SEALYHAM TERRIER

My thanks to all the exhibitors for their entries and support and especially those who had travelled long distances. It was much appreciated. In general terms, I fear that our Sealyhams are now becoming too short in back - the British standard specifically calls for an 'oblong, not square' Sealyham. Some exhibits were not moving as well as I have seen them previously, for whatever reason I am not sure, and sadly there were several quite dubious bites. Again the standard is clear - a 'scissor bite'. Presentation was generally good and I found, thankfully, no health or temperament problems whatsoever.

Three lovely exhibits, all worthy champions.

1 Winsley's Ch Davmar Duty Free. Lovely blue marked dog, would not though like him any bigger, presented in really hard condition and exuding substance, excellent bone and feet, needs to be handled to fully appreciate his fine qualities. Looked a picture in profile and retained his topline when both standing and moving, his movement was first class and very true both coming and going, he did drop his tail to half-mast briefly towards the conclusion of one of his walks but everything else about him more thana outweighed this for me, and I could not find anything to take the CC and BOB away from him when considering the overall dog.

2 Horn's Ch Pindaric Boy Oh Boy. Has carried the flag for the breed for some time now, and deservedly so. Still moving with freedom and soundness and looked well today. Beautifully presented as always. Perhaps just starting to show his age but he brings great credit to his owner and pleasure to those who can admire him in the show ring.

3 Bettis' Ch Ornella Dizzi Deri ShCM. Well presented and giving first and second a run for their money. Good head, neck and shoulders and in nice condition and coat. Topline ran up towards the tail today and movement not quite so good as first and second.

Sp JD(1)

1 Peel's Esanar Total Eclipse. In hard condition and possessing good bone, pleasing head and dark eye, tail well set and plenty behind the tail, rather runs up to his tail and tended to be wayward on the move.

PGD(6)

1 Tobijanski's Zippor I Will Remember You. Well presented and oblong, balanced and clean in outline, pleasing head, good neck and shoulders, excellent topline, elbows well tucked in, strength in rear quarters but tail set a bit low, in good coat. Not yet two years old and shows good promise.

2 Newbury's Eleighwater Petraeus. Close up to first but a bit shorter in back, nice type with good head, pleasing front and level topline, in good coat, well presented and showed well.

3 Titchmarsh's Ornella Mini Cooper. Nice head with dark eye, good neck and shoulders, pleasing bone, oblong in appearance, well presented and handled, could benefit from a bit more weight on him and moving a bit close behind.

LD(3, 2)

1 Horn's Kamryan Hey Look Me Over At Topstage. Stood alone. Very pleasing, well presented dog of nice size and shape, proved a bit of a handful at times but when he settled he moved soundly both coming and going, good head, neck and shoulders, running into a level topline, well ribbed, in good coat, should do well.

OD(8, 1)

A very competitive class of differing types and modes of presentation. Five champions from various countries and the other two are on their way. Therefore it was not easily sorted out. In the end I felt that the winner 'just had that bit more about him' than second and third.

1 Horn's Kamryan Hey Look At Me. Surprised when I saw this dog today. Seems to have now 'come together', being far less loose and gangly, and much more settled when asked to move he did it very well. In good coat, well presented, and looking the part when moving and standing. Good forehand and well set tail. RCC.

2 Daley's Ir Ch Cibach Celtic Connection. All whwite dog, smaller than first, has good head, ears well placed, dark eye and sound bite, pleasing neck and shoulders, and topline is level, moved truly and with purpose. To be supercritical, I found him marginally short in back and would like him to be a bit more masculine, still young and will improve.

3 Hansen's Dk/Int Ch Whitepepper's Othello. Larger dog, slightly heavily marked on ears which are well placed, dark eye, good bone bone and ribcage and tail well set, strong quarters with plenty behind his tail, moved well both ways.

VB(2)

1 Matthews' Ch Leomona Star Appeal. Slightly overweight today but remains a nice bitch with good head, neck and shoulders, pleasing bone and substance and strong quarters, moved well.

2 Jones' Tommarv Scarlet Ribbons. An old favourite and good servant who continues to move well, nice head and still retains a decent topline, tail on top.

Sp JB(1)

1 Thomas' Cibach Cristal Clear. Liked her and her outline, very nice, good sized bitch with pleasing head, ears, eyes and mouth, just a bit leggy at present but will drop, the best undocked tail of the day, held very erect and well set, moved well both ways, good presentation and in good coat, very promising indeed. One to watch.

PGB(7, 1)

1 Evans' Zippor A Tale Of Two Sisters At Nileda. Pretty bitch of smaller type, very feminine, good head but shortage of beard made it seem slightly small and just upset the balance, her neck ran into well placed shoulders and topline was level, well presented, moved well.

2 Newbury's Eleighwater Prunella. Larger than first, oblong and balanced, pleasing head, looked well in profile, well presented, just thought first moved more fluently.

3 Skeffington's Cibach Chianti Of Thornberryhall. Another nice one from this kennel, pleasing size, good proportions and looking well in profile, movement true and free.

LB (4)

1 Lewis' Ornella Mini Neon Now Nomis. Well presented and in good coat, pleasing in outline and balance, good head, nice neck and shoulders, well ribbed, moved soundly.

2 Winsley &Holmes' Polrose Paper Moon. Very nice type and size, well constructed, good head, neck and shoulders, lovely topline, just a trifle short in back for me. In very good coat. Today she didn't want to move sensibly or show herself properly or help her handler. Otherwise she would have been, very possibly, my winner of the class.

3 Daly's Cibach Celebration.

OB(6, 1)

1 Lewis' Ch Nomis New Day. Very nice bitch of larger type, good presentation, balanced and pleasing in outline. In good coat, head, neck, shoulders, topline also good, as she was behind the tail. Moved well both ways. To be picky, I would have liked her to have been in slightly harder condition but she was a good winner of the CC.

2 Thomas' Cibach Crescendo. Very feminine, smaller than first, balanced and in harsh coat, very nice head, neck and shoulders, topline ok and tail well set, a lot to like about her. The winner took the class on freer movement today. Hope she will soon be made up. RCC.

3 Moyes' Ch Plumhollow Duty Bound. Sired by the BOB winner as also is the winner of this class. A nicely balanced very sound bitch, looking well today and in good coat and condition, but topline not at its best. As usual moved very truly and with purpose.

Good Citizen B (1)

1 Williams &Nash's Jacott Pennies From Heaven. Enthusiastic and enjoying herself but making it not easy to handle her. However I saw enough for me to like her balance and outline and see that she has sound movement. Just a bit narrow all through. Best Puppy, Hawks and Bledge's Am Ch Blomendal's Born In The USA At Thunderroad.
