SOFT COATED WHEATEN JUDGE DARLINGTON 23

Although a smaller entry than I have received in the past, not unsurprising in the present climate but one that was full of quality & consistency which was pleasing to see but made for tight decisions. Dentition & heads were good. I found some exhibits short in rib & long in loin & a few light in frame. Handling skills were a bit variable & good handling does mean you move your dog to its best advantage & at the right speed. One young handler did not place in her class. For those watching ringside will know, I spoke to her before she left the ring to congratulate her on her exemplary handling. We could all certainly learn from this young lady!

1 Dowdy’s Ch Greentree Gold Mombo to Denzilly (Imp USA) Much to like. Quality compact male of correct size. Good angles creating balanced profile. Masculine head & muzzle without coarseness. Correct dentition. Dark hazell eye. Enough neck. Good layback and ribs. Short loin. Steady moving both ways. A smart boy. Just wished I had another couple of CC’s to give out. Best Veteran & Veteran Group 4. Well deserved & congratulations.

2 Lui’s Eblanahalls Eye Right. Upstanding male in good muscular condition with strong hindquarters. Nice natural coat with a clear Wheaten hue. Strong through head and a tad longer in muzzle than ideal. Good bite. Good length to neck. Just a bit longer in body and loin than 1. Moved out ok.

PD (1)

1 Dunhill-Halls Arkenstone Thorin King Under The Mountain Fantasa (Imp ICL) Alert young male, on his toes, with a great terrier expression & pizazz. Beautiful head with strong muzzle. Plenty of neck with graceful arch. Good angles, good through ribs and strong loin. He is well balanced overall just typically at this age of correct coat development for his type looks a bit long and leggy. Promising coat. Moved out with good reach & drive. BP & Puppy Group

2. Congratulations. One I will watch with interest.

OD (2)

1 Charleton’s House of Softy Indus (Imp Swe). Top quality masculine & muscular male with good angles giving him a balanced profile. Good for bone. Mature coated dog with plenty of natural wave & exhibited with enough length to coat to show off that asset. Strong head & muzzle. Correct dentition. Dark hazel eye. Good through body & ribs. Deep chest. Good set on. Correct tail carriage. Moved out soundly with good reach & drive. CC./BOS.

2 Clarke’s Flaxela Illuminati (Ai) Another sound and top quality young male who was pleasing to go over. Good head to muzzle proportions, strong muzzle. Correct dentition. Enough neck to well laid shoulders. Compact through body. Muscular. Good set on & hind angulation. Finished with a pleasing coat with a nice Wheaten hue. Close decision with 1 as both high quality males. This boy will benefit with another year under his belt for maturity both in the body & coat. RCC.

1 Lui’s Thistlebe Them There Eyes at Eblanahalls. Lovely bitch of correct size wearing her 10.5 years well. Full of energy today & moved out well holding her topline well and good tail carriage. Good bite. Strong but feminine in muzzle. Lovely coat colour with nice wave. Good angles giving a balanced profile. Was a like narrow in chest but maybe is losing some muscle definition with age. Otherwise in good condition all round.

PB (4,1)

Three very promising young ladies, a tight decision between all three.

1 Dowdy’s Denzilly Waking the Witch (Ai) Nicely sized girl who stood four square with nice overall balance although immature at the moment as only a baby. Nice angles. Enough neck. Compact through body. Good tailset. Lovely typical expression. Moved soundly.

2 Lui’s Eblanahalls Kiss Curl. Another promising puppy with much to admire. Strong head. Good bite. Longer through body & loin than 1 but otherwise pleasing profile. Carries herself well with good drive behind. Just had a slight tendency to hackney in front today. Coat is a little dense & straight at the moment. I did wonder if she had been blow dried.

3 Raisingsands Girl in Amber (AI).

JB (1)

1 Hughlock’s Keevasdream Ballerina Blue. 17 month old feminine bitch who really catches the eye. Alert, active with a lovely expression. Correct bite, good head and ears, elegant neck , good angulation front & rear, strong hindquarters, well ribbed, good set on. Correct silky coat with colour coming through and already showing a sheen. Moved true out & back with drive & free easy gait.

PGB (3)

Another three nice girls at the ‘in-betweeny’ maturity stage!

1 Munn’s Snowmeadow Treacle Toffee. A lovely bitch of correct size & pleasing balanced overall shape. Good expression. Strong muzzle. Good head to muzzle proportions. Small well set ears. Compact enough, good ribs, short loin. Good layback. At 20m has a promising coat albeit a little pale typically at this age. Moved well straight out & back with fluid reach & drive so typical of this Kennel.

2 Thoburn’s Northridge Hold Your Horses. 21m old bitch, presenting a compact & square outline. Could do with a bit more depth to chest but this will come with maturity. Pleasing head. Nice length of neck into well laid shoulders. Good through ribs, topline & tailset. Good colour & wave coming through on coat. Moved out soundly with good reach & drive.

3 Tilley’s Brynhir Born to Boogie at Starzak JW.

LB (6)

1 Satherley’s Silkcroft Place Your Bets. 3 years old up to size but presents a square balanced outline. Short coupled with good angles front & rear. Nice length to neck. Good head planes with strength but feminine. Moved out well & straight going and coming. Would like more colour & better texture/wave to the coat.

2 Lawrence’s Surreygold Celtan Musetta. A frustrating girl to go over because she would rather you didn’t! What a pity although I felt enough of her. Just coming up to 3 years. Nice shape & make & balanced outline. Spot on for size. Good in head and angles. Well muscled. Fluid & easy mover. Her crowning glory is her fully correct coat carrying a beautiful wave & sheen with a mild hue of colour.

3 Bradford’s Bonney Abiqua Wild Desert Whispers (Imp USA).

OB (6,2)

1 Munn’s Snowmeadow Suzy Sixpence. Lovely, balanced super bitch with a classic outline & typical Wheaten expression. Great head, broad skull, strong jaw & muzzle. Elegant neck into well laid shoulders. Well ribbed, strong loin & topline. Well muscled. Plenty of bone. Strong hocks. Correct coat with wave & enough colour with the hint of ripening wheat. Beautifully presented with the correct length of coat to show off its assets. Her breed traits topped off with her easy, fluid movement showing great natural, balanced, effortless reach & drive without being ‘flashy’. A true Wheaten. CC/BOB.

2 Barrett’s Saffini The Sweetest Taboo. 2 year old, younger bitch who has much to admire but just lacking the maturity of 1 today. Slightly lighter framed than 1 but presents a square & balanced profile with enough bone to do her job . Good shoulders, ribs, loin & topline. Typical expression. Small well set ears. Carries correct textured & wavy coat. Honest, unexaggerated mover. Will benefit from maturing/filling out over the next year.

3 Satherley’s Silkcroft Never Miss A Beat
