SOFT COATED WHEATEN JUDGE BORDER UNION 17

SOFT COATED WHEATEN TERRIER

Judge: DR PHILLIPPA PEARSON (PIPPAJAM)

Thank you to the Border Union committee for inviting me to judge, the show was very well organised, the hospitality excellent and they even booked some fantastic weather! This was my first time giving CC's in the breed - thank you to all exhibitors for their entry, I thoroughly enjoyed my day. I was very pleased with the overall quality of the entry. Mouths are improving, movement on the whole was very good but there were a few issues with close movement behind and low tailsets.

JD (2)

1. Johnson's Garsayno Gold Kipling. Nice sized, well balanced dog with good head, pleasing depth of chest and level topline. Coat still has some maturing to do as expected at this age. Moved well.

2. Lui's Eblanahalls Aye Right. Taller than 1, well presented with a correct, silky coat. Lots to like but lost out on movement; moving close behind. Handled well.

PGD (4)

1. Tilley's Janeyjimjams Jubilee Star At Starzak. Lots to like about this young man. Good head and mouth, ears well set, giving him a lovely expression, pleasing reach of neck, well proportioned with a level topline and well set tail. Moved well.

2. Pascoe's Calvenace My Sweet Lord For Middlebury. Close between 1 and 2, just preferred the movement of 1, something in the grass seemed to be distracting a few dogs today. Again lots to like with many of the same attributes as 1.

3. McFerran's Kirktonhill Cara Dilis.

LD (2)

1. Moles & Williams's Celtannia Extra Suave. Soundly constructed with an excellent outline; good head, good reach of neck, level topline, well coupled with a good tailset. Correct coat, colour coming, just needs to finish maturing and I would just have liked to have seen a bit more of it with regards to length. Moves with drive and purpose. Well presented and handled. One to watch for the future.

2. Mackenzie's Kirktonhill Rumour Has It SHCM. Well presented dog with a pleasing outline. Didn't move as well as I think he could today.

OD (7,1)

really strong class.

1. Fallon's CH Janeyjimjams Jenson JW SHCM. One I have judged before and he didn't disappoint me today. Well balanced dog with good head, excellent reach of neck, level topline & good tailset. Correct coat texture and colour. Moved with drive and purpose. Well presented and handled. Delighted to award him the CC today.

2. Howe's CH Daisymaes Enforcer. Pushed hard for the top spot but just preferred the movement of 1. Many of the same attributes of 1, square outline with good reach of neck, level topline & excellent tailset. Good mouth. Correct coat. Pleased to award him the RCC.

3. Olesya's Angel's Charli Firm Favourite.

PB (1)

1. Jones' Saffini Suga Pie Honey Bunch. At 11 months old she is still full of mischief and personality which just added to her appeal. Lovely head and expression, well constructed, level topline, correct tailset. Pleasing coat for age. When settled she moved well. Look forward to seeing how she matures. BPIB, delighted she went on to take PG4.

JB (1)

1. Macaulay's Keridown All Night Long. Lovely natured young lady of just 13 months but quite a fidget and unused to being in the ring. Some maturing still to do, especially in coat but that's to be expected at this age. Moved ok but there was definitely more to give, hopefully handler and charge will grow in confidence with experience.

NB (1)

1. Fallon's Janeyjimjams Jubilee Jewel For Justjenson. There is a lot to like about this soundly constructed young lady. Feminine head with great expression. Moved freely and with attitude. Lovely Irish coat which has still got some maturing to do but it is coming, will look forward to seeing how she turns out.

PGB (3)

1. Satherley's Silkcroft Auroras Encore JW. Lovely, well made feminine bitch. Pleasing head, sound construction. Well presented and moved well. Coat maturing well. Everything as it should be, might just have preferred a bit more of her.

2. Roger's Kizzahla Kiss And Tell. Well balanced with well laid shoulders and level topline. Well presented, correct coat with good colour. Very close between 1 and 2, came down to movement.

3. McIntyre's Thistlebe Imperial Topaz

LB (5)

1. William's Celtannia Extra Chic. Took my eye from the moment she entered the ring. I was hoping to find something special today and she certainly was it! So much to like, she's got a solid construction and full of wheaten character. Good head, lovely wheaten expression, good reach of neck, well sprung ribs, level topline which she kept on the move, correct tailset. A real pleasure to watch her move, she's got excellent reach and drive. Very well handled. Delighted to award her the BCC & BOB.

2. Wright's Kariskiye Tip Top Too Ticky To Abbeymead. Another quality exhibit. Well presented, correct coat/ colour. Sound construction; good sized head with well set ears. Didn't move as well as I think she could, another one affected by smells on the floor?

3. Howe's Flaxela New Vision At Daisymaes.

OB (5,1)

Another very strong class.

1. Clarke's Flaxela Weaver Of Dreams JW SHCM. Well turned out and handled. Correct coat, loosely waved, would have preferred just a little more colour – but good to see lots of it, coat lacking on so many today. Lovely feminine head, superb mouth - one of the best of the day. Sound construction. Moved well. Pleased to award her the RCC, pushed hard for the CC but preferred the movement of the winner.

2. Roger's CH Kizzahla Dreamsicle. Pushed hard for the top spot. Well made, good sized head with well set ears, well sprung ribs, level topline held on the move and correct tail set. Well presented coat and moved very well.

3. Satherley's Silkcroft Sky Full Of Stars SHCM IR J CH

VB (4,1)

A lovely class and all were a real credit to the breed.

1. Tilley's Starzak Solid Gold Ez Action JW SHCM. 9 years old and still at her best. Feminine head, lovely expression. Correct coat, would just have liked a bit more colour. Moved well. A pleasure to award her BVIB.

2. Pascoe's Middlebury Silver Lady. Almost 11 years old and no showing no signs of slowing down. She was really enjoying her day out and was definitely wanting everyone to know about it! Soundly construction and that showed in her movement. She covered the ring with purpose and enthusiasm, the strong bond between her and her handler very evident.

3. Creswick's Kanjuley Katie Scarlett.
