PARSON RUSSELL EAST OF ENGLAND 22 Judge: Mr Matt Smith Thank you to the society for the invitation to judge at this years championship show, sadly two years later than originally planned due to the pandemic. I enjoyed the appointment and was very pleased with my principal winners. Bitches had a greater depth of quality today and several were unlucky not to have received higher honours. 1 Johnston’s Foxfur Magician, promising young dog of lovely size and good substance. Correct strong masculine head without being overdone, good size ear. Good reach of neck leading into one of the better shoulders in the dog entry. In good coat. Easily spanned, good ribbing. Correct width in front, good topline with slight rise over the loin and a well set and carried tail. Moved well in profile, helping him to win the RDCC. 2 Dixon & Aspell’s Scapegrace Echo, another nice youngster, not quite as mature as the class winner. Strong head, good neck and reasonable shoulder. Good hind angulation, moved ok, should tighten up with age. 1 Dixon & Aspell’s Scapegrace Echo 1 Hobson’s Partridgedale Flynn, up to size youngster but a lot to like and he pushed hard for higher honours. Cracking head that is strong and masculine without being oversized and coarse. Good length of neck, ok in shoulder. Correct width in front with straight legs and lovely tight feet. Turned out in excellent coat, fit and hard condition. 2 Casson’s Mindlen Hendricks, there was very little to choose between these two dogs, similar in size and shape. Again in good coat, moved well when settled. 1 Brown’s Afinlea Pale Tussock, excellent size, ok in head, would prefer a little more neck, reasonable shoulder and pleasing return of upper arm. Standing on good feet. Good topline and comfortably spanned. Moved well in profile and coming towards. 1 Walker’s Digaden Top Form, good size tricolour. Young dog in ‘top form’ today, of good substance but not overdone and moderate all through. Pleasing head with correct ears and neat dark eyes with good expression. Correct length of neck, reasonable shoulder, comfortably spanned, good topline, correct tailset. Good hind quarters giving him enough drive, standing on good feet. In excellent coat and has a good pelt. Moves well all ways, pleased to award him the DCC which I was later told gave him his well deserved crown. 2 Pell’s Hoolmark Ringo Starr at Olliebark, tidy sized dog with a striking head. Narrow in front with good straight legs and tight fitting elbows, good return of upperarm. Comfortably spanned, good topline with correct rise over the loin. 3 Biggs’ Malenkhai He’s Cool and Ice 1 McCluskey Chadbrook Sunfire, quality head with a good eye, neat ears and strong jaw. Good length of neck, ok for shoulder and upperarm angulation which balances with his rear. Can look a touch heavy but is comfortably spanned and is a fit well muscled dog. Won this class on his movement, particularly in profile. 2 Manson’s Vixenview Knightbridge, liked him for his size, strong and masculine but not too much of him. Well made in front, comfortably spanned, correct topline with good tailset and carriage. Moved with good drive. 3 Newport’s Ch Cudweed’s Master of The Hounds 1 Broadberry’s Ch Foxthorn Huron at Ratscallion, good sized dog who seemed to be enjoying his day out, good condition for his age. Moved well all ways. Nice head, little stuffy in neck. Comfortably spanned, well ribbed back, good topline, showed himself well BV. 2 Smith’s Digden Top Hat and Tails, up to size dog but still spannable. Good neck and shoulder and well balanced. Turned out in excellent coat and condition. Moved soundly and well handled to show him at his best. 1 Hall’s Frithgarth Stone Meadow, reasonable size, spannable. Moderate length of neck into fair shoulder, with balanced angulation. Showed himself well. BSB. 1 Evans & Barnes’ Bellvalley’s Kissed By Fire, beautiful puppy who I look forward to seeing when she is fully mature. Feminine head with good eye, lovely neck flowing into a good shoulder with enough return of upperarm. Straight legs, correct width apart, firm pasterns standing on good feet. Comfortably spanned with correct topline and tailset. Rear angulation correctly balanced with front, moved well. Showed her quality to beat the RDCC winner for BP. I don’t think it will be long before she gets higher honours. 2 Young’s Chadbrook Chance’s Legacy, in profile she is another out of the top drawer, just slightly stronger built all through. Moderate and balanced and was unlucky to meet 1 today. Moved well. 3 Bigland’s Heythrop Taranna 1 Newstead’s Tophead Saffron, another youngster of promise, a lot to like and she really kept drawing my eye in the challenge, but there were not enough green cards to go around. Lovely feminine head and keen expression, good neck into well laid shoulder with good upperarm. Good rear, moved with good reach and drive, occasionally loses her topline when standing, but it is correct when moving. 2 Smith’s Digaden Top Notch, lovely size with good bone, excellent pelt and coat, in good condition. Feminine head, good ear, good through body and nicely balanced. 3 Young’s Chadbrook Little Target. 1 Buckley’s Gonetoground High’n Mighty, at first look this bitch didn’t catch my eye as much as some, and for me is on the taller side. However she is so well made with beautiful balance and is a true Parson, all in moderation. Feminine head of good wedge shape with enough strength, lovely neck flowing into correctly laid shoulder and good upperarm. Lovely ribbing, so comfortably spanned, excellent topline with correct rise over the loin and good tailset. Well made rear, matching her front angulation. Moves with excellent reach and drive. Handled to her advantage. It was her movement, proving that she is constructed correctly, that meant she couldn’t be denied the BCC & BOB. 2 Hughes’ Ruffntuff Rush of Love, lovely sized bitch with good neck and shoulder, well ribbed back. A little deep in chest for me, but still spannable. Standing on good legs and feet, moves well all ways. 3 Bigland’s Heythrop Tangletop. This was a lovely class with all exhibits of good quality, the first three in particular are very nice bitches that could easily change places on another day. 1 Roberts & Murray’s Mindlen Micmac at Heythrop, lovely sized bitch with an eye catching head of correct proportions, good ear and eye. Good neck, good in shoulder. Front angles balanced with rear. Correctly proportioned, standing on good feet. Not in the best coat today. Sound mover with good reach and drive RBCC. 2 Bigland’s Heythrop Topseyturvey, another not in the best of coats today, but she is another quality bitch of excellent size. Easily spanned, pretty head and good neck. Lovely tight feet, stands herself well. Moved with good drive on 3 Newstead’s Muhlross Magic Diamond, another quality bitch, unlucky not to be placed higher on the day. Another very strong class with some close decisions. 1 McCluskey’s Chadbrook Elka, this bitch won this strong class on her size and movement. Beautiful head with lovely expression., good neck, neat in front, standing on good legs and feet. In good coat and easily spanned. Everything in moderation and very well balanced. She never stopped showing and was excellently handled. Close up in the challenge. 2 Roberts & Murray’s Ch Mindlen Moccasin, bigger bitch all through but within the standard. Strong but still feminine head with correct eye and ear, good neck, well made in front. Standing on good legs and feet. Well balanced, one of the better movers coming and going on the day. Can see why she is a champion. 3 Dayman & Cole’s Ch Pacolito Phinal Edition 1 Collis’ Riplington Dream Image, really nice sized bitch, comfortably spanned . Pretty head with good neck, plenty of return of upperarm, not quite matching her shoulder. Correct economical movement in profile. 2 Shelton’s Boultmoor True Delight, this bitch was in really good condition for her age, another sound mover. Of correct balance, reasonable size, good weatherproof jacket. 1 Dixon & Aspell’s Riosset Rip Roaring at Scapegrace, smooth coated bitch of good size, comfortably spanned. Decent head, plenty of neck, narrow in front, standing on good feet. Moved ok when settled.
