THE SOFT COATED WHEATEN TERRIER CLUB OF GB
DIAMOND JUBILEE OPEN SHOW – 19 SEPTEMBER 2015
I would like to thank the Officer's & Committee for their kind inviation to judge
their Open Show during their Diamond Jubilee Year. I would also like to thank
the exhibitor's for a lovely entry which I understand was a record entry and my
lovely stewards who keep things ticking along smoothly. The lunch provided was
excellent and a lovely spread for all to enjoy.
Judging was able to take place outside which made for a lovely atmosphere with
all the 'specials' on show in the sunshine. It was an inviation I was looking
forward to with great interest and one that I enjoyed very much and I
congratulate the Club on their Diamond Jubilee Year. It was also special to cut
the lovely celebration cake with the Presdent of the Club Mrs Judy Creswick.
Presentation overall was of a high standard and temprements througout were
excellent. I did however have a couple of concerns. I had hoped that mouths
had improved, sadly this was not the case, with old veterans you use your
discretion but in young dogs I feel this is a problem, in correct mouths are one of
the more difficult things to eradicate so breeding programmes should be done
with care. Hindquarters – lack of muscle tone, in particular in the second thigh
and lack of rear angulation, the breed standard does say “good bend of stfile”,
but that does not mean over angulated whereby the hocks are almost rubbing
together when moving, short stepping and shuffling is not 'moving with drive'.

JH 6-11Yrs, Channel Thackray, did not really have control of her exhibit at one
stage the dog pulled her over. Perhaps you can attend a local ringcraft where
you will gain more experience and able to bond with your dog so that you both
gain more confidence and control.
JH 12-16 Yrs (2) 1 & BH, Abigail Westerman, presented dog her well, but again
not so controlled on the move, was better when asked to do an inverted T which
was done correctly, 2, Orlagh Lui, rather rushed with her dog, need to be calmer
and have a connection with her dog whereby it will respond better,
