SOFT COATED WHEATEN JUDGE EAST OF ENGLAND 23
My thanks to the Committee of the East of England show for the invitation to judge, to my two excellent Ring Stewards for their help and keeping things moving forward and to the exhibitors for allowing me to go over their beautiful dogs.
The standard in general was excellent but I feel there are a couple of points of the standard that need to be emphasised. Firstly, the coat clause calls for loose waves or curls that “flow and fall” and also states that over trimming or stylising should be penalised. We do not need or want “Blonde Kerries”.
The other clause that we need to remember is the measurement of body proportions and, in particular the length to height ratio. There appears to be trend towards shorter backs. Nowhere in the standard does it ask for short backs. Short coupling is required, a very different thing!
There were no entries in the early classes.
PGD (1)
1 Gent & Williams’ Calvenace House of Fun. Well balanced dog. Good head propertiesl well laid shoulder and balanced angulation front and rear. Moved well in profile and coming toward but slightly close behind at times. Stood alone but well deserved his placing.
LD (3
) 1 Clarke’s Flaxela Illuminati (ai). Excellent head, strong and masculine without coarseness. Well placed shoulder, level topline and good tailset. Well angulated quarters and moved with purpose RCC.
2 Hookway & Mason’s Denzilly Golden Compass. Balanced throughout with good head, shoulder and topline. Short coupled and well boned. Moved well but just preferred the slightly more free flowing movement of the first.
3 Herbert’s Saffini Smooth Operator at Julibidd.
OD (6)
Six super boys – so nice to see with the current low entries of males.
1 Charleton’s House of Softy Indus (Imp Swe). Excellent head properties, strong, arched neck leading into well placed shoulders. Correct body proportions. Correct coat with wave and shine which moved with him. Moved with reach and drive and parallel coming and going. CC & BOB.
2 Clarke’s Ch Flaxela Perfect Storm (ai). A very difficult decision as so many virtues carried by this lovely boy and nearly all the above comments apply to him. I just preferred the coat and size of the winner on the day.
3 Satherley’s Silkcroft Shake It Off JW.
Res Hanna’s Kinaelan Kilmore.
VHC Taylor’s Ch Eblanahalls Silkbeard at Raisingsands.
VD (2)
1 Lui’s Eblanahalls Aye Right. A very good head, strong jaw and well set ears. Neck shoulders and topline all good. Well set and carried tail. A little close behind when moving. Correct coat. Stood freely on a loose lead with head and tail up.
2 Cooper’s Janeyjimjams Jubilee Juke. Such a well made dog with so much to like. Correctly constructed with a silky golden coat. Let himself down with his movement today.
MPB (3,1) 1 Lui’s Eblanahalls Kiss Curl. Very pretty feminine pup. Good head and correct earset giving typical expression. Well made throughout and moved well. Coat coming well for her age but a little more of it would have been to her advantage.
2 Taylor’s Raisingsands Girl in Amber. Just six months and giving away a lot in maturity but all essentials are in place. A lovely pup. Will her progress with interest.
PB (3,1) 1 Satherley & Billingham’s Silkcroft Fortune and Glory. Super pup. Lovely head and expression. Topline level with good tailset. Well angulated front and back giving
free flowing movement. Rather too stylised for me but could not deny her first place with her excellent construction.
2 Lui’s Eblanahalls Kiss Curl.
JB (3) 1 Tilley’s Brynhir Born to Boogie at Starzak. Balanced throughout. Very good head and typical expression. Strong neck into well laid shoulder giving good front angulation matching her correct angles in her quarters. Coat maturing nicely. Moved well with confidence.
2 Grant’s Dannebriel Me and My Girl (ai). Another very nice young girl. Good head and expression . Well angulated front and with level topline and well set tail. Moved well. Had to give way to first on maturity. Well presented.
3 Hughlock’s Keevasdream Ballerina Blue.
PGB (4,2)
1 Munn’s Snowmeadow Treacle Toffee. Balanced head with good pigment and
well set ears giving feminine expression. Correct angulation and body proportions. Moved out well.
2 Ward’s Denzilly I Put A Spell On You. A little bigger than the winner but still well proportioned. Good head and expression. Angles all good and excellent coat and colour Movement good in profile but not quite parallel coming and going as moving a little wide in front today.
LB (7,1)
1 Barrett’s Saffini The Sweetest Taboo. Very good head and expression, correct earset and pigment Topline level and and held on the move. Good angulation front and rear producing good parallel movement with reach and drive. Good coat but would have preferred a bit more of it.
2 Macgregor’s Kirktonhill A Touch of Snow ShCEx. A smaller bitch but very well constructed. Pretty feminine head, good neck and well laid shoulder. Level topline and strong well angulated quarters coat with wave and fall giving free parallel movement. All topped off with a correct coat with good colour and fall.

giving a real Terrier expression. Well made throughout with good angles front and rear giving free movement. Lovely silky coat with wave and shine and the required fall. Excellent Presentation BVIB
2 Hughlock’s Ch Janeyjimjams Jolene at Keevasdream VW. Almost nothing to chose
between these two girls. Both well constructed and both moved well. Both have good coat but of different types and in the end it came down to personal choice. I just preferred the silky shine of the Irish coat.
3 Lawrence’s Bel Ch Kinaelan Finlandia Gaia (ai).
