SOFT COATED WHEATEN JUDGE DARLINGTON 14

Soft-coated Wheaten Terriers

I enjoyed my morning with the Wheatens & was very pleased with the entry, both numerically & for quality. When I was showing & I’m rather afraid to look up how long ago it was, movement was not good, mouths were mixed & presentation varied. Very few crossed, only a couple of tight bites & presentation is now much more even. All dogs were clean & well groomed. I felt a few had been trimmed a little too short, which rather lead to a straight coat rather than the wave there should be, although in most cases the wave was evident where the hair was left a bit longer. Most were really well muscled up. Pigment could have been better in some. I do regard the big black nose as very much part of the breed, along with dark eye rims. A well pigmented Wheaten with the correct eye colour has a most beautiful expression. Temperaments were excellent. The puppies were bouncy & wriggled a lot, just as they should. Quite a few jumped up to play. The breed is supposed to be full of fun & should never be a dull, stuffed toy with no animation. Without doubt the breed is in good hands & moving in the right direction.

VD (1)

1 Glew’s Wentloog Mozambique at Braelochyen, very nice type dog, with a lovely texture to his coat, although could be longer. Has a masculine head, good eyes. Lengthy neck. Well laid shoulder. Rather broad in chest. Well ribbed back. Level topline with well set on tail. Well bent stifle & low hock. Accurate out & back, could just have a little more stride.

MPD (1) A.

PD (2)

Two very naughty pups.

1 Johnsony’s Kinaelan Halsey, liked the type of this dog & has the better coat texture, although rather short. Lengthy head, a bit too much stop. Good neck. Has the better front of these two, but not so good in rear. Well bodied. Goes close away;

2 Walklin’s Kellynack Va Va Voltaire, liked his head very much, although he is slightly narrow in underjaw. Good neck. Can be tidier in front action. Level topline. Well set tail. In super muscle.

JD (3,2a)

1 Revis’ Tiareko Niflheim's Wizard, he has a very good head, although would prefer stronger pigment to nose & eye rims. Dark eyes. Neat, well set ears. Lengthy neck. Well laid shoulder. Upper arm could have more angle. Well sprung ribs. He is too long in back & loin with too much hind angulation, however he is so well muscled up his hind action is quite good. High set tail. Soft coat.

PGD (1)

1 McIntyre’s Thistlebe Mr Bojangles, lots to like about this very good moving dog. He has a masculine head, correct length muzzle, liked his width of skull. Eyes could be slightly darker. Lengthy neck, well laid shoulder. Level topline. Could be shorter in loin & would like a little more spring of rib. Enough hind angulation. He has a lovely silky coat, but it could be longer as very little wave & would like a slightly richer colour.

LD (5)

1 Thoburn’s Northridge Gotan Go, really good dog. He has a super head, just right for length, proportion & width. Big black nose. Lengthy neck. Has a very good front assembly. Well sprung ribs. Would like him a bit shorter in loin. Well set & carried tail. Enough hind angulation. He is an easy mover – light, long, low stride. Would like coat just a bit softer. RCC;

2 Howes’ Daisymaes Enforcer, thought him a very good type, with correct coat & waves. Not quite the head of 1, but it has correct width & lovely pigment. Long neck. Good shoulder. Well ribbed. Level topline. Doesn’t use his hind angulation as well as 1;

3 Walklin’s Kellynack The Pied Piper.

OD (5)

Good to have such an even class for type & coat. Movement helped sort them.

1 Fallon’s Ch Janeyjimjams Jenson, super dog, who outmoved the rest today, he is accurate out & back & goes with a long, low stride. He is ever so slightly dished in his muzzle, apart from that he has a grand head. Big, black nose. Correct neck. Best shoulder in class. Enough return of upper arm. Correct length back. Level topline. Well set tail. Correct hind angulation & low hocks. Soft & silky coat with wave. CC & BOB;

2 Clarke’s Loofahsa Scaramouche, lots to admire about this dog, especially his head & pigment. Strong neck. Perhaps just a bit too much body & could be a fraction shorter. Well made front. Level topline. Well set & carried tail. Liked his hind angulation & low hocks. Movement took him to 2;

3 Howes’ Daisymaes Desmond Decker.

VB (1)

1 Charleton’s Snowmeadow Janeyjimjams with Showadiwadi, what a grand old lady. Super for type & a very good coat, silky with wave. Liked her feminine head, lovely dark hazel eyes. Good neck & shoulder. A fraction long & tail could be a tad higher set. Well made rear. Accurate on the move, maybe not the drive she might have had before reaching double figures, a really super girl. BV.

