SEALYHAM CRUFTS 09 SEALYHAM TERRIER Judge(s): Mr K Holmes SEALYHAM JUDGE CRUFTS 09 Sealyham Terriers Both my CC winners were of excellent type & very sound. I was delighted to hear my BOB had won the group & then go on to make breed history by being the first Sealyham to win BIS at Crufts. How wonderful for the breed. Type was generally good, with some lovely domed skulls, size was not a major problem. Rear movement was a major concern to say the least & in many cases was the deciding factor in my placings. Toplines were not good, too many were weak & dipping. I do hope that breeders will pay particular attention to movement, soundness must & should be a priority in this breed. Presentation on the whole was good, though some dogs had too much coat left on their legs & skirts. VD (2) 1 Bettis’ Ch Ornella Dizzi Deri, tan marked 8 year old, one I have done well in the past & was still looking good. All male, a real showman, very good topline kept on the move, in good coat & well presented, clean in neck & shoulders, good body, plenty of substance, strong in head, good bite, sound mover in both directions; 2 Horn’s Ch Pindarick Boy Oh Boy, white 9 year old, superbly presented in very good coat & condition, nice size, classic head type, good neck & clean shoulders. Would have liked a firmer topline & lost out on the move to 1. PD (1) 1 Jones’ Zippor White Rum, attractive tan marked 11 month old with potential, excellent head, very good topline, in good coat, well presented & in good condition, correct tailset & carriage, not over the back, nice size for age, sound rear movement. Needs to settle in front action. BP. JD (1) 1 Lewis’ Nomis Not Now, in excellent coat & well presented, good type, mature for age, very good outline, nice neck & shoulder. Could be a shade more refined in skull. Sound topline & tailset, looked good stacked. Not happy at all on the move, difficult to assess movement & needs more time to gain confidence. PGD (5,1) 1 Dooley’s Dursegg Boatswains Mate, white, almost 2 years old & maturing well, his type & soundness appealed, liked him for size, very sound mover in both directions with plenty of drive, good topline kept on the move, clean outline & well balanced, good tailset & carriage, in good coat, well presented; 2 Jones’ Six Pack Smile with Zippor, blue marked, masculine size, good head, ample neck, in good coat. Not so settled as 1 on the move & would have liked a firmer topline. Pity his feet were stained but has a happy temperament; 3 Bettis’ Ornella I’ve Been Tangoed, tan marked, in good coat, nice size, OK in head, sound bite, moved OK. Carrying too much weight. LD (4,1) 1 Bettis’ Plumhollow Seek Him Here Ornella, impressive, masculine, nothing to dislike about him at all, tan marked, really sound all through, very good mover in both directions, plenty of drive, sound in topline, clean outline, good balance, good length of head. A touch broader than I like. Good neck & shoulders, in good coat & presentation, a real showman; 2 Horn’s Kamryan Hey Look At Me, white, appeals very much for type, lovely head, good width & length, excellent coat & presentation, nice size. Lost out on maturity & not so settled on the move as 1; 3 S Pack Smile with Z. OD (10) 1 Good & Middlebrook’s Am/Can/Sw Ch Eebe’s Hidalgo at Goodspice, 5 years blue marked, just had it all. Superb presentation, condition & handling, in excellent hard wiry coat, a first class showman who never put his tail down nor a foot wrong, deep chest, low to ground, good body shape, carrying enough substance, kept level topline on the move, clean neck & shoulders, good head, nicely domed skull, good bite, straight front, powerful parallel rear, good bend of stifle, moving freely & with plenty of drive, a pleasure to watch him move, ideal size & fits the Standard so well. CC & BOB; 2 Horn’s Ch Eleighwater Prince Charles, looked the part, excellent head, good domed skull, sound topline, good tailset. I liked his spring of rib & general type, excellent coat & presentation, moved very well in both directions. Unlucky to meet 1. RCC; 3 Frost’s Ch Jumbeeden Guinness, smaller size, well presented & sound topline, good tailset, nice head, moved soundly behind. Would prefer a more positive front action, could have moved & shown with more enthusiasm. GCD (0). VB (2) 1 Horn’s Ch Churclo Concerto, gave this lovely bitch a CC & BOB some 10 years ago, delighted to see her again in such fine fettle & denying her 12 years. Very feminine, still so sound, superb head, in good coat, nice presentation & condition. Certainly can show some youngsters how to move & keep a level topline; 2 Jones’ Tommarv Scarlet Ribbons, 7 year old tan marked, excellent feminine type, nice for size, in good coat, well balanced shape, good head, clean neck & shoulders, in good coat & presentation, well handled & moved out well. PB (0). JB (2) 1 Lewis’ Nomis New Day, badger marked, impressive feminine quality, very good head & expression, good bite, sound topline, good harsh coat & well presented, nice tail carriage, nice outline & balance, moved very well within the class but unfortunately threw away her chances in the challenge. Should do well when settled; 2 Beales’ Ornella Victoria Plush, white, excellent type, lovely head, in very good coat & presentation, sound in topline & on the move. Just needs to move with more drive & show with more enthusiasm. PGB (6) 1 Gamble’s Plumhollow When I Look At You at Deermist, quality mature 4 year old tan marked, excellent outline & balance, in good coat & presentation, ample substance, good body & spring of rib, domed skull, correct bite, sound topline, showed & moved well; 2 Butcher’s Ornella Tegwen’s Tango, smaller type & so very feminine, really lovely head, in good coat & presentation, nice steady mover, good driving action, in good body & kept topline on the move; 3 Wonnacott’s Jacott Moonlight Serenade, nice size. Would like a little more refinement in head. Well made body, good substance, well presented & in nice coat, quite a sound mover. LB (6,1) 1 Moyes’ Plumhollow Duty Bound, very feminine, nice size, excellent head & expression, well made body, good spring of rib, very sound free mover in both directions with drive which was the deciding factor in getting the RCC. Could have been a shade firmer in topline. In lovely harsh coat, well prepared & showing very well; 2 Wonnacott’s Jacott Starlight, nice size & feminine, good coat, nice head of good proportions, well made body, good outline. Unfortunately not as positive on the move or in topline as 1; 3 Gamble’s Blackthorpe White Mist, 5 year old tan marked, very nice type, good substance, kept topline well. Disappointed me on the move. In good coat & well presented. OB (6) 1 Sacco Allevamento Saore’s It/Sw Ch Saore Goodnightlovers, tan marked, took my eye as she entered the ring, so utterly feminine in type, in super harsh coat, expertly presented handled, totally sound all through, straight front, clean neck & shoulders, very clean outline, nicely made body, level topline, correct tailset, parallel rear movement, quite a charmer & one I could take home. CC; 2 Lewis’ Ch Nomis New Beginning, blue marked, full of quality, mature & finished. One I have previously awarded top honours to but today disappointed me as not at all together. Have seen her move & show far better. In full coat & as always well presented, a worthy champion; 3 Horn’s Ch Zippor Forever Myfyanwy, excellent type, really true Sealyham head, nicely balanced throughout, in excellent coat & condition. One I have judged before & done well in the past but today failed in movement. GCB (1) 1 Williams & Nash’s Jacott Penny’s From Heaven, feminine & nice size, good head, nice coat & presentation good, her young handler was very compliant. KEVIN HOLMES |
