PARSON JACK RUSSELL PAIGNTON 11 Judge: Miss M K Rimmer PARSON RUSSELL TERRIER I would like to thank all the exhibitors who made the trek down to Paignton, I was very pleased with my main winners but as a general overview I found some ears getting a little too large and hound like dropping below the eye line, some eyes were on the small side, some top lines have lost the rise over loin but my main concern was the overall size of the breed which is creeping up and up, and whilst from a distance dogs look balanced and in proportion they are getting too tall - the breed is in danger of morphing into something else unless we arrest the problem now. It is interesting to find the height problem is not as big an issue in other countries I have visited such as France Belgium and the Netherlands and I believe this is because the dogs are usually measured and oversized dogs are not graded. I would like to see the re-introduction of the measure and maybe this could initially be implemented at the Club shows. I was looking for an animal that had correct conformation not too much bone and was flexible enough to be spanned without compression making it fit for the purpose of working below ground in the small holes on Exmoor which is where the breed originated. MPD (2) 1 Newport's Digaden Playing Away. 7 months promising tan and white pup broad masculine head dark eye, ears ok standing but flies them on the move at the moment, clean front down to tight feet, easily spannable, harsh pelt well angulated in rear would prefer a little more rise over loin moving well for age. 2 Baker's Pacolito Prymeval head not quite so well defined as 1 clean shoulder, down to tight, feet top line ok well angulated fore and aft not quite as span able as 1 and needs to settle a little more on the move which will come with maturity. PD (1 ) 1 Newport's Digaden Playing The Field. 9 months dark tan badger head decent shape dark eye ear set ok correct bite. Off fore turns out a little standing and is thrown out on the move. Deep chest just span able top line ok and well angulated in rear would not like to see him grow any taller. JD (3) 1 Hooley's Hoolmark Sundance Kid. Rich red colouration on head and root of tail pleasing head shape with dark eye good ear set correct bite. Would like a little more reach of neck but shoulder clean enough just span able which came as a surprise as overall size is not overstated harsh pelt tight feet still a little unsettled on the move but should improve with age. 2 Newport's Digaden Playing The Field. 3 Eastwood's Pacolito Rouge Trader At Denylhill. Pgd (1) 1 Johnson's Garsayno Magic Man. Good wedge to head with correct ears and dark eye tricoloured correct bite reach of neck ok for size clean shoulder tight feet top line ok well angulated fore and aft easily span able not too tall good movement considered him for reserve CC. LD (6) 1 Newport's Ratscallion Tactical Play. Stands over a lot of ground pleasing head ears ok dark eye adequate length of neck tight feet just span able short harsh pelt top line ok a little over angulated in rear but moved well. 2 Eastwood's Pacolito Preshous At Denlyhill. Close run between this and winner and could change places next time again a good wedge head dark eye enough reach of neck good top line and never stopped wagging his tail tight feet span able and moving ok. 3 Baker's Spellbert Supersonic Via Pacolito. OD (4) This had to be the best class of the day and such harsh fact that anyone had to be at the end of the line as all were good dogs. 1 Hooley's Ch Hoolmark Johnny Ringo. A very eye catching dog tricolour head of excellent proportions well defined stop bright dark eye alert expression and correct ear set good reach of neck clean shoulder lovely front not too deep in chest and very easily span able no compression needed stands himself in correct position and moved with drive to earn CC and BOB. 2 Tagg's Rymshott Tac Tic. Another balanced dog a little stronger in head but dark eye and correct bite clean neck good top line and tight feet easily span able and well angulated fore and aft harsh pelt and moving out well close run thing to 1 earned him RCC. 3 Sollis's Ch Mister Bonamonty. MPB (4,1) 1 Minett's Pacolito Seksy. A beautiful baby puppy of correct size for age and should not go over tall feminine in head dark eye everything in the right place a very promising pup which can only improve with age can drop her tail a bit on standing but carries it proudly on the move and easily my choice for BP. 2 Baker's Hot Persuit Of Pacolito. Larger all over than 1 pleasing head shape but ears need to settle good overall outline well angulated moving ok but would not like to see her grow on much taller. 3 Bowden's Pacolito Price To Pay At Chellowside. PB (3) 1 Baker's Pacolito Milarki Head. Could have a better stop dark eye clean neck shoulder good and tight feet span able but would like a little more rise over loin a good harsh pelt and moving out well. 2 Nixon's Gonetoground Go For Gold. Head shape ok but would like a little more substance to muzzle clean neck into good shoulder well angulated fore and aft correct top line easily span able with good smooth pelt moved out well could well change places with 1 another time. 3 Luxton's Digaden Play Girl. JB (1 1 Newport's Digden Playing Truent. Good overall outline with feminine head darkish eye feet tight just span able well angulated fore and aft harsh pelt moved round well would not like to see her grow on any taller. PGB (2) Would have liked to place these two the other way round as I preferred the conformation of 2 but she would keep on pacing. 1 Newport's Pacolito Xceptional. Head shape ok but would like a little more well defined stop, overall angulation good short dense pelt span able but standing a little wide in front moving with purpose. 2 Pacolito Phigurehead At Denlhill Overall fined build than 1 feminine head dark eye clean shoulder and good top line span able and well angulated fore and aft but she would pace which lost her the class. LB 1 Digaden Glamouruss I judged her as a pup and liked her very much then and I am glad to see on judging her again she has matured on very well excellent feminine wedge head mostly black with tan points overall pleasing outline correct ear set dark eye and strong muzzle correct bite enough reach of neck to good top line spannable with good pelt and good for size we l angulated fore and aft and moving with drive and purpose to achieve CC. 2 Tagg's Hoolmark Tidy another bitch with feminine head not over tall and dark eye good ear set enough reach of neck to good top line easily span able and well angulated fore and aft moved well and pushed hard for RCC. 3 Baker's Pacolit Persistant. OB (4,1) 1 Sutton's Ch Maid A Photune At Springbeck. Overall impression very pleasing with good outline proportions and good for size feminine head black over one eye cheeky expression dark eye good front down to tight feet harsh pelt and easily span able well let down hock and moved with drive pushed hard for CC but gave her well earned RCC. 2 Baker's Pacolito Persuit. Larger than 1 all over and not quite so feminine in head would like a better stop good reach of neck harsh pelt and just span able well angulated rear tight feet top line ok and held on the move. 3 Newport's Ch Pacolito Pathfinder.
