PARSON RUSSELL JUDGE LEEDS 15

Parson Russell Terriers

Thank you exhibitors for entering at Leeds, I hope that you enjoyed your day as much as I did. Before commenting on individual dogs a few general observations; the first word of the Breed Standard is ‘workmanlike’ for me this is an important point, with it comes breed type & condition. Dogs should be neither too fat nor too thin & should show some muscletone, they should have a good protective coat, stand on good firm strong feet & have a loose thick pelt. Combine these things with a free easy stride that covers plenty of ground, & in my opinion you are heading towards a workmanlike terrier of the type that goes ground. The Breed Standard then lays down the finer points of the Breed & we all interpret the Standard slightly differently, I do not believe in fault judging & prefer to judge the dog as a whole taking into account its virtues & weighing them against the virtues of other exhibits.

Two other most important words in the Standard are ‘bold & friendly’, perhaps a few puppies were a little over friendly but then this had to be forgiven in my opinion as it is important that they enjoy our hobby with us. Breed type was quite varied as was size, in some cases one point may not have been totally to my liking but I forgave when considering against the opposition & placed dogs accordingly.

PD (4,1a)

1 Broadberry’s Foxthorn Huron at Ratscallion, well balanced tri dog, good head, ears & eyes, correct neck, lay of shoulder & return of upper arm, good pelt & to span, correct topline & tailset, well developed quarters, moved well with a free easy stride. BPD;

2 Young’s Chadbrook Trooper, strongly made smooth tri dog, would prefer just a little more stop to complete the picture of his head, good reach of neck & forequarters, correct pelt & to span, strong very well-muscled quarters, moved well when settled;

3 Aspell & Dixon’s Logierait Loki.

JD (2,1)

1 Dooner’s Foxthorn Tomahawk, very smart w/t with a good head, eyes & ears, correct reach of neck lay of shoulder & return of upper arm, good to span, good coat, just the right amount of hind angulation, moved well.

PGD (4)

1 Whiteley’s Sunrock And Russell Yard’s Made In America, b/w who caught my eye as he entered the ring, good through head eyes & ears, correct reach of neck & front assembly, good to span, correct topline & tailset, well developed thigh & second thigh, moved well when settled;

2 McCluskey’s Chadbrook Rocket, w/t dog built on stronger lines than the class winner, masculine head with good ears & eyes, just a little loaded over shoulders which detracted from his reach of neck, moved OK when settled;

3 Neild’s Logierait Lexi of Lochinvar.

LD (4)

1 Sturdy’s Alncroft Imperial, pleasing t/w dog of correct size, good through head, & eyes & ears, good lay of shoulder & return of upper arm, OK to span, correct topline & tailset, well-made hindquarters, not being very cooperative on the move;

2 Newport’s Sweetjumper’s Gentle Twister, another not too tall, correct head, ears & eyes, perhaps a tad thick in neck & deep in brisket for me, good lay of shoulder & return of upper arm, good hind angles with well-developed thigh & second thigh, could have put a bit more into his movement;

3 Wilson’s Chataway Huntsman Spider.

OD (6)

1 Wilson’s Ch Pacolito Highly Prized at Dragonmoor, well balanced w/t dog with masculine head, correct ears & eyes, good reach of well arched neck which flowed into correct lay of shoulder, just the right amount of return of upper arm, thick weatherproof coat & excellent loose thick pelt, rise over the loin can be felt rather than seen, strong well developed quarters, moved with a lovely free ground covering gait not seen in all exhibits. CC & BOB;

2 Newport’s Digaden Playing The Field, w/t built on similar lines to the winner, good through head, neck & front assembly, correct span pelt & coat, well developed thigh & second thigh & in lovely hard condition without being overloaded, moved well. RCC;

3 Dooner’s Ir Ch Jappatin Charlie Fox.

VD (1)

1 Hall’s Frithgarth Jack Frost, 9 years dog of lovely type, good head, & eyes & ears, correct reach of neck, front assembly & topline, super pelt & coat, well-made quarters, not very enthusiastic on the move. BVD & BV.

PB (3)

1 Broadberry’s Alncroft In Tune at Ratscallion, very feminine tri bitch, attractive head with good ears & eyes, good neck flowing into correct lay of shoulder with correct return of upper arm, good pelt & to span, correct topline & tailset, well developed quarters, moved well from every angle. BPB & BP;

3 Friery’s Pacolito Philae.

JB (4,1)

1 Rimmer’s Kylini Mona Lisa, feminine tri bitch not wearing her best coat but could not be denied her place, well balanced all through, good through head, neck, shoulder & upper arm, correct topline, good to span & strong well developed quarters, moved well;

2 Laird’s Mindlen Freyja, similar type of bitch who was completely out of coat, correct head, & eyes & ears, good neck & lay of shoulder, spannable, correct quarters, moved well;

3 Shaw’s Sonateeka First On The Spot.

PGB (4)

1 Bigland’s Heythrop Tiffin, lovely type of workmanlike bitch with correct Parson head, good ears & eyes, correct neck & lay of shoulder, & return of upper arm, correct topline, good pelt & to span, well developed thigh & second thigh, moved well;

2 K Mona Lisa;

3 Brown & Grange’s Afinlea Speckled Wood.

LB (6,1)

2 Smith & Moon’s Alncroft In Gold, close up to the winner & of similar type, good through head, & neck & front assembly, spannable with correct pelt, well developed thigh & second thigh, good profile movement;

CC;

2 Baker’s Ch Pacolito Phirstedition, quality bitch who was close up to the winner, lovely wedge shaped head carried on good reach of neck, well laid shoulders & return of upper arm, good to span, correct topline, strong quarters which she used to her advantage on the move. RCC;

3 Liddell’s Lyonmill Daydream.

VB (1)

1 Newport’s Pacolito Xpectations, 8 years w/t bitch really enjoying her day out, good triangular shaped head, super thick loose pelt, thick weatherproof coat, moved out well. BVB.
