PARSON RUSSELL JUDGE BOURNEMOUTH 24

My thanks to the Secretary and Committee for their kind invitation to judge, and to my very efficient Steward. It was a baking hot day and the traffic was exceptionally bad too, even early in the morning. The rings were partially covered and this helped to give a little much needed shade. There were, not surprisingly, quite a number of absentees who had decided it was just too hot. Some of the exhibits were definitely feeling under par and one or two disappointed by not giving of their best. My bugbear in general, is that we are seeing too many dogs with short, flat backs and a high tailset; some also lack the correct forechest and front angulation. The outline should be balanced there is an issue in the breed with weak rear quarters. This is the power house, the front is for steering. We are runnning the risk of losing vital breed characteristics and turning these dogs into a generic type of terrier. Breeders please look at the standard and be critical with your dogs. Fortunately these comments did not apply to many of the exhibits before me on the day

PD (1)

1 Kirkbys Mindlen Kuba - A very smart young dog with a great future ahead. Tri, broken coated with a dense double coat and thick pelt. Meets the standard well. Stood alone but a very nice example of the breed. BPD & BP

PGD (1)

1 Biglands Heythrop Tamar Another tri coloured dog with double broken coat. Good bone, pleasing head and earset, lovely reach of neck. Correct topline and although still immature is starting to fill his frame. Produced in great condition and handled very well. RBD

LD (4,2)

1 Biglands Heythrop Toptag Tri coloured, dog with good smooth coat, correct rise over the loin and good tailset. Pleasing head, dark eye and nice earset. Would prefer just a little more bone. Showed OK

2 Mitchells Mindlen Mahican In Chellowside A Tri coloured male with lightly broken coat. Good for bone. Nice head with good earset. Expertly handled

OD (3,1)

1 Smiths Alncroft Hijack Wite and tan, with dense double coat and pelt. Easy to span, sound as a pound. Very pleasing young male who conforms to the standard and moves as one would expect, beautifully handled and showing no sign of fatigue in the heat BD and BOB

2 OConners Ir Ch Woodloch Ikenna Of Stonemartin Ir J Ch A nice type and a dog I have seen before and admired. Just not happy today and carrying a lot of coat which may have been part of the reason for his distracted behaviour.

VD (1)

1 Blair & Hadley Ch Cleeve Hill Kasper Pure white male who was definitely not giving of his best today. He played up his patient handler and was carrying just a little too much weight to be comfortable in the heat. He is now an older boy but still has plenty of years left in him BVD

PB (1)

1 Mitchell & Mitchell E Elayna Unstoppable Da Beira Alta In Vixenview 8 month old puppy who has time on her side. Good bone, coat and headpiece. Easy to span and expertly handled

PGB (2)

1 Hughes Ruffntuff Tears Of Joy 20 months white and tan female, dense broken/rough coat. Moved out soundly but not liking the heat. Could do with dropping a little weight but spanned easily. Meets the standard well and Im sure will have a successful future ahead.

2 Levitts Proveits White Sally White. Broken but a little out of coat. Easy to span but needed to settle. She gave her handler a hard time today.

LB (4,1)

1 Biglands Heythrop Tangletop A neat, feminine 5 year old tri coloured female. A very pretty bitch. Good coat, easy to span and meets the standard. Slightly lack lustre due to the heat which was building through the morning. Beautifully presented. RBB

2 Andersons Drailam Foxglove A pleasing bitch who was a little unsure today but settled eventually. Good outline with correct front assembly and tailset.

3 Kirkbys Mindlen Miami

OB (3,1)

1 Smiths Ch Alncroft Foxtrot White and tan such a feminine female. So much to like about her she is a real credit to her breeders. Presentation and handling were superb. She showed like a trooper despite the heat BB 2 Biglands Heythrop

2 Topsyturvey Another lovely tri coloured female from this breeder who is so consistent. Meets the standard very well. Just not moving quite as positively in the heat.

VB (1)

1 Biglands Heythrop Tiffin Still showing that at over 10 years of age she can give some of the others a run for their money. Moved out positively BV
