SOFT COATED WHEATEN BLACKPOOL 19 Judge(s): MR F J GADD DCC CH GREENTREE GOLD MOMBO TO DENZILLY (IMP USA) (MS J L & MR G J DOWDY) I want to thank the Committee for the honour of officiating for them and for organising the fantastic weather. Also, for their, warm hospitality shown to my wife and myself. I think it would be prudent of me to mention how well I thought the show was running, it looked and felt that most were thoroughly enjoying themselves. I would also like to thank the exhibitors for their kindness, generous applause to all my decisions. The Soft Coated Wheaten has come a long way in relatively a short time, which is down to the dedication of their owners and breeders. I was pleased to find that mouths have improved quite a bit since I the last time judged them. However, I did get a couple of flush bites. Moreover, what I did find, and found quite disappointing and alarming was the length of back (topline). I also had one or two upright shoulders, this was disappointing, especially as they were on beautifully turned out exhibits. It does spoil their movement. The movement has improved so much so that it’s hardly worth mentioning it, except perhaps there was one or two, still a little close in their rear action. The overall expression, muzzle, jaw, and ear carriage were to a high standard. The ear carriage I believe is important as it shows the innocent character of the Wheaten Terrier. With most coats in fine condition with one or two showing change, changing to adult, I had no problems here, though I did get one almost white coat. JD (1) 1 Wright’s Abbeymead Stelline. A fine youngster who stood alone I would have liked a challenge for him, however, it would have to be something special to beat him. Out to have fun and did. His handler did excellently and managing to show off his futuristic qualities, this fellow had a classic head, first-rate front, strong bone stood square, tight feet he was having fun with his day out, and it went ok for him, deserving his award. PGD (2) 1 Holding’s Celtannia Atlantic Gigolo. Another turned out to impress me and did just that. Masculine head, strong and deep through, powerful muzzle. Excellent neck, leading into well placed shoulders. Beautiful front elevation, and profile, deep rib with breathing room well-developed hindquarters. Perfect angulation. Low set hocks displaying plenty of drive. 2 Taylor’s Eblanahalls Teckleish At Raisingsands. Two super dogs of which both deserved the first place. Striking head of grand proportions, well developed neck leading into well placed shoulders, excellent front elevation, grand profile. Deep chest, superb tuck (into Loin), ample hindquarters, full of hard muscle, he moved positively around the ring. LD (4, 1) 1 Thoburn’s Northbridge Me And Tennessee. I liked this fellow’s attitude; you name it; he had it. A grand head full of expression, powerful jaw. With the darkest eye great expression, top-notch neck leading into well laid shoulders, excellent front elevation and profile deep ribs, short back. Hindquarters superbly mussel he looked the part on the move. 2 Satherley’s Silkcroft Freeze Frame JW. Another that suited me well satisfactory head and expression well developed neck leading into superbly placed shoulders, excellent front, lovely profile short back, level topline, hindquarters packed with hard muscle. He took charge when I asked him to move, looking good. 3 Patterson’s Snowmeadow Sauls Symphony To Gavleash. A top class fellow that deserved better, and I am quite sure and in no doubt that he will go onto greater things. Fine head and expression, powerful neck, excellent shoulder placement, grand front elevation, well muscled neck, excellent profile, stood square, hindquarters packed with hard muscle when I asked him to move he moved well. OD (9, 2) 1 Dowdy’s Ch Greentree Gold Mombo to Denzilly (Imp USA). This ones overall creation was as near to perfection as you can get. Grand head, well sculptured powerful muzzle, strong and short, dark eyes full of mischief, in terrific coat, flowing beautifully on the move. Tremendous front elevation, superbly muscled chest, grand profile, well sprung, deep rib, first-class tuck-up. Hindquarters filled with hard muscle, close coupling giving that extra strength, Low set hocks. Flexing superbly on the move. First place going onto BOB and 3rd in the Terrier Group under Geoff Luscott. 2 Tilley’s Janeyjimjams Jubilee Star At Sarszak ShCM. Another in tip-top condition. He was a credit to his owner, suitable head deep though, Strong jaw, dark eye looking to have a good time, superbly constructed neck and excellent shoulder placement. Strong straight front with a super profile. Well tucked up, short coupled. I asked him to move around the ring, and it was a delight to see him go. Second place going on to win the Reserve Dog CC. 3 Dunhill-Hall’s Ch Mother’s Finest Jon Snow At Fantasia. (Imp Deu). I liked this fellow very much, but it looked as though the heat of the day had got to him as it did with several others, he felt and looked lethargic, but there is no doubt that on any other day he could have gone higher. Super head well defined, held in position by a well muscled neck leading into correctly placed shoulders. Tremendous front elevation and profile, deep ribs, tucked up with short loin, remarkably hard-working hindquarters, moved like he owned the ring. Reserve Moles-Williams & Dalton’s Ch Celtannia. Atlantic Gold. The beauty of the first four dogs was so high each would look good in the first position, and I believe that no one would have been the wiser, should I have been able to do so. Fine head, strong jaws, extremely dark eyes, well-formed neck, leading into firmly placed shoulders. First-rate front elevation and profile, deep ribs, fine hindquarters, low set hocks. When I asked him to move, he moved with real purpose. PB (4, 1) 1 Howes’ Daisymaes Tumbling Dice. I like most love puppies and today no different. However, this young lady has a lot going for her, promising head, neck, and body. She stood square and was a delight to go over, though young you could get the feeling of quality. Tremendous lay of shoulder, better than expected for a youngster. She was out to have a little fun; her handler did a grand job in showing off her futuristic promise. Moved as a pup with quality should. Pleasing to note that she was pulled out and shortlisted in the Puppy Group under Arne Foss (Norway). 