SOFT COATED WHEATEN JUDGE DRIFFIELD 13

Soft Coated Wheaten Terriers

It is always a pleasure to judge this breed, my thanks to the exhibitors for their enthusiasm. I was pleased that mouths in the breed have improved so much over the years. I was disappointed in shoulders however, and many fronts could have been tighter. The trimming debate aside coat texture is an integral part of the breed, today I found a few coats that were anything but soft. My top winners were all a delight on the move, do not be fooled by flash and dash.

Puppy Dog (1)

1. Mapson’s Abiqua Wild Jack of Hearts, quality 9 month puppy, nice make and shape, still rather loose in front. A darker eye would have been in keeping.

Junior Dog (3) 1 abs

1. Bradford’s Abiqua Wild Casinoroyale, eye-catching top quality youngster, good head, reach of neck, compact, good ribs, well balanced throughout. Soft coat of good colour. Moved with drive and reach, showed non-stop. CC & BOB

2. Satherley & Gibbons’ Silkcroft No More Games, longer cast than winner and less pleasing shoulders. Still puppyish in movement which should improve with maturity.

Yearling Dog (2)

1. Thackray’s Abiqua Wild on Ace Trip, smart well made dog of correct size, good bend of stifle, moved with drive.

2. McIntyre’s Thistlebe Mr Bojangles, bigger dog lacking coat. Showed well enough but movement needs attention.

Limit Dog (5)

1. House’s Glendowan Tarquol, quality dog of correct size, good head, lovely spring of rib, powerful hindquarters. Silky textured coat.

2. Mapson’s Zaraslake Sirocco, lovely sized dog soundly made, good ribs. Moved with drive. Coat texture let him down.

3. Wright’s Kariskye Horrid Henry for Abbeymead

Open Dog (6) 2abs

1. Clarke’s Loofahsa Scaramouche, quality dog of correct size soundly made throughout, lovely coat and colour. Moved with drive and reach. Res CC

2. Evans-Barry’s Ir Ch Int Ch Hobel Joe O’Brien, quality dog of good size, sound construction, lovely coat that at 8yrs could teach some of the youngsters a thing or two. Moved and showed well.

3. Fallon’s Ch Janeyjimjams Jenson

Minor Puppy Bitch (1)

1. Ford’s Kanjuley Scarlet O’Hara, quality pup with lovely head, ears eyes and expression. Well made, good front. Rich coat of good texture. Moved well once settled. Best Puppy

Puppy Bitch (2)

1. Bradford’s Abiqua Wild Is All She Wrote, quality pup of correct size make and shape, another good front!

2. Hobson & Bradford’s Abiqua Wild Wrapped in Ivy, litter sister to winner and very little to choose between them, just preferred shoulders of winner

Junior Bitch(7) 2 abs

1. Jones’ Zaraslake Pumpkin Pie at Silverluka, quality bitch, lovely size soundly made, good ribs. Moved true to her construction. Not in her best coat today but when she is will trouble the best.

2. House’s Glendowan Kora, another quality bitch of correct make and shape, just a little loose in front at present. Silky coat that glistened in the sunlight!

3. Johnson’s Garsayno Gold Imp

Yearling Bitch (2)

1. Jones’ Zaraslake Pumpkin Pie at Silverluka

2. Naylor’s Amaricy I Won’t Back Down, nice sized bitch but lacking maturity, not enough rib development yet. Black still present in coat.

Post Graduate Bitch (1)

1. McIntyre’s Calvenace Cooley Thistle, soundly made correct sized bitch. Moved with drive, just a little sloppy in front.

Limit Bitch (7) 1 abs

1. Munn’s Snowmeadow Peggy Phurrari, quality bitch with lovely coat of good colour. Well made throughout. Showed well and moved with drive. Res CC.

2. Clarke’s Calvenace Fat Bottomed Girl, another quality bitch of sound construction. Moved and showed well, the winner had the edge in coat and colour.

3. Naylor’s Amaricy Femme Fatale

Open Bitch (8)

1. Rogers’ Kizzahla Dreamsicle, quality bitch with lovely bone. Shoulders and spring of rib did not disappoint. Balanced throughout. Glorious coat and colour. Moved effortlessly with drive. CC

2. Brown’s Chymidas Linel Stardancer at Carkbark, quality bitch of sound construction, another with pleasing shoulders. Good textured coat. Moved and showed well.

3. Pascoe’s Middlebury Silver Lady.
