SOFT COATED WHEATEN JUDGE CITY OF BIRMINGHAM 15

Soft-coated Wheaten Terriers

I was asked to take over Kay Aspin’s entry on the morning of the show, & wish her a speedy return to full health. Always fun to be among the Wheatens, especially when a few decide they want a cuddle. I am conscious that this was not my entry & so don’t want to make many general comments. I would just say that some mouths were a little borderline & pigment could have been better on a few.

PD (2,1a)

1 Moles & Williams’ Celtannia Extra Suave, very promising pup, full of bounce & fun. Quite well balanced head with very good pigment. Lengthy neck. Well balanced in his angulation. Can just settle in topline. Very well muscled up. Super coat. Moved very well.

JD (3,1)

1 Meister & Brooks’ Silkcroft Crests Of Waves, has a very typical outline. Lengthy head, very slightly dish faced. Very good mouth. Big black nose. Lengthy neck. Fair front. Liked his body, firm in topline. Well angulated rear with low hocks. Accurate out & back, could have a little more stride. Soft & silky coat;

2 Catlow’s Flaxela Too Fast For Love at Justjingo, not very happy, did just enough on move. Rather narrow all through as yet. Quite good angulation. Level topline. Head needs a bit more width.

PGD (4,2)

1 S Crests Of Waves;

2 F Too Fast For Love at J.

LD (6,1)

1 Revis’ Tiareko Niflheim's Wizard, very good moving dog. Liked his head, correct width & proportions with a lovely eye & expression. Lengthy neck. Well balanced angulation. Just needs a little more width of body all through. Well let down hocks. Correct coat & texture. RCC;

2 Williams’ Snowmeadow Peregrine Piper, liked this dog very much, not quite the head of 1, he is slightly too rounded in the skull. Liked his coat & he is a very good mover. Tends to stand with his rear rather too under him. Topline is ok. Liked his width;

3 Thoburn’s Northridge Gotan Go.

OD (9)

Very interesting class & quite a mix of types. I reduced the class to 5 for a final move & sadly one I liked very much started to favour a hind leg.

1 Johnstone’s Whitevale Motorway Madness at Rouxboos, thought him a very typical dog. Very good head. Lovely eye & pigment. Lengthy neck. Well laid shoulder. Well bodied. Correct topline. Quite well angulated rear. Could be a little tidier out & back but very good in profile. Soft coat with nice loose curls. CC;

2 Hanna’s Kinaelan Finlandia Finnian, very typy dog with a correct coat. Masculine head. Strong neck. Not quite shoulder of 1. Firm topline. Well set tail. Rear angulation balances his front. Could be better going away but goes with an easy stride;

3 Gent’s Lyntonlepraz Darbello Lad.

GCD (0).

PB (5,1)

Very good class, I thought they all showed a lot of promise, just at different stages.

1 Barrett’s Saffini Sugar And Spice, really lovely bitch. She is really well made. Lovely head. Super eye & pigment. Lengthy neck. Well off for body. Soft coat. Moves very well & full of fun. Must easily get her title. RCC & BP;

2 Hanna’s Celtannia Extra Confident at Kinaelan, this bitch has a super coat & fantastic pigment. Feminine in head. Good neck. Liked her front. Can firm in her topline & drop slightly in her rear angulation. Has an accurate & lengthy stride & full of character;

3 Johnstone’s Loofahsa Fiamma Rouxboos.

JB (4,1)

1 Gent & Lees’ Flaxela My Secret Love, very well made bitch who is a good mover. Hopefully her colour will improve. Very good head. Enough neck. Well laid shoulder, a little steep in upper arm. Well bodied. Well set tail. Rear angulation matches her front very well. Super pigment;

2 Satherley’s Silkcroft Sky Full Of Stars, like her outline. Muzzle is just a little too pointed & needs more width. Well set ears. Very good pigment. Lengthy neck. Not quite the front of 1. Liked her body, well sprung ribs with a short loin. Well set tail. Well bent stifle. Good coat;

3 Bott’s Whitevale Sweet Butterfly.

PGB (6,1)

1 Thoburn’s Northridge Who Are You, liked her shape, rather naughty on the first circuit wanting to play but very sound when she settled. Liked her well balanced head. Lengthy neck. Quite a good front. Firm topline. Well sprung ribs. Well bent stifle with low hocks. Excellent coat;

2 Shrive’s Emalot Santa Maria, earnt this place on her very good movement. Not quite the head & eye of 1. Ears could be better. Strong neck. Fair front. Well sprung ribs. Enough hind angulation with a well set tail. Nice coat texture;

3 Johnson’s Garsaynogold Julia.

LB (9)

Lots of compromises in this class.

1 Busby’s Calvenace Minnie Ha-ha at Zakby, she has a super outline & is so very good in profile action. Fem head with just enough strength. Very good eyes & pigment. Enough neck. Well laid shoulder. Good spring of ribs. Strong topline with a well set tail. Good rear. Could be tidier out & back. Liked her warm colour, but coat could be a slightly better texture. Handled to get every ounce out of her;

2 Escott’s Sidereal's Essence Of Time, she is a very typy bitch, well balanced fem head with correct proportions. Would prefer better pigment. Lengthy neck. Fair front. Holds a very good topline. Well sprung in ribs. Quite a good rear. Coat OK;

3 Satherley’s Silkcroft World Explorer.

OB (8,2)

1 Revis’ Garsayno Gold Gemma, really lovely bitch who won today with a bit to spare. Lovely proportions. She has a fem head, very well balanced with enough width & strength. Super pigment. Strong neck. Well made front & rear. very good spring of ribs. Level topline. Easy mover with a lengthy stride. Was interesting to see that I gave her sire a CC. CC & BOB;

2 Moles & Williams’ Kinaelan Cachique at Celtannia, earnt this place on her excellent movement in profile. She is just a tad long in back & colour could be clearer on her muzzle. Not quite the lovely head of winner, but it has width of skull without coarseness. Super ears & darkest of pigment. Correct neck. Well angulated. Liked her loose coat, colour & texture;

3 Satherley’s Ch Silkcroft Colour Of Magic.

GCB (1)

1 Busby’s Calvenace Killer Queen at Zakby, feminine bitch. Liked her pigment & coat. Lengthy neck. Just a bit too moderate in angulation & topline could be better. Having fun & full of character.
