North of England Airedale Terrier Club
Championship Show October 19th 2014

Thankyou to the Officers and Committee for their invitation to judge this lovely, well run show. Also thank you to the exhibitors for the excellent entry and their sportsmanship. It is always quite refreshing to judge a breed that one doesn’t own and show and I thoroughly enjoyed the day.
I found all dogs to be sound with good mouths and excellent temperaments.

Minor Puppy Dog (3)

1st. Lee’s “Stargus Black Sabre” – striking youngster, nice make and shape with excellent bone and substance, good coat and condition. Lovely clean head, flat skull with strong foreface, dark eye, well placed ears giving alert expression. Great reach of neck and shoulder placement, good spring of rib, close coupled, strong quarters, and good set on. All dog, moved true. BPIS.

2nd. Collins “Son of Adventurer” – just 6 months and needs to firm up all round but has nice head proportions, good bone, clean front, good set on and carriage. Movement should settle as he matures and gains confidence.

3rd. Acton’s “Jantaradon Royal George”.

Puppy Dog (3)

1st. Callon/Callon-Winn’s “Sonorra Christmas Cracker from Russtam”. Very nice type, good head, dark eye, well set ears giving good expression. Good reach of neck, super front, excellent topline, set on and quarters, good coat and presentation, moved with animation, maturity should suit him well.

2nd. Jackson & Swash’ “Jokyl the Party Line” very nice well matured youngster, lovely balance throughout, nice size, good bone, unfortunately lacked spark today which affected his movement.

3rd. Johnston’s “Nedella Desert Flame”.

Junior Dog (2, 1 abs)

1st. Hampton & Hall’s “Muliebrity Symphony” strong in skull and foreface, nice straight front, good bone, tight feet, well let down hocks. Needs to drop in chest as he looks a little long cast but still a puppy and time is on his side.

Post Graduate Dog (3, 1abs)

1st. Lee’s “Autograph Warrior for Stargus” Promising youngster, still a little immature but everything is in place from his excellent head proportions to his strong cobby outline. Small dark eye, true expression, lovely neck and topline, excellent coat and presentation. Needs to settle in front movement but did enough to take RCC.

2nd. Collins’ “Colldale the Hero” Preferred the headpiece and overall balance of winner. Nice eye and ear placement, strong muzzle, good length of neck, good coat and presentation.

Limit Dog (3, 1abs)

1st. Vickers’ “Catch Me if You Can at Jodean” This dog has all the essentials to be a champion but just not enough of him for me. Liked his compact cobbyness, lovely head and ears, great expression, super front, good bone, excellent quarters and bend of stifle with well turned hocks. Moved and showed sound and steady, pushed hard for RCC.

2nd. Morris’ “Nedella Gambling Man”. Bigger, rangier dog, lovely through the neck and shoulder, excellent front, tailset and carriage, moved a little loose in front.

Open Dog (3, 1abs)

1st. Hacker & Jenkins’ “Sherifs Red Beret”. Biggish masculine dog, very nicely put together with good neck and shoulder, good topline, tail set and carriage. A little strong in back skull and across the front. Moved well.

2nd. Toulson’s “Toulsyork Fisty Filbert”. Finer type, good head and expression, very nice front, good legs and feet, moved OK, preferred shoulder placement and topline of winner.

Veteran Dog (1)

1st. Jackson & Swash’ “Ch. Jokyl Captain Scarlett”. Coming up to 9, he still commands the ring. Beautifully proportioned, lovely size, compact and cobby. Excelled in head and expression. Pleased to award him yet another CC.

Minor Puppy Bitch (3)

1st. Collins’ “Colldale Adventuress Girl”. Promising pup, nice size for age, clean skull, feminine expression, using ears well. Compact in body lovely topline and tail set, decent coat just coming through. Moved well.

2nd. Shurvington’s “Stargus Black Orchid at Shurcon” well grown youngster in lovely coat and condition. Nice head and ear placement, would prefer a smaller eye. Great set on, well let down hocks, moved well behind but seemed tied in elbow causing untidy front movement.

3rd. Acton’s “Jantaradon Royal Sovereign.

Puppy Bitch (1)

1st. Morris’ “Nedella Flame Opal”. Liked this youngster a lot, hope she’s finished growing and settles down to the job in hand. Lovely overall balance, well used ears, strong muzzle, dark eye, perhaps a bit more length in back skull would enhance. Great coat presented in good condition, nice spring of rib, good set on and quarters, moved well when settled.

Junior Bitch (5)

1st. Toulson’s “Toulsyork Ha Ha Hope” Liked her make and shape, short coupled with lovely flow through her shoulders, excellent front, topline and tailset. Ears good when she uses them but can throw them back spoiling her otherwise good head properties. Good coat, well presented, moved well both ways.

2nd. Vickers’ “Saredon Barley Wine at Eskwyre”. Excelled in head and expression, small dark eye, nicely placed ears used to advantage. Looked a little fine through the neck spoiling her outline, still very young, muscle and time should change the picture. Moved OK both ways, well presented and handled.

3rd. Lee’s “Autograph Seeker for Stargus”.

Post Graduate Bitch (5)

1st. Moules’ “Doraemi Kiki Dee”. Nice head proportions, good eye, ears could use a little more lift, nice topline and angulation, good bone, ample bend of stifle and low hocks giving her good propulsion in hind action. Good jacket and presentation.

2nd. Miller’s “Lakeaire Many Mauve”. Clean head, ears OK when used, little round in eye. Nice front, good set on, not as close coupled as winner, moved OK both ways.

3rd. Collins’ “Beacytan Best Seller of Colldale”.

Limit Bitch (6, 1abs)

1st. Turner’s “Crillee Cool Scarlet” Lovely type, elegant with good bone and not overdone in any way. Feminine head and expression, clean balanced skull, nicely placed ears used to advantage. Nice length of neck into well laid shoulders, good spring of rib, god set on and carriage. Well let down hocks giving good propulsion from behind – to be critical she can drive too hard and affect her front action. Great coat and condition, tight feet, on her toes all the time to take CC and BIS.

2nd. Ablard’s “Saredon First Alexandria”. Smaller type, nice head balance and clean skull, little bold in eye. Decent neck and shoulder, good spring of rib, touch long in loin, well made quarters, moved OK both ways.

3rd. Keay’s “Jaymitch Jaunty Panachon”

Open Bitch (4, 1abs)

1st. Turner’s “Ch. Crillee Carry on Baby” Another lovely type and a worthy champion, carrying many of the same attributes to the winner of the previous class, not surprising as she is from the same kennel and by the same sire. For me not as elegant through the neck and shoulder to the CC winner and today was not as sharp and on her toes. However I was pleased to award her the RCC.

2nd. Jackson & Swash’ “Jokyl Simply Red”. Bigger, heavier type but lovely balance all through, nice front, good set on and carriage, moved well.

3rd. “Muliebrity Oceana.
