SOFT COATED WHEATEN JUDGE SOUTHERN COUNTIES 13

Soft-coated Wheaten Terriers

Thank you for a nice entry. The Wheaten crowd are delightful; lots of ringside support, applause & congratulations to fellow exhibitors & plenty of laughter & fun. This is what dog showing is about – well done all of you. Once again there is a greater depth of quality in the bitches. That being said, some are rather too big compared with some of the dogs who are too small! Type, coat & colour are more uniform & mouths have improved immensely. Front action is far too loose, & elbows & shoulders rather weak. I was also surprised to see some specimens with cow hocks – not something I have noticed in the past. All of the dogs were fit & healthy, of sound temperament & well presented & handled. The line-up for the bitch CC was the best I have ever seen & I took a long time to make up my mind. At the end, the dog CC, bitch CC & BP made a pleasing picture.

PD (2)

1 Satherley & Gibbons’ Silkcroft No More Games, 10 months well grown pup with typical outline & rich coat colour of correct texture, nice head with dark pigmentation, excellent mouth on good reach of neck, short coupled, well angulated, moved well with level topline. BP;

2 Thorburn’s Northridge Gotango, 11 months, well grown pup, nice head, straight front, deep chest, good tailset, moved OK. Preferred colour & angulation of 1.

JD (2)

1 N Gotango;

2 Adams’ Saffini Crazy For You, 14 months, still rather immature for age, nice type, with coat of good colour & texture, short coupled, deep chest & good spring of rib but needs more reach of neck, I would have placed him higher but was so unruly it was impossible to assess his movement, needs time & with some ring training he should do well.

PGD (2)

1 Mapson’s Zaraslake Sirocco, compact with good outline, coat rather pale but nice silky texture, typical head with dark pigmentation, kind expression, strong neck, level topline, moved well both ways;

2 Godwin’s Stevelyn Walk Of Life, heavier all through, nice colour, good reach of neck, deep chest, well laid back shoulders. Rather unsettled on the move, so difficult to assess.

LD (6)

A nice class with close decisions on the first three.

1 Howes’ Daisymaes Desmond Dekker, somewhat pale in colour, but excels in outline with good reach of neck, straight front, level topline & good tailset, nice head with dark pigmentation, correct bite, well muscled, in fit condition, moved well coming & going;

2 Wright’s Kariskye Horrid Henry for Abbeymead, nice square outline with straight front, good colour coat with loose curls. Rather upright in stifle & topline tends to rise on move;

3 Omitogun & Matti’s Frontline Mr Feelgood.

OD (5)

1 Satherley’s Elkis Aquila of Silkcroft, what a cracker, great ring presence & rapport with his handler, a real showman, very typical, standing foursquare with great outline, nice head with dark pigmentation, big black nose & perfect bite, well arched neck into well laid back shoulders, straight front, deep chest, good spring of rib, well angulated but without exaggeration, level topline, moved well with reach & drive, in fit hard condition, is an asset to the breed. CC & BOB without hesitation;

2 Fallon’s Ch Janeyjimjams Jensen, excellent specimen of the breed, not as big as 1 but with many of the same attributes. Excellent reach of neck, good shoulders, coat is a lovely colour & texture, moved well. RCC;

3 Lawrence’s Ch Snowmeadow Numinous Niilo.

V (3)

All three were bitches & when it comes to movement these golden girls can show the youngsters a thing or two, all three should have won first prize & my final decision was very close.

1 Rogers’ Ch Kizzahla Katinka, 9 years, won her place on her very fit muscular condition, typical wheaten outline, very feminine, pretty head on strong neck, straight front, level topline & good tailset, lovely coat texture & colour;

2 Charleton’s Snowmeadow Janeyjimjams with Showadiwadi, 10 years, very similar to 1 but somewhat larger, nice coat & colour, good head with dark pigmentation, straight front, good spring of rib, level topline;

3 Munn’s Ch Snowmeadow Jellybean Jilly.

PB (1)

1 Wright’s Kariskye Tip Top Too Ticky to Abbeymead, 9 months calm well trained pup, well up to size & coat is rather pale & straight at present, pretty head, good pigmentation, nice neck, well laid back shoulders. Good outline but tail rather curly, front movement needs to tighten up but rear movement OK.

JB (5)

1 Dowdy’s Denzilly Sweet Rebel, 18 months, standing foursquare with straight front, good reach of neck & level topline, very pretty head, well pigmented eyes, large nose & correct bite, coat colour is coming along nicely, moved OK both ways. Preferred her outline to 2;

2 Wardle’s Saffini One And Only, 18 months, not as forward as 1 & heavier in body, but lovely type with excellent rich coat colour. Pretty head, kind expression, correct bite, straight front, good spring of rib, but would like a little more reach of neck. Front movement a little loose;

3 Grant’s Dannebriel Cirque Surreal.

PGB (4)

1 O’Sullivan & Harding’s Chekhina Streaming Soraka, I think she has a promising future, beautiful type with square outline & lovely coat, pretty head with dark pigmentation, kind expression, perfect bite, strong neck into well laid back shoulders, deep chest, straight front, good spring of rib, held her topline on the move, excellent rapport with her handler. I gave her strong consideration in the challenge, one to watch;

2 Brooks’ Loofahsa Hip Hop, close decision with 1. Quality bitch, pretty head, good neck, straight front, deep chest & good spring of rib, good tailset with level topline. Preferred colour & front movement of 1;

3 Hughlock’s Chechina Galway Girl.

LB (11)

What a fantastic class with very close decisions throughout, a shame so many good ones had to go cardless on this occasion.

1 Williams’ Brynhir Rochelle Lil Rock, lovely bitch who has it all, lovely colour & coat texture, very typical outline with strong neck, well laid back shoulders, straight front, good spring of rib, short coupled with good tailset & level topline, pretty head, dark eyes, large black nose, correct bite, nicely angulated with strong well muscled thighs & strong pasterns, moves with reach in front & drive behind, in the challenge I preferred her substance & colour. CC;

2 Munn’s Snowmeadow Peggy Phurrari, larger than 1 with paler coat, but quality all through. Well balanced with nice outline, level topline, straight front, feminine head on well arched neck, one of the better movers which is typical of this kennel. Would prefer a little less weight;

3 Rogers’ Kizzahla Dreamsicle.

OB (9)

Another lovely class with future champions waiting in the wings.

1 Tilley’s Starzak Solid Gold Ez Action, nice size, feminine, well balanced with typical outline, pretty head with lovely furnishings & very dark pigmentation, coat a little pale but good texture, excellent neck, well laid back shoulders, straight front, level topline, good tailset. Moved OK going out, but rather loose in front. RCC;

2 Grant’s Kellynack The Fabulous Fox, good one, heavier boned than 1, nice colour, pretty head on well arched neck, strong forehand, good spring of rib, level topline, well angulated, well muscled & fit, moved OK, sympathetically handled;

3 Lawrence’s Emalot Little Miss Star.
