The Parson Russell Terrier Club – Sunday 14th July 2024
Village Hall, Colton nr Rugeley
JUDGE Mark Walshaw - JANMARK
It was a honour to be invited to be the judge at the PRTC championship show, I thank the officers and committee for the invitation. The show was held at a lovely village hall, Colton nr Rugeley, the sun shone and it was delight to judge outdoors on the freshly mowed grass. The ring was on a slight incline, but the dogs coped admirably and it did not affect them in the slightest and did not affect movement. I thank all exhibitors for their entries and preparing their dogs for competition. I was delighted with my principal winners and generally the quality was good. I found no bad mouths and the majority were sporting good jackets, a must for any terrier that is expected to work underground. I did note that front assemblies could be better, the standard asks for ‘legs are carried well back under the body’ , sadly a few were lacking in this area.
I found my principle winner, which was the DCC winner, Best in Show and Best veteran in show winner in the Male CH Heythrop Task Master for Alncroft. At just turned 7 years old, he still demands your attention, fits the standard to the T and is foot perfect in movement. Still as keen as mustard, very workmanlike, in excellent condition, both in coat & muscletone. Presented and handled to perfection. Hes balanced throughout, excellent height to length ratio, excels in head, typical with strength, clean muscular neck, good topline, with a strong loin and tidy tailset. Clean through a good front assembly. Well ribbed back, good bone, smart powerful rear angles, low hock and stood on compact feet. Sporting an excellent jacket, dense with a thick undercoat, that would give the desired protection when working. Fits the bill for me standard wise and I am sure he would do a good days work, fit for purpose.
My BPIS was awarded to a bitch of 10 ½ months, Deglacobs Rebecca Riot by Pacolita.. Very promising, but doesn’t want to grow on any more. Another built on very good proportions and so typical. Lovely head, very typical, wedged and smart keen eye and tidy ears. Good neck, well placed front, ample bone and substance. Good topline, tailset and well ribbed well back. She had a good pliable thick pelt and sporting a correct jacket. Well proportioned and angled rear assembly, which was put to purpose on the move, covering the ground with ease and visible power. Fully deserved the RCC and I am sure she is destined soon for the top table. I note she is sired by the RDCC winner.
