STAFFORDSHIRE BULL NATIONAL TERRIER 11 Staffordshire Bull Terrie Judge/s:Geoff Faulkner (Glowud)
STAFFORDSHIRE BULL TERRIER I should like to take this opportunity to thank the Committee for the appointment and for their hospitality and also to thank all who entered under me for the honour and privilege of assessing their dogs. I felt the overall standard of the bitches was good and that, augers well for the future. I was looking for substance and in, the main, I found that quality and I have to say that many a decision was extremely close. I am pleased to say my CC winner, after the Referees decision for BOB went on to take Puppy Group 2 and I offer my congratulations to all concerned. ( I have been having computer problems and am typing this more than a week after the Show and I understand that she has taken her 3rd CC. What a wonderful achievement!). One thing I would comment on is the feeding of exhibits whilst showing. It is all very well tempting ones dog with treats, in order to get it to show better, but a few of them were so interested in the tit-bits that they were "difficult" to assess and therefore achieved the opposite effect! MPB (18,4) 1 Hemstock's Jolihem Moady Waarp. From this long established kennel this is a strongly bodied red, that stood "four square" all the time. Beautifully headed for her age with, small, rose ears and dark eyes she has pronounced cheek muscles and a dark mask. Tight lips cover a good mouth. Deeply and broadly skulled she has that "wicked" expression. With very good quarters 'fore and aft she is short coupled, broad and deep chested and moves with wide, parallel and defined drive on good feet. A good, sound, puppy. 2 Alger's Crossguns Bit Ova Peach. A very close decision between her and 3 but I just preferred her more "barrelled" rib and fore-chest. An upstanding b/brindle with a strong head and good dentition she has nicely placed and shaped ears and eyes, which are dark and round. Nicely bodied with decent quarters she moves well propelled by a decent rear and is maturing well. 3 Bruton's Zakstaff Black Duchess. PB (17,3) 1 Jackson's Roughnecks Daggers Drawn. A nicely put together mahogany brindle with a well defined head which has depth and breadth. Her pigmentation is excellent and is exemplified by the darkest of, round eyes .She is well off for bone with a clean and wide front with depth to her brisket. Nicely ribbed and short coupled she is wide and strong in the rear which is finished off with a lovely, whipped, pump handle tail. A good moving, puppy with nice feet. A lovely colour we used to see often years ago but not so much now mores the pity. 2 Williams' Bellajazz Annalisa. A b/brindle bitch of pleasing quality, and also has that, essential, wide front which is lean and long muscled. Her head is nicely shaped with eyes placed wide apart and ears well positioned and a good mouth. She is nicely ribbed and coupled, has an adequate turn of stifle and for her age is developing along the right lines. She moves well enough covering the ground holding her topline. 3 Gough's Jefmor Sent from Heaven. JB (15,1) An excellent class comprised of many good bitches. 1 Summerfield's Canakey Sweetpea. What an outstanding puppy for although in Junior I later found out she was still eligible to be in puppy for another15 days! She, absolutely, oozes quality from the point of her nose to the tip of her tail. A red/fawn with white markings to her chest and feet she has a classic head, with a dark mask and lovely small ears that are held in a rose shape. Her dark beautifully placed and shaped eyes look straight ahead and go to give her a lovely expression. Her muzzle is deep with a strong underjaw and she has a terrier bite. She is extremely well balanced and has a shortish neck that melds into a lovely front with good bone, behind which is a rib cage of excellent depth and width. Being short in the coupling and having very good, wide, hindquarters she moves powerfully and with that essential drive. A joy to see and go over! CC, BOB & PG2. 2 Hirst and Bibby's Taraiel Ciara. Another good moving and standing, classy, b/brindle with many of the features attributed to the former. She is a bitch with a head that is both deep thro' and powerful with good eye and ear placement, defined cheek muscles and a true bite. A short neck flows into very good shoulders with straight forelegs and nice feet. She is well bodied up, short coupled, with well muscled hindquarters. A very close decision between 2 and 3 with a lot to like about both. 3 Simpson's Briganah Breaking Dawn. YB (10) 1 Bowdery's Zakstaff Miss O'Reilly at Southstar. It was from the ringside I first saw this girl as a puppy and liked the look of her. I'm not disappointed as she is a good quality bitch with a strong but still feminine head of depth and power. Strong in the muzzle she possesses a good mouth with teeth set square to the jaw. Her ears and eyes are nicely positioned also. She has a body that is square and box-like and indicates strength. Wide in the front she has decent springing to her rib and is short coupled with a wide stance in the rear and covers the ground powerfully. 