SOFT COATED WHEATEN JUDGE WELKS 14

I thank the WELKS committee for the appointment and the exhibitors for their support.
When judging I always have the first paragraph of the Standard in mind, the last sentence sums it up: ‘Standing four square with head and tail up giving the appearance of a happy dog full of character’. I am sure the weather and being third in the ring did not help, too many looked as though they were not enjoying themselves. Movement coming and going was not good overall, too many wide or too narrow in front and some very close or erratic behind. In general coat texture and presentation was good with few exaggerations. Uniformity is difficult to achieve these days but I was pleased with the main winners and felt they are good examples of the breed illustrating the different types.