2 Satherley & Witheyman’s Silkcroft Born This Way. One from the top drawer and I wanted to go over her. Confident, proud and full of fun, but none of this spoilt her outline, fine head still developing, going in the right direction. It’s always difficult to predict how she will turn out, but I for one hope that she lives up to her promise. Lovely construction and move like a pup of quality. 3 Crossley’s Calvenace Lucky Lady. Another which delighted me and a bit of a shame for her to be up against two exceptional pups. However, everything growing as it should with nothing out of place grand head and lovely expression. Constructed as one would expect in fine coat well off for bone when she decided to move, she moved well. JB (3) 1 Francis’ Sawheaten Kiss From A Rose. A rare occasion for me with one so full of promise, typical of the breed full of fun enjoyed me going over her, but stood her ground as an when it was necessary. Lovely head no dogginess quite pleasing to touch her, her neck you could see and feel the strength; she had a super lay of shoulder. She entered the ring full of herself, and obvious that she intended to have a good time. Her handler did a great job by bringing her into line, to show off her futuristic qualities. She had a beautiful coat showing change but not discreditable. Clean cheeks, the superb lay of shoulders. Excellent front elevation, chest muscled up agreeably. First rate profile, suitably sprung rib, deep into her chest lovely tuck, Short loin stood square, her engine room full of power and moved just a little mischievously this adding to her charm. I asked her to move once more around the ring; she quickly settled down and looked great. First place and Bitch CC. 2 Wright’s Abbeymead Capello D’Angelo. Another that I liked, presented in lovely condition. Grand head and expression, full of herself and wanted to go, her handler knew, however, what to do with her to show off all her qualities, tremendous front elevation and profile, excellent spring of rib, highly developed chest, a real credit, after settling down moved well. 3 Crossley’s Calvenace Lucky Lady. It is a shame when you come up against a fine example of the breed in such good form it’s a pity, but someone has to come third, however she stuck to her guns and put in a grand performance which did both her and handler credit. Fine front and profile excellent shoulder placement, fine tuck, her hindquarters were her powerhouses and moving well. PGB (6, 1) 1 Satherley’s Silcroft Point And Shoot. Another from the top drawer. Full of promise going places, typical of the breed, full of fun enjoyed me going over her but stood her ground as an when it was necessary sculptured head, quite pleasing to touch a super neck, with a super lay of shoulder, her overall construction one to feel. Just needs a little more body, moved well. I loved her construction. Excellent front and profile deep into her brisket. I sincerely hope that she continues in this vein until she fills out, moved well. Loved her, satisfying to go over her. Reserve Bitch CC. 2 Lui’s Eblanahalls Honeytrap JW. She was turned in to look her best. Moreover, I was happy to go over her. Fine head and neck leading into well-placed shoulders. Deep into her chest plenty of breathing room fine spring of rib. Admirable front first-rate profile good tuck ample stifle low hocks. When I asked to move around the ring moved like royalty. 3 Brown’s Carkbark Killy Stardancer. Presented in grand condition fine head, strong jaws, dark eye, clean cheeks, super neck, excellent shoulder placement. Very good front and straight profile bone, tight feet exemplary front brisket full of muscled, adequate rib, level topline, powerful hindquarters, but just a little close on her rear action. 4 MacGregor’s Kirktonhill What It’Not JW. LB (5) 1 Gent & Lees’ Flaxela My Secret Love At Sumerick. She was enjoying her day-out, and I liked that, however, she settled down for the important moments and seemed to enjoy me going over her. Nice head flat skull, grand expression, strong jaw dark eye, flat cheeks super construction, strong neck, excellent front and profile, level topline, hindquarters full of muscle and exceedingly strong, and moved well when asked to move around the ring. 2 Hammond & Evans’ Calvenace Lady Is A Tramp. Well muscled chest, strong straight bone, deep rib, fine tuck, stood square, hindquarters full of hard working muscle. When I asked her to move, she Moved well. 3 Holding’s Kirktonhill Cara Alainn. Well deserved her place, performing as a wheaten should, enjoying her day out. Nice head construction, powerful neck leading into well placed shoulders. I like her head, nice and deep, short muzzle, clean cheeks, held up by a strong neck, correctly placed shoulders, excellent front. Level topline, hindquarters full of hard muscle, moving gracefully around the ring. I enjoyed going over her. Judge Frederick J Gadd |
