SOFT COATED WHEATEN JUDGE BLACKPOOL 23
My thanks to the Blackpool Committee for their invitation to judge, and for their hospitality. Thanks also goes to my excellent steward, Hazel, for keeping things moving on this extremely hot and muggy day. The exhibitors should also be applauded for their generous spirit towards the other exhibitors on the day, making for a great atmosphere around the ring. Sadly though, there were no entries for PD, JD or YD today – where are all the young dogs hiding? Overall a great show of quality in the breed, and it was good to see mouths are much improved since I last judged.
PD, JD & YD
Sadly, no entries.
PGD (1)
1. Banbury’s Eblanahalls Yippee Ki Yay Of Somersisle. A balanced, square dog with coat of good texture. Strong head, dark eye and small ears. Straight front and good depth of chest. Level topline. Rear angulation ok. A little unsettled on the move to start with, but eventually moved ok and looked happier in the ring.

1. Herbert’s Saffini Smooth Operator At Julibidd. Nice for size, and well balanced. Coat of good colour and soft texture. Pleasing expression with a lovely dark eye, and neat ears. Enough length of neck and depth of chest. Level topline and good tail set. Nice rear assembly. Moved ok, but I would have preferred a little more reach and drive.
OD (3)
1. Taylor’s Ch. Eblanahalls Silkbeard At Raisingsands. A 5-year-old, balanced dog who stands four-square and proud with a beautifully textured jacket of loose curls and pleasing colour. Strong, masculine head, with excellent length of neck and strong front assembly. Level topline which he held on the move, and tail set on top. Good rear angulation. Moved with reach and drive. Pushed hard in the challenge and very pleased to award him the RDCC.
2. Satherley’s Silkcroft Shake It Off JW. A compact, square dog with coat of good texture and colour, though I would have preferred a little more wave. Pleasing head with dark eyes and neat ears. Good length of neck and front assembly. Level topline, held on the move well, and good tailset. Enough rear angulation. Moved with good reach and drive once he settled.
3. Satherley’s Ch. Silkcroft Game Changer.
VD (2:1)
1. Dowdy’s Ch. Greentree Gold Mombo To Denzilly (Imp USA). It is five years since I last judged this dog as a youngster. He impressed me then and still does now age 7. A true showman and beautiful example of the breed. He is the ideal size for me and stands square and compact, with a coat of soft texture, loose wave, and beautiful colour. Head is masculine though not coarse in anyway. Great expression. Dark eye and neat small ears. Strong neck into good shoulder placement. Straight front and good depth of chest. Muscular, level topline, with tail bang on. Rear assembly good and strong. Moved with ease and confidence, showing excellent reach and drive, holding his topline well on the move. Delighted to award him DCC, BV and BOB.

Two quite different puppies in this class - both very feminine and much to like about them both.
1. Lui’s Eblanahalls Kiss Curl. A 7-month-old bitch, whose coat is of good texture, and waves developing nicely. Slightly heavier type in appearance and longer cast than the other girl in the class, but still well balanced. Strong feminine head, with nice eye and beautiful mouth and teeth. Straight front excellent depth of chest, level topline and good tailset. Moved ok.
2. Francis’ Sawheaten Just One Kiss (AI). Very feminine 8-month-old bitch puppy. Finer type than 1 and squarer in profile. Coat of good colour and texture. Excellent length of neck flowing into well laid shoulder. Good depth of chest. Level topline and tailset ok. Nice bend of stifle. Unsettled on the move today, probably due to the heat, which sadly let her down.

1. Satherley, Satherley & Billingham’s Silkcroft Fortune & Glory. Compact, square 11-month-old bitch with coat of both good texture and colour. Lovely feminine head and expression. Well put together with good shoulder placement and straight front; level topline; rear angulation good. Moved well around the ring. A lot to like about this young lady and one to watch for the future. She impressed me enough to award her the RBCC, PB & BJ.
2. Tilley’s Brynhir Born To Boogie At Starzak. 17-month-old. Nice size and shape. Coat with pleasing waves and colour coming through nicely. Lovely head with happy expression. Nice eye and small ears. Excellent length of neck and good shoulder placement. Good depth of chest. Level topline and good tailset carried well on the move. Although she moved out well, I just preferred the overall movement of 1 on the day.
3. Lui’s Eblanahalls Kiss Curl.
YB (3)
1. Shrive’s Clanhanna Reet Petite (AI). Neat compact bitch with a feminine head, dark eye and good mouth. Nice texture to coat which is maturing well. Good length of neck and front assembly with plenty depth of chest. Top line level and tailset ok. Good rear angulation. Moved well around the ring.
2. Thoburn’s Northridge Hold Your Horses. Nice size of bitch with lovely coat for both texture and colour. Pretty head with nice ears. Excellent length of neck and well put together in front. Good rear angulation. Once she got going, the movement was good, but I preferred the movement of 1 overall.
3. Banbury, Marsh & Lui’s Eblanahalls Somers Isle.
PGB (3)
1. Lui’s Eblanahalls Gold Limerence JW. Smaller sized, well-balanced bitch with a lovely coat for colour and texture. Feminine head with neat small ears. Great mouth with big teeth and good bite. Good neck & shoulder. Straight front. Good topline, excellent tailset, and showing good rear angulation. Moved easily, showing some reach and drive.
2. Ward’s Denzilly I Put A Spell On you. Nice sized, well-balanced bitch. Coat good for texture and colour. Good neck and front all round. Level topline and tailset ok. Would have preferred a little more rear angulation. Moved well showing enough reach and drive.
3. Hammond & Evans’ Calvenace Ruby Tuesday.
LB (3)
1. Thoburn’s Northridge Galway Girl. Nice size of bitch with coat of good colour and plenty wave. Pleasing head. Good front and rear assemblies. Level topline held on the move, where she showed good movement with plenty reach and drive.
2. Hammond & Evans’ Calvenace Super Trouper. Bitch of nice size, well balanced in outline. Coat had the right texture and wave. Feminine head with cheeky, terrier expression. Excellent length of neck and straight front. Good rear angulation. Moved ok but preferred movement of 1.
3. Black & White’s Celtannia Madamex At Mayurasana.
OB (7:1)
The biggest and probably most difficult class of the day to judge. On any other day, places could easily have changed as this was a quality class.
1. Paton’s Ch. Denzilly Raspberry Beret. A strong, compact yet feminine bitch who showed herself well on the day. Excellent coat for both colour and texture. Great head, with good mouth and neat small ears. Good length of neck and lay of shoulder, straight front and depth of chest. Strong muscular, level topline. Tailset spot on, and well angulated rear. She moved like she owned the ring and showed plenty reach and drive. Very pleased to award her the BCC today. (I note she is the daughter of the DCC/BOB today – you can see his stamp in her.)
2. Satherley’s Silkcroft Wildest Dreams. Nice sized bitch with good shape and balance. Coat of good texture. Pleasing feminine head and good earset. Excellent length of neck. Good front and rear assemblies. Level on top and good tailset. She moved well around the ring but didn’t have quite the same amount of reach and drive as 1.
3. Francis’ Sawheaten Kiss From A Rose.
VB (1)
1. Lui’s Thistlebe Them There Eyes At Eblanahalls ShCM ShCex VW. This little bitch is proof of the longevity of this breed, as she is still showing well at 10 years young. Small, well-balanced bitch, with a lovely feminine head topped off with neat ears. Great length of neck. Straight front, level on top and good tailset. Still has enough rear angulation. Moved well around the ring and enjoying herself.
