PARSON RUSSELL JUDGE BIRMINGHAM NATIONAL 18

Thanks to the exhibitors for the sporting way that they accepted and applauded the winners and thanks to my two very efficient stewards. The entry of 39 from 37 dogs was not huge but not much below the average for a Friday. I was pleased generally with heads, but some fronts and hindquarters need attention. There were rather too many with thin skins. I thought that in this occasion size, by and large, was pretty good.

MPD (4,1)

1. Bowden's Paringer Knock on Wood in Chellowside, pleasing youngster with enough breadth of skull. Good neck and topline, and correct tailset. Well muscled behind and moved reasonably well. Enough bone for age. Not small. Good coat but could be thicker in skin.

2. Biglands' Heythrop Toddhunter, a very pleasing puppy with a god head, correct eye, excellent in front with good bone and correct thick skin. And OK in coat but just a bit overawed by the occasion and not putting all in today.

3. Taylors Foxthorn Pewac.

PD (2)

1. Biglands' Heythrop Task Master, not showing as well as you'd prefer but very good in head and skull, good ears of correct size. Good neck and shoulder correct rib not oversprung. Enough coat, Moved well behind and tail we set on and carried. Good compact feet.

2. Tinegate's Milvinae All Black, OK in skull just a shade long in body and could be shorter in loin and thicker in skin. Good tight feet and enough bone. Moved well behind better there than in front. Good in rib.

JD (4, 1)

1. Smith & Moon's Heythrop Trickshot for Alncroft, a very pleasing youngster still a puppy very good for size and proportions. Excellent head with a good strong muzzle and breadth of skull with a good eye and expression. Good neck, topline and tailset. Good bone and moved well and smartly. Went on win Res DCC and Best Puppy.

2. Hughes' Jappatin Statesman of Ruffntuff (IKC), good in head with not too much stop, good strong muzzle. Good topline and tailset. Not quite the skin of 1 and not so easy to span. Moved out well behind and scored in movement and body substance over 3.

3. Hooley's Hoolmark Johnny Guitar.

PGD (2)

1. Biglands' Heythrop Taggert, good for size and shown in very hard and muscular condition. Excellent muscle behind. Scored in front over 2 and was spannable. Good tail and tail set. Neat ears and well proportioned in body.

2. Aspell's Logierait Loki, strong headed dog with enough breadth of skull. Good muzzle. Tail could be carried better. Good clean neck and strong backline. Moved well behind but not so positive in front.

LD (1)

1. Sturdy's Alncroft Imperial, correct in skull and OK in neck. Good topline. Good rib not oversprung and moved well behind. Tends to short step a bit in front and could be tidier in front movement generally. Enough bone and OK in tail. Good ear. Could be stronger in jaw.

OD (4)

1. Roberts & Young's Ch Chadbrook Roux, very good for size and with an excellent head and typical expression with good eye shape. Good clean neck and correct strong topline. Good coat and spannable. 1. Dayman's Pacolito Phinal Edition, good head with enough strength of muzzle. Could be smaller in ears. Good neck and correct compact feet. Enough bone and good shoulder. OK for coat and skin. 2. Newport's Digaden Runner Bean, pleasing in neck and topline and correct spring of rib not overdone. Moved well behind but needs just a bit more second thigh behind and more muscle there.

3. Rimmer's Ir Ch Kylini Mona Lisa JW Sh.CM.

VB (1, 0)

1 Kannangara's Sherosco Christmas Rose, a nine year old of good size but who could have a bit more strength of foreface and was not moving to best advantage but good in topline and had good muscle behind. Was easy to span and good in coat. Best Veteran.
