STAFFORDSHIRE BULL JUDGE CITY OF BIRMINGHAM 11

Staffordshire Bull Terriers

A very well organised show, & personally I feel the outside ring with its covered roof but open sides is certainly an asset, albeit the noisy exhibitors in an adjacent ring were a bit of a distraction at times, particularly during the puppy classes. Pleased to discover bad mouths seem to be disappearing, at least I didn’t come across any bad bites but I am concerned at the number of poor toplines that are in evidence, together with some very untypical tail carriages. I hear the old argument that in the past only five points were allocated to the tail but we can’t afford to ignore faults completely or we’ll see the demise of the pump handle tail altogether. Having said this, I did think the overall quality was OK & definitely found what I was looking for in my principal winners.

VD (2)

1 Fairhurst’s York One Time for Fairlenium, nicely marked b/br/w, pleasing head shape with round dark eyes & good ear placement, in nicely muscled condition with level topline. Moved & handled well;

2 Ridley’s Ch/Ir Ch Jagstaff The Advocate, red with black mask, late arrival into the ring or he might have been higher placed. Well put together with nice body, plenty of rib, straight front, strong head, broad skull, short foreface, dark eyes, neat ears, responsive to handler & moved with drive.

MPD (7)

1 Plant’s Kyraloebis Italian Gigalo, dark brindle, smart looking pup, nice size for age, good head, lovely dark eyes & small rose ears, well placed, giving a super expression. Body development good, short coupled, good rearquarters with level topline, on & off the move. Pleasing all round, very promising;

2 Johnson’s Tillcarr Fire Marshall, dark brindle, another quality pup, good head & bite, straight front, well developed for age, well bent stifles, moved & handled well. Just preferred the darker eyes of 1;

3 Moore & Cullum’s Eclypstaff Rude Boy.

PD (7)

1 Corcoran’s Zakstaff What’s The Story, dark brindle, lovely head, deep stop, well placed round dark eyes give desired expression. Straight front, ample bone & good pigmentation, short back, strong backend with nice bend of stifle, one to watch out for. Good mover;

2 Dallas’ Baysend Where’s Wally, dark brindle, Standard size, good head, correct bite, clean lip, well developed body with level topline, in good condition, moved OK;

3 Herbert’s Keeping Quiet.

JD (11)

1 Ryder’s Kannechor Vincit Omnia, dark brindle. Strong head, deep through skull, correct dentition, good ear carriage & dark eyes, nicely put together with good rib & hindquarters, short coupled & decent topline. Moved soundly & handled well;

2 Cartwright’s Zakstaff Game On, dark brindle, very nice typy youngster, good head shape, clean lip, strong neck, straight front, level topline held on the move. Close decision;

3 Bruton’s Zakstaff Black Baron.

YD (8)

1 Membury’s Mitzstaff Fun To Flex, dark brindle, Standard sized compact dog with good head & alert expression, broad skull, strong foreface, scissor bite, straight front, adequate brisket, good rib & nice bend of stifle. Moved OK when settled;

2 Ridley’s Jagstaff Simply Red, well built with nice head shape, dark round eyes, neat ears & blunt muzzle. Wide front, well off for rib & strong backend, fine red coat in lovely condition, handled well;

3 Gabel’s Ger/ Dutch/Lux Ch Alchemist Of Spirit-Staffs.

GD (2)

1 Keeping Quiet, red with black mask, decent head shape with neat well placed ears, nice clean body outline, pigmentation good, moved & handled well;

2 Fletcher & Seedhouse’s Granitangel Supergiant, dark br/w, tidy well balanced dog of Standard size with pleasing head, dark eye & nice ear carriage, in fit condition. Handled well.

