SOFT COATED WHEATEN JUDGE LKA 17

My Thanks to the Committee of the LKA for the invitation to judge this prestigious show and for the hospitality on the day. Thanks also to my excellent steward who kept things moving along as well as doing the paperwork. The weather decimated the good entry of 61 dogs but there were nevertheless some super dogs and worthy winners. My thanks to the exhibitors both those who were there and those who set out but had to turn back, not to mention those who believed the forecast and did what I would probably have done, and stayed in bed. I notice the fashion of leaving the hair on the top of the head and round the occiput in an apparent dome appears to be spreading. To me it hides a nice flat skull and makes the ears look low on the head. Both impressions quite the opposite of what the Standard asks for.

PD (4:2) .Wardle’s Denzilly He’s Got The Look. A delightful wriggly pup who eventually kept still enough to appreciate his many virtues. Good, clean head, well balanced. Good neck and shoulder placement leading to level topline and good tailset. Moved very well for a pup of his age.

2.Ward-Walker’s Eblanahall’s A Fine Half. Irish boy who is well constructed with good neck and shoulder. Good topline and sturdy body. Appears a little heavy in head at the moment but greater maturity and more coat may change this. His coat is correct for his age and type. His movement was very difficult to assess in this class..

PD (2:0)

1. Hanna’s Kinaelan Jixditti. Irish Coated boy who is maturing well. Good head, bite, eye and earset and strong neck into well laid shoulder. Level topline and tailset. Moved out well behind and in profile, a little loose and wide in front at the moment. BP

2. Ward – Walker’s Eblanahall’s A Fine Half.

JD (2:1)

1. Eblanahall’s A Fine Half. Much improved movement in this class. Went well fore and aft.

PGD (4:1)

1. Barrett’s Saffini Shining Star well constructed dog. Balanced head, good bite, eye and pigment. A strong neck into a well laid shoulder and good topline. Correct angulation fore and aft. Coat of good colour and texture. Moved out well in profile, a little close behind going away.

2. Lui’s Eblanahalls Right. Attractive head and expression with well carried ears, good bite, eye and pigment. Well angulated shoulder and front and level topline. Just preferred the rear angulation of the winner.

3. Quarrie’s Quaywest The Manxman.

LD (4:1)

1. Tilley’s Janeyjimjams Jubilee Star. A quality young dog with a lot going for him. Well made throughout, short coupled and well angulated front and back. Coat of good colour and texture and moved out with style. Was pleased to award him the RCC.

2. Moles and Williams’s Celtannia Extra Suave. Very similar to 1st in make and shape but a size bigger. Good, well balanced head, good neck, shoulder and topline. Well angulated rear and moved fluently. Just preferred the size and proportions of the winner

3. Quaywest The Manxman.

OD (7:6)

1 Dowdy’s Ch Greentree Gold Mombo To Denzilly. Stood alone but a very worthy winner. Balanced all through from his head to his well developed rear. Deep brisket and short coupled with a good texture and colour to his coat though would have preferred more wave. Moved round the ring as if he owned it. Great “Look at me” attitude gave him the CC and Best of Breed.

MPB (7:4)

1. Shears’s Denzilly Kinky Boots at Bearbay. Another wriggler, in fact a class full of wrigglers, just puppies being puppies. A well proportioned young girl. Balanced feminine head with good expression. Good neck into well laid shoulder and level topline. Short coupled with well set tail and correct angulation. A bit erratic on the move but sound.

2. Shrive’s Emalot Sweet Child O Mine. Good head with good bite and pigment. Well made front but could be shorter coupled and losing topline on the move but still a baby and a lot of maturing to go.

3. Lui’s Eblanahalls Fau Paws .

PB (4:3)

1.  Eblanahalls Fau Paws.  Attractive head, good bite, eye and pigment. Pleasing neck into level topline. Angulation balanced front and rear.  Irish coat developing well, shiny, silky and a good colour. Moved well in this class.

JB (3:1)

1Jones’s Saffini Suga Pie Honey Bunch. Attractive head and expression, good neck into well laid shoulder Compact short coupled body with correct angulation fore and aft. Coat of good colour and texture. Movement a bit erratic at times but basically good.

PGB (7:7)

LB (11:3)

1 Moles and Williams’s Celtannia Extra Chic. Presents a lovely , balanced outline with attractive feminine head, strong neck into well laid shoulder and level topline. Short coupled with well set tail and plenty behind it. Well angulated at both ends producing flowing movement. Nice texture and wave to coat RCC

2. Clarke’s Flaxela Everlasting Love Ir J Ch Lovely Irish coated girl. Well made throughout with good head, bite, eye and pigment. Angulation good and topline level. Super texture coat with loose curls and shine but would prefer a little more colour. Moved well.

3. Lui’s Thistlebe Them There Eyes at Eblanahalls.

OB (5:3)

1. Clarke’s Flaxela Weaver of Dreams. A lovely bitch that I judged as a puppy and now the mature girl. So well balanced and presenting a lovely picture. Feminine head, excellent neck, shoulder and topline and good angulation throughout. Short coupled with mature coat of good texture. Moved well both ways. Pleased to award her the CC.

2. Hanna’s Swed, Nor, Dan, Ir Ch Celtannia Extra Confident at Kinaelan. Another lovely bitch, very feminine and pretty and very well made with it. Good head, neck, shoulder, topline and tailset. Short coupled and moved well. Lovely Irish coat with silky texture and shine. Still has some maturing to do but will challenge the best before long.

VB (3:1)

1 Tilley’s Starzak Solid Gold E Z Action. Looking anything but a veteran. Lovely head, Balanced and feminine with good expression. Good neck into well laid shoulder and level topline. Well angulated front and rear which showed in her movement.
