin’s Angel. Short backed black and tan with excellent tail. Showed very well

2. Hayes’ Ragus Seven Jumps. Animated shower, good tail and well balanced. Still to mature in body