MPB (2)

1 Thoburn’s Northridge Who Are You, really delightful pup, rather bouncy but that is great at her age. She has a super head, just right for balance. Big, black nose. Good neck. Well made front. Correct length. Well made rear. Just a bit loose in front, but that should come right. Is really promising & high quality. Probably nothing I would change at this age, if she matures as she could then I’m sure will do lots of winning. BP & the one I would have taken home;

2 Satherley’s Silkcroft Sky Full Of Stars, she is very much a baby & needs to develop in head & bone, but she is so very well made & a good mover. Super temperament. Liked her overall shape. Coat rather straight, but just a baby.

PB (2)

1 Satherley’s Silkcroft World Explorer, very promising bitch. She has the most beautiful eyes, just the right colour giving a lovely, typical expression. Feminine all through. Lengthy neck. She has a well made front. Just slightly shorter in back than 2. At the moment she is slightly up at the rear, but this can sort itself. Uses her rear very well correct coat texture;

2 Johnson’s Garsaynogold Julia, she also has a very good head with lovely eye & expression. Correct neck. Well made in front. Good spring of rib. Needs to firm up at the rear, just a bit loose in hock & has a tendency to drop her tail.

JB (3)

These three bitches all show lots of promise.

1 Macgregor’s Kirktonhill What I Believe, she is such a good mover, long strides with tail & head up, full of fun. Liked her head for balance & width, but eyes are very light. Good neck. Quite a well laid shoulder. Chest to her elbow. Correct length of back. Well made rear. Has a very silky coat;

2 Hammond & Evans’ Calvenace Kichi, liked her head & super eye & expression. Good neck. Best lay of shoulder in class. Her topline could be better, just a tendency to arch & her tail is slightly low set. Well made rear. Uses her rear better than

3 Hammond & Evans’ Calvenace Jacala.

PGB (5)

Quite a difficult class, rather mixed for type.

1 Brooks’ Loofahsa Hip Hop, she has a very good profile action. Covering the ground easily, although she could be tidier out & back. Has a very well balanced feminine head, but her teeth could be cleaner. Good neck. Best shoulder in the class. Holds a firm topline. Well made rear. Coat has just enough wave, left longer it would be better;

2 Stevens’ Starcadia Olympic Diva, lots of good things about this bitch who is at the bottom end of the size scale. She has a feminine head, correct balance of muzzle & skull. Good neck. Shoulder not as well laid as 1 & she could be firmer at the elbow. Well bodied. Low hocks. Liked the wave in her coat;

3 Pattinson Brealochyen Cora Sun Drop.

LB (9)

1 Salisbury & Kehoe’s Killeshin Libaneire, this very typy bitch is in super hard condition. She has a feminine head of correct balance. Super pigment. Lengthy neck. Shoulders could be very slightly better set. She is more compact than 2. Firm & level in topline. Enough hind angulation with low hocks. Good mover. Liked her loose curls & silky texture coat. Very easy mover;

2 Revis’ Garsayno Gold Gemma, this bitch is very similar to 1, she was just slightly longer cast. Liked her feminine head, maybe needs just a little more length to it. Enough neck. Slightly better shoulder than 1. Grand body. She too is so very well muscled. Liked her coat, lovely waves, texture & enough colour. Also went well in profile;

3 Walklin, Phillips & Gullick’s Jaeva Orange Blossom.

OB (12,1)

What a super class to judge, plenty of quality. Would have been happy to sign a CC for all those placed & some of those that weren’t.

1 Clarke’s Ch Calvenace Fat Bottomed Girl, she is a very well made bitch, who put all in when it mattered. Super head with the blackest of pigment. Liked her length of neck. Well laid shoulder. Liked her body. Holds a firm topline with well set tail. Well bent stifle & low in hock. Could be slightly tidier in front action. Uses her rear so very well & went well in profile, easy gait with head & tail held high. CC;

2 Dowdy’s Ch Denzilly Toot Sweet, she is a super bitch with a lovely texture coat. Carrying just a bit too much bodyweight & not quite the animation of 1 when it mattered. I liked her head, dark pigment with a big black nose. Lengthy neck. Good front. Maybe could be tighter in elbow. Firm topline with well set tail. Correct outline. Well made in rear. RCC;

3 Munn’s Snowmeadow Peggy Phurrari.
