PARSON RUSSELL JUDGE WINDSOR 22

Thank you to the Committee for the invitation to judge at their 2022 show. My first CC appointment for the breed I have had the pleasure to be involved with for over 25 years. Sincere thanks to the exhibitors for their entry and the sporting way in which they accepted my placings. I was spoilt for choice in some classes, particularly in the higher bitch classes. I was splitting hairs such was the quality and compromises had to made at times. Type is varied but size I felt had vastly improved and virtually all exhibits were spannable. There were quite a few long nails and dirty teeth and some were carrying a little excess weight which affected outlines. Coats too were varied but I found plenty of weather proof, double, harsh jackets. Temperaments were all exemplary and made it an absolute pleasure to complete my assignment.

VD/B (5,2)

1 Blair & Hadley’s Cleeve Hill Kasper (Imp Bel). This dog is in superb condition for his age and moves just as soundly as he did when I judged him a few years ago. His head is classic Parson and his expression with his dark eye exudes the keen, bright inquisitive nature that we love about the breed. Correct harsh, double, broken coat. Carried himself to advantage, holding a good topline and tailset both standing and on the move. Up to size but still spannable. His sound and straight movement with good drive from well developed quarters secured him the RDCC.

2 Smith’s Digaden Top Hat & Tails. Similar remarks apply to this tan and white dog. Shown in superb condition with good coat texture. Good head and well balanced overall. Well angulated rear giving him good rear drive. Handled and presented very well.

3 Kannagara’s Sherosco Christmas Rose. Completed a trio of veterans that are a credit to their owners.

PD (3)

1 Harcourt-Morris’ Lenacourt Lord Joules. Promising youngster of good overall proportion and breed type. Immature at present but everything is in the right place. Lovely head and expression. Well angulated fore and hindquarters gave him reach and drive when he settled. Good length of neck, layback of shoulder and return of upperarm. Good ribbing, length of loin, topline with slight rise over the loin. Good tailset and carriage. I look forward to seeing him when he matures. BPD.

2 Johnston’s Foxfur Magician. Lovely head on this puppy, strong but not overdone. Good for size and an easy span. Good coat and presentation. Well balanced, moved out well in front, good clean, straight action, sound behind when settled. Promising.

3 Woods & Boorman’s Master Bobby Fox Fur Newark.

JD (2)

Lovely class to judge. Little to separate these two males, both have many similar qualities.

1 Hobson’s Partridgdale Flynn. Masculine but in no way overdone. Masculine head and expression, no mistaking his sex. Crisp double coat with decent pelt. Easy to span. Ample length of neck leading to adequate lay of shoulder and topline. Very tidy in front movement, his profile balanced, good rear construction propelling him with drive. One of the best sets of feet of the day. Well presented.

2 Casson’s Mindlen Hendricks. A lovely headpiece on this dog, nothing overdone. Lovely dark eye and expression. Good size and easy to span. Good length of neck and layback of shoulder. Super coat and presented well. Correct topline and tailset. Moved out well with drive from his well angulated hind quarters. Well presented and handled.

PGD (1)

1 Brown’s Afinlea Pale Tussock. Very good for size, nice wedge shaped head, good small ears, eyes dark, lacking in eyelid pigment. Ok length neck, with adequate length of neck and lay back of shoulder. He had a decent length of upper arm and moderately angulated hindquarters. Crisp broken coat. Spannable. Moved well in front and in profile, not quite so positive behind. Handled well.

LD (5,1)

1 Walker’s Digaden Top Form. Tricolour dog that I loved for his size, substance and type. Beautiful head, with correct dark eye and pigment giving a keen, intelligent expression. Ample length of neck leading into decent layback of shoulder, correct topline, good tailset and carriage. Super dense, broken coat of good texture, scoring over the bitch today in it’s density and presentation. Easy to span. Well off for bone, neat in elbows with compact feet. Plenty of dog behind the tail. He moved soundly with drive on well angulated, muscular hindquarters. Pleased to award him the DCC and BOB. Delighted to see him shortlisted in the Group.

2 Manson’s Vixenview Knightsbridge. Another dog that is super for size and is an easy span. Strong, masculine head. Good topline and tailset. Well angulated rear with low set hocks. Moved well behind with strong driving action.

3 Hall’s Frithgarth Master The World.

OD (6,1)

1 Manson’s Cleevehill Ravini (Imp Bel). Tricoloured dog, with a masculine head and good expression. Very good for size. Easy span. Lovely neck and shoulder. Correct topline and tailset. Slightly wide coming toward but moved well in profile with a well angulated rear giving him good drive from behind. Harsh, well presented coat.