PGD (6)

1 Hyde’s Segdbred Black Diamond, dark brindle, agreeable blend of bull & terrier, well within Standard, no exaggerations. Good head, tight lip, nice ratio of muzzle to skull, dark eyes & good ear placement. Clean shoulders, satisfactorily dropped brisket & good rib with a level topline, one of the better movers. RCC;

2 Wells’ Kalhols He’s The One, dark brindle, good headed dog, strong neck leading into well placed shoulders, nicely ribbed & short coupled, level topline. Fit with good muscletone, moved freely;

3 Funnell’s Veklorra Barney Rebel at Powerpack.

LD (16)

1 Meara & Millgate’s Ramblestaff Solo Eclipse at Millamear, dark brindle, well made dog of first rate construction & balance who is a nice example of bull & terrier. Pleasing head shape, with decent stop, dark round eyes, correct bite with large white teeth, & neat rose ears used well to enhance expression. Straight in front, round boned legs with good padded feet, which turned out just enough, strong neck, well placed shoulders, good rib, short coupled, level topline, muscled hindquarters & well bent stifles enabled him to cover the ground effortlessly. Good all round dog presented in great condition. CC & BOB;

2 Wall & Webb’s Manark Predator, dark brindle, quality dog who fits the Standard well, unfortunate to come up against 1 in such good form. Possesses a well defined head, nicely put together body, ample rib & strong backend. Couldn’t match 1 on movement;

3 Marlow’s Brigannah New Moon.

OD (14)

1 Matthews & Patrick’s Absolute Star, dark brindle, strong head, first class shape, deep through with good mouth, small well placed ears complemented by dark eyes. True front, good legs & body, tidy feet, powerful hindquarters, well bent stifles. Moved with purpose;

2 Dowse’s Rotherstaff Black Tie, dark brindle, good clean head, broad skull, distinct stop, rose ears, wicked dark eyes. Nice body, short coupled, well muscled rearend. Would have liked just a fraction more covering to complete the overall picture, very nice dog but hard to handle to advantage;

3 Ford’s Ch Valglo Jeff’s Choice.

GCD (2)

I would like to thank the owners of these dogs for their efforts in promoting the breed in a positive light. Keep up the good work.

1 Thomson’s Kiamirose Bossin Motion at Siriustaff, dark brindle, strongly built, upstanding dog with a pleasing head, well boned & nicely balanced. Moved & handled well;

2 Dolphin’s Alport Tornado at Delphinstaff, dark br/w, lighter build than 1 but of good conformation, in fit condition, moved OK.

VB (1)

1 Robbins’ Princessa Natala Kaja, red, nice typy bitch with a good shapely head, dark eyes & rose ears, clean bite. Good outline & level topline when moving, in good condition.

MPB (5) 1 Kent’s Unverdadero Black Magic, dark brindle with white blaze, almost 9 months, promising puppy with a good head, correct mouth, lovely dark eyes, finished off with small rose ears. True front, body coming along nicely, topline OK. Moved & handled well for her age;

2 Bryan’s Valglo Lucia, dark brindle, likeable head, nice dark eyes & correct ear placement giving good expression. Moved well. Close decision, just felt the maturity of 1 gave her the edge;

3 Harvey’s Kyraloebis Sweetest Taboo.

PB (10)

1 Davies’ Sebsonic Shinealight at Stormbull, quality dark brindle with small white blaze on chest. Have watched her from afar &, hands on, she is all that she promises to be. Beautiful strong head but losing none of her femininity, piercing dark round eyes that give such a lovely expression, thin rose ears, strong foreface, tight lips, perfect bite, good front, short back, excellent topline & good hindquarters. Moved & handled expertly. Would take her home anytime. BP;

2 Moody’s Moodystaff Lady Luck, dark brindle, very good type of bitch, unlucky enough to meet up with 1. Lovely head, deep stop, good strong muzzle, round dark eyes & neat ears. Good body, nice coat condition & excellent pigmentation. Good mover. No surprise they are both out of the same sire;

3 Smith’s Estellastaff Birthday Girl Pennsmith.

JB (15)

1 Williams’ Bellajazz Annalisa, dark brindle, eyecatching youngster with good head, deep stop, expressive dark round eyes set wide apart & well placed ears used well, compact body with a strong backend. Expertly handled to show off her virtues;

