SOFT COATED WHEATEN RICHMOND 16 Judge: Steve Howe (Sunnidayze) BEST OF BREED : 2260 DOWDY, Ms J I & DOWDY Mr G J Greentree Gold Mombo To Denzilly SOFT COATED WHEATEN JUDGE RICHMOND 16 Soft Coated Wheaten Terriers It was a pleasure to judge the breed again, I was extremely pleased with the overall quality which appears to have improved in recent years, mouths are a lot better, coats & colour are good, although the uneven ring made some movement difficult to assess. I was pleased to have several contenders for top honours, my final line-ups in both sexes being very strong & the fact that a couple of youngsters stood out does not detract from the quality at the higher end, but reflects on their own performance on the day. PD (2) 1 Dowdy’s Greentree Gold Mombo to Denzilly, wow what a pup, so well balanced, caught the eye right from the off, did everything right, moved a dream & couldn’t resist him in the challenge. Hope he goes on to be a real star. CC & BOB; 2 Tilley’s Janeyjimjams Jubilee Star at Starzak, 11 months & a very nice pup. Lovely head, good dentition, well laid shoulders. Nice size & shape, not quite the angulation of 1. JD (3) 1 Watkins’ Zaraslake Lucky Seven, another super young one, just a year, lovely square outline, great mouth, good head, straight front, well laid shoulder, level topline. Moved straight & true, could do with a bit more weight but that will come with maturity. RCC; 2 Cooper’s Janeyjimjams Jubilee Juke, good in head, mouth, neck & topline, not quite as steady on the move today. PGD (1) 1 Blandford’s Janeyjimjams Joshua, stood alone but worthy of his place, nice size & shape, good coat in colour & texture, moved well. LD (3) Very close between the first 2, both very attractive & should have a good future in the breed, uneven ground didn’t help but both moved smooth & free. 1 Meister & Brooks’ Silkcroft Crest Of Waves, just the better topline, well balanced boy, good in head, neck & shoulder, lovely coat; 2 Bristow’s Denzilly Sweet Destiny for Avard, very close, similar qualities, lovely coat in good colour, highly impressive on the move. OD (5,2a) 1 Johnstone’s Whitevale Motorway Madness at Rouxboos, another close decision, lovely outline typical of the breed, good for size, nice head, dark eye, short coupled, well angulated, moved well; 2 Thoburn’s Northridge Gotan Go, quality dog, good for size & shape. Correct dark eye & pigment, topline & tailset just as it should be. VB (2,1) 1 Bristow’s Kellynack Viva La Passione for Avard, at 8½ years in very nice condition, good outline, lovely coat, kept her shape whilst moving well. PB (3,1) 1 Gale’s Flaxala Drop Dead Gorgeous, very attractive young lady, developing well, everything in the right place, well balanced, looks good on the move, litter sister to junior winner; 2 Fallon’s Janeyjimjams Jubilee Jewel for Justjenson, little longer cast than 1 which with a youngster may be a growing phase, somewhat unsettled on the day. Should improve as she matures. JB (3) 1 Clarke’s Flaxela Weaver Of Dreams, several years ago the club committee spent many hours & much discussion redesigning the club logo in order to produce the outline of the “perfect Wheaten”. Today I saw that outline in the flesh! This young lady is stunning, fits the breed Standard to a T, & she moved very well, so much to commend, certainly one to watch. RCC; 2 Satherley’s Silkcroft Auroras Encore, smaller young lady, very nice but not so settled, good to look at & lots of potential. PGB (3) 1 Rogers’ Kissahlaa Kiss And Tell, maturing into a very attractive young lady, lovely coat, super texture & good colour, stood square, good topline & tailset, dark eye & pigment, smooth & steady on the move; 2 Johnstone’s Loofhas Fiamma Rouxboos, not yet the maturity, coat needs to develop, stood & moved well. LD (9,1) 1 Hill’s Janeyjimjams Jive Queen, headed a lovely strong class of quality girls. This one fitted the bill in all aspects, lovely coat, good neck & shoulder, attractive head, free & easy on the move; 2 Shrive’s Emalot Santa Maria, very close to 1, another well put together young lady who could easily take top place another day, a lot to like. OB (5) All quality & a class with much to think about. 1 Satherley’s Ch Silkcroft Colour Of Magic, have long admired this one & she has deservedly become a top winner, a lovely upstanding girl, the right size & shape, super coat & a very good mover. CC; 2 Munn’s Snowmeadow Peggy Phurrari, really lovely girl, really well balanced, beautiful coat, great mover, has improved greatly with age. STEVE HOWE |
