SOFT COATED WHEATEN JUDGE SOUTH WALES 18

My sincere thanks to the Officers and Committee members of South Wales Kennel Association for the invitation to judge my breed, awarding CCs for the first time. Thank you to all the exhibitors for their entries and my efficient and helpful stewards, Ian and Pauline Sidgwick . Several dogs were upright in shoulder therefore lacking reach in front and I also found a few lacking muscle tone .

Puppy Dog (1 )

1. Wright’s Abbeymead Stelline : Quality youngster who stood alone. Good size & body shape . A little apprehensive in the noisy hall, but moved well when settled. Liked his well balanced head with big black nose. Lovely coat colour and texture, good neck, shoulders and topline. Good body and rear with moderate angulation and low hocks.

Junior Dog (2 )

1. Moles’ & Williams’ Celtannia Atlantic Gold : Has a lot of ring presence, presents a square outline. Beautifully presented coat of good colour and texture. Masculine head. Moved ok, could move with a little more reach in front.

2. Mc Neilis’ Celtannia Atlantic Star : Litter brother to 1 at different stages of development. Rather unsettled in the ring. Moved ok. Good coat colour but not quite the quality of 1 , just needs time.

Post Graduate Dog (0)

Limit Dog (2,1)

1. Lui’s Eblanahalls Aye Right : 2 years old Irish type. Good head with alert terrier expression. Very fit and well muscled, great temperament. He has a super soft silky coat. On his toes, moved and showed with enthusiasm.

Open Dog (6,1)

A lovely class of quality dogs, all had positive attributes.

1.Johnstone’s Ch Whitevale Motorway Madness at Rouxboos : Masculine dog full of breed type and plenty of substance. Love this boys expression - so Wheaten ! Ideal for size, he has a lovely balanced head with good stop, correct scissor bite, hazel eyes, large black nose and well set ears. Beautiful soft coat of good rich colour and lovely loose waves. He has a nice reach of neck with excellent shoulders, deep chest, good topline , spring of rib and tailset and plenty behind the tail. He moved freely with good reach in front and excellent drive behind, holding a level topline with head and tail held high. Very well presented and handled. A very worthy DCC .

2. Moles’ & Williams’ Celtannia Extra Suave: Litter brother to BOB. A well balanced masculine dog with a pleasing head, good bite and pigmentation, strong muzzle and well placed ears. Good reach of neck leading into well laid back shoulders, good depth of chest & spring of rib, well boned & muscled. Moved well keeping a level topline with head and tail up, although not quite matching the reach and drive of 1 .

3.Blandford’s Janeyjimjams Joshua :

Res Tilley’s Janeyjimjams Jubilee Star at Starzak:

Veteran Dog (0)

Good Citizen Dog (1)

1. Morris’ Canicula Dylan Thomas : A lovely size 8 year old in very hard and fit condition. Lovely head and kind expression, excellent pigmentation, lovely SMALL neat well set ears. Compact body with deep chest and good spring of rib . Well set tail carried well. Nice low hocks. Excellent coat colour with good texture and wave. Moved well with reach and drive.

Puppy Bitch (4)

1. Lui’s Eblanahalls Honeytrap : A very pretty bitch, presents a balanced outline standing and on the move, although handler tends to overstretch her and she can appear exaggerated. Nice head with small well set ears. Moved very well with reach and drive. A promising puppy full of confidence and enjoying herself .BPIB

2. Wright’s Abbeymead Capello D’Angelo : Nice head and expression. Size up on 1, hope she doesn’t grow on too much more. Rich wheaten coat in lovely condition. Nice neck, topline and tailset. Good conformation and moved well.

3. Rogers’ Kizzahla Little White Lie :

Res .John’s Dohoci A Taste of Honey

Junior Bitch (6)

1. Moles’ & Williams’ Celtannia Atlantic Aida : This was a nicely balanced bitch ,with a good head and small well set ears . Good neck and shoulder placement, level topline , low hocks, well carried tail. Lovely coat colour and texture. Moved and showed very well.

2. Davies’ Janeyjimjams Jam Puff at Brynhir : Larger sized bitch, very well presented. Paler coat than 1, colour just returning . Good front and rear angulation, good topline, well set tail and carriage. Moved & showed well. A lovely character, full of Wheaten personality.

3. Gleeson’s Glendowan Golden Brandy :

Res Shrive’s Emalot Sweet Child o Mine

Post Graduate Bitch (2)

1. Hammond & Evans’ Calvenace Come on Eileen : Liked the attitude of this well balanced bitch, she carries herself so well with head and tail held high on the move. Lovely feminine head and expression, lovely soft coat .Excellent neck, topline and tailset, nicely angulated. Considered in the challenge but unfortunately had rather given up at this stage, pity.

2. Rogers’ Kizzahla Kiss and Tell : Excellent coat colour and texture, nice head and expression, compact body. Not quite the movement of winner.

Limit Bitch (3)

A good class, trio of quality bitches and splitting hairs.

1. Hammond & Evans’ Calvenace Kichi : A very well balanced, soundly constructed bitch. Loved her head and expression, good reach of neck, topline and tailset, alert outlook. Lovely coat of good colour and texture. Moved freely with reach and drive to win the class and RCC.

2. Lui’s Thistlebe Them There Eyes at Eblanahalls SHCM : Similar comments apply, this feminine bitch has a lovely coat with glossy sheen , pleasing in outline and balance. Good neck, shoulders and topline. Moved and showed well.

3. Jones’ Saffini Suga Pie Honey Bunch : A lovely bitch but not moving as well today as I know she can. Profusion of coat was detracting rather than enhancing her outline.

Open Bitch (5,1)

Super class, all having positive attributes, movement being the deciding factor.

1. Moles’ & Williams’ Ch Celtannia Extra Chic : A well balanced bitch , nice size with lovely outline, short coupled, good neck and shoulders, level topline , well set & carried tail . Mature wavy coat with good colour and sheen. Pleasing feminine head & expression. Moved very well with reach and drive, covering ground well. Pleased to award her the Bitch CC , in the challenge she was on her toes to edge BOB . Delighted to see she was shortlisted in a strong terrier group.

2. Clarke’s Ch Flaxella Weaver of Dreams JW SHCM: Soundly constructed, lovely coat texture . Good neck, firm topline and nice tailset. Very well presented and handled. Preferred size and movement of 1.

3. Shrive’s Emalot Santa Maria: On first examination I thought this was my winner, she is lovely for type, coat and conformation, however she wasn’t moving as well as I know she can today and had to pay the penalty .. such a shame.

Res. Rogers’ CH Kizzahla Dreamsicle

Veteran Bitch (2)

Little to separate these 2 excellent bitches, in great condition for their age. Both are great movers, moving freely with good reach in front and drive behind.

1. Williams’ CH Brynhir Rochelle Lil Rock : This bitch has a great attitude and shows with enthusiasm. Pleasing head & expression. Superb soft coat with good colour and wave, good neck and shoulders, deep chest, firm topline and well set tail. A real showgirl and a credit to her owner.

2. Tilley’s CH Starzak Solid Gold E Z Action JW SHCM. Similar comments apply, she has a paler coat and a shade longer in body than 1. Excellent head and tail carriage. Pushed the winner hard as she moved well but not quite matching 1 today.

Good Citizen Bitch (0).