2 Dickenson & Stewert’s Devils Angel, dark brindle with white marking on chest. Well balanced bitch with strong, clean cut head, housing dark round eyes. Good front & shoulder placement, ample bone, well ribbed, short coupled, level topline. Moves purposefully & responds well to handler;

3 Bruton’s Zakstaff Black Duchess.

YB (10)

1 Partlett’s Janikastco Miss Hellfyre of Starolestaff, deep red with black mask & white flash. Very attractive bitch with a lot of qualities, good head, dark eyes, neat ears, correct mouth, true front & compact body with nice rearend & well bent stifles. Excellent pigmentation. Would like to see her a little more animated but moved well;

2 Thomas & Davies’ Samtan Mystical Gem, dark brindle with white flash. Fair sized bitch in tip-top condition, appealing head, dark eyes set to look straight ahead, strength in muzzle, good bite & nice rose ears, compact body, good rib & decent tuck-up, moved & handled well;

3 Walker’s Janikastco In Ya Dreamz.

GB (6)

1 Hawken’s Carfury Bal Maiden, dark brindle/white flash. Good head, broad skull, deep stop, shortish muzzle, dark eyes & rose ears well placed. Her front is good as are her legs & padded feet. Brisket deep enough, short back & level topline. Moved out well;

2 Budge’s Cyberstaff Honey’s Lil Gal at Budgestaff, dark brindle. Taller bitch, nicely put together but very immature. Appealing head, dark round eyes & neat ears, correctly positioned. Should finish quite nicely, handled well & moved OK;

3 Rowe & South’s Oscellsie’s Tiger Lily at Simazyanya.

PGB (8)

1 Hirst & Bibby’s Taraiel Ciara, dark brindle, neat compact bitch of Standard size, very well balanced overall, strong feminine head with blunt muzzle, tight lips & good bite. Good body & nicely bent stifles. Would like to see her a little more outgoing but moved & handled well;

2 Hyde’s Sedgbred Beacon Baroness, dark brindle. Taller in stature than 1, but again has very good balance. Nice head, good body & strong hindquarters, moved well & held topline;

3 McClement’s Miss Cherie at Jodanzac.

LB (12)

1 Ryder & Caffary Kannechor Be Dazzled, dark brindle, substantial bitch with good head, deep through, distinct stop, with strength of underjaw, dark round eyes, rose ears, & correct mouth with large white teeth. Muscular neck leading into well laid shoulders, nicely ribbed with good tuck-up showing off strong hindquarters & well bent stifles. Handled well & moved with purpose;

2 Stokes’ Lucky Lucy at Oxstoks, r/w pied, substantial head with eyes as black as coal, but black marking around nose a bit misleading, decent stop & tidy ears. Good body, wide front with nicely round boned legs, although feet could be better. Deep brisket & well sprung ribs with level topline. Moved OK;

3 Higgins’ Spinnjack Mistletoe Magic for Acrestaf.

OB (15)

1 Manito’s Rotherstaff Indian Ink at Dynastaff, dark brindle. Quality bitch shown in superb condition with a classic bull & terrier head shape, scissor bite with lovely large teeth, a good ratio of muzzle to skull, the wickedest of dark eyes & lovely rose ears which she makes good use of to augment her excellent expression. She has a lovely compact body & level topline with a good tailset. I have judged her before, liked her then but liked her even better today with just a tad more covering. Moved round the ring with drive. CC;

2 Caswell & Dowling’s Leger Odds On Favourite at Cyberstaff, dark brindle, another admirable bitch, good head with distinct stop, dark round eyes & neat ears. Body shape good & well laid shoulders, in fit condition & handled well. Just preferred overall outline of 1. RCC;

3 Reaney & Pritchard’s Estoy Sondanda de la Vauxoise.

GCB (5)

1 Hall’s Rekrahstaff Miss Attitude cum Geordiestaff, dark brindle, pleasing head, good bite, lively expression, solidly built & moved well;

2 Robbins’ Princessa Natala Kaja;

3 Dolphin’s Alport Black Ink at Delphinstaff.