2 McCluskey’s Ch Chadbrook Sunfire. Good for size, easy span. Lovely masculine head and strong jaw, dark eye with keen expression. Good length to neck. Correct topline and tailset. Moved soundly, neat action in front, would prefer touch more drive behind. Harsh well presented coat. Shown in good muscular condition.

3 Newport’s Cudweed’s Master Of The Hounds (Imp Dnk).

PB (4,1)

Interesting class to judge with differing types yet plenty of merit.

1 Young’s Chadbrook Chance’s Legacy. Well balanced bitch puppy with a strong wedge shaped head. Good length of neck, return of upperarm and well laid shoulders. Good topline, tailset and carriage. She held her outline well on the move, moving positively with drive from well developed hind quarters. Would prefer her a touch less heavy in ear. Her overall balance and conformation is very pleasing. Good coat and pelt, well presented.

2 Bigland’s Heythrop Taranna. This bitch is more feminine than first with a beautiful head of correct proportions. Lovely expression. Spot on for size. Well balanced. Sound action in profile, straight fore and aft. Harsh, broken coat.

3 Evans & Barnes’ Bellvalley Full Of Fire.

JB (4,1)

1 Evans & Barnes’ Bellvalley Kissed By Fire. So much to like about this nearly 9 month old bitch. She’s immature at present but everything is in the right place. So well balanced with substance and elegance. Lovely feminine head that still needs time to develop but she has a dark eye, keen expression and correct shaped skull. Correct sized ears and good earset. Lovely length of neck, into well laid shoulders. Correct topline, tailset and carriage. Well constructed rear with neat, well let down hocks. Moved straight, true and with drive when settled. Beautiful broken coat and pelt, easily spanned. I look forward to watching her progress. Delighted to award her BPIB and considered her for higher honours in strong company.

2 Young’s Chadbrook Little Target. Lovely size bitch with many positive attributes. She has a beautiful head that is strong but feminine. Good length of neck, well angulated fore and hindquarters. Well laid shoulder, good topline and tailset. Spannable. Movement unsettled today.

3 Woods & Boorman’s Vixenview Talia Shire.

PGB (5, 1)

Really pleasing class of bitches to judge.

1 Buckley’s Gonetoground High’n Mighty. Loved this bitch for her balance, type and complete lack of exaggeration. She is very moderate just as the breed should be. She has the prettiest of heads, with ample width of skull, tapering to a good muzzle with strong under jaw. Dark eyes of correct shape giving a classic Parson expression. Ears small and well placed. So well balanced, lovely length of neck with good return of upperarm and layback of shoulder. Easy spannable. Good rough coat texture and pelt. Correct topline and tailset. Moved soundly and true holding her outline. Her correct forequarter construction gave her ample reach in front in profile and neat straight action coming toward. Her well angulated hind quarters, good length to second thigh and low set hocks gave her strong hind drive. Ultimately this super hind action was just one of her many attributes making it an absolute pleasure to award her the BCC over some lovely bitches today.

2 Bigland’s Heythrop Tangletop. A lovely bitch of good size and proportions. Very pretty, correct wedge shaped head with dark eye and super expression. Double rough coat and decent pelt. Very good length of neck, layback of shoulder, topline and tailset. Well developed hindquarters. Moved very soundly, straight and true.

3 Hughes’ Ruffntuff Rush Of Love.

LB (8,1)

1 Bigland’s Heythrop Topsyturvey. Another exhibit of very good size from this kennel. Lovely head, with dark eye and expression. Good length of neck, correct topline and tailset. Easily spanned. Good overall proportions. Not in her best jacket today but enough to guage texture and depth. Moved well in profile with good rear driving action from well developed hindquarters.

2 Young’s Chadbrook Affirmation. Slightly heavier bitch than first, but still feminine. Lovely head and expression. Well constructed bitch with lovely length of neck and well laid shoulder. Correct topline and tailset. Well angulated quarters with well let down hocks. Moved well.

3 Nixon’s Gonetoground I Have A Dream.

OB (7,2)

Super class to judge with some difficult decisions to make.

1 Dayman & Cole’s Ch Pacolito Phinal Edition. Presented a pleasing overall picture and of good size. Lovely head and expression. Dark eye and correct ear shape and carriage. Good length of neck into well laid shoulder. Good topline and tailset. Easily spanned. Presented in super coat and condition. Moved steadily. Worthy champion. RCC.

2 Roberts & Murray’s Ch Mindlen Moccasin. So much to like about this bitch. She has a beautiful head, with dark eye and neat ear. Good length to her neck and well laid back shoulders. Good return of upperarm. Correct topline and tailset. Unfortunately carrying a little extra weight today but still spannable. Beautiful double, broken coat, presented well. She is well balanced fore and aft and moved soundly. Another worthy champion.

3 McCluskey’s Chadbrook Elka. Completed a trio of top drawer bitches that could change places on another day.