2 Hirst and Bibby,s Taraiel Rihanna. A b/brindle bitch with a white flash to her neck. With small rose ears and dark eyes she is pleasingly headed. Whilst not as widely fronted as 1 she has adequate, straight legged, forequarters which flow from a nice, short neck. With a level topline and a nicely angled rear she moves with purpose. She presents a pleasing picture and though she was unlucky and missed out in the last class she showed better in this. 3 Coble's Surestaff Valentina. NB (9) All exhibits previously seen. 1 Draper's Herodotus Well Lush. A predominately red with white markings nicely put together and presented. With eyes dark enough for coat colour and nicely placed ears she has a head shape that is more reminiscent of yesteryear, being a slightly longer in the foreface, with an acceptable muzzle to skull ratio. With good quarters that are nicely angulated and a strong body she is an attractive bitch whose movement is ok. 2 Bedford's Pitstar's Pure Poison at Smokemont. A reasonably short coupled, b/brindle bitch with a decent head and a nice eye shape. Dentition is good and she has depth to her foreface. Although tending to be a little over angulated, but still acceptable, she has a muscular rear-end which propels her well. 3 Draper's Herodotus What's Occuring. GB (11,1) 1 Hirst and Bibby's Taraiel Ciara. 2 Coble's Surestaff Valentina. Another b/brindle with dark eyes, a broad skull and has good mouth qualities. A nicely, bodied "cobby" type of bitch with decent bone to her front and depth to her brisket. She is well rounded in the rib and has short couplings. She moves well on good feet. 3 Draper's Herodotus Well Lush. PGB (19,2) What a superb class. Those chosen could and probably will change places many times but this is how I saw it today. All of them are the type needed for the future of the breed. Just small preferences separated them. 1 Gatenby's Ladrambay Wilderness Child. A powerfully built, nicely boned, b/brindle with a deep thro' and broad skull and well set ears. Her eyes are round, dark and look straight ahead. Her front is wide with a deep brisket, well laid shoulders behind which her rib is nicely barrelled and her couplings are short. Her rear-end stance is wide and suggests power which is evident in her movement. 2 Cooper and Ternant's Staffash Sweet Sensation. A lovely red bitch and apart from the colour I could repeat the critique for the previous dog. (Same for 3rd in this class). This girl has all the necessary points one looks for in a bitch, a good head-piece with all the attributes required on a strong, short coupled body, being wide and with depth to her front. With good angulation to her quarters both front and rear she moves with definite drive. 3 Ryders Kannechor Be Dazzled. LB (23,3) 1 Dewar's Mintmar One For One. This well bodied, nicely boned, b/brindle has a look of class about her. She has a chiselled head-piece which is deep and wide with eyes set wide apart and lovely, small, ears. She also carries a nicely barrelled rib and has depth to her brisket, good shoulders and is short coupled. With sound hind-quarters she has parallel and sure movement. 2 Winwood and Tunnah's Cursus Summer Storm. A strongly headed b/brindle that is well known on the circuit and the first thing that struck me was the width between her eyes which are dark and the, nice, shape of her head. A nice, compact, bitch her body is well rounded with ample rib and good bone. Nicely put together in her hind-quarters she moves well. Pushed 1 hard all the way. 3 Frankland's Aldwych Tiger Lilly. OB (14,1) Another superb class where even one of my favourites over the last ten years had to go card-less such was the competition! 1 Hirst and Bibby's Taraiel Trinity. I've been an admirer of this, top quality, bitch for sometime now and "going over" her confirmed my estimation of her. She is a b/brindle with white to her, short, neck and to her chest which in turn is broad and deep. She stands "four-square" and is well ribbed-up, short and nicely coupled with lovely laid shoulders and correctly angulated and wide rear quarters which propel her with drive. One of the best headed bitches of the day with depth and width to her skull, strongly muzzled with tight lips and good dentition. Her ears are well placed and so are her eyes which are round and dark. A lovely bitch who was so unlucky to come up against the ultimate winner. 2 Simpson's Ch Briganah Black Orchid. A, well known, quality b/brindle. She has many of the attributes of the winner, such as her strength of fore-face which is tight lipped and her over-all skull proportions. She too has nicely positioned, round and dark eyes and a rose shaped ear carriage. She flows from a good neck into a fore-chest of width and depth. Her rib is strong and nicely rounded and her couplings are good. With nicely angled rear quarters she has determined movement. 3 Trow's Ch Hubbulls The Promise. G Faulkner |
