STAFFORDSHIRE BULL JUDGE CITY OF BIRMINGHAM 12

Staffordshire Bull Terriers

A large entry. There was some real quality in both sexes but too many dogs & bitches lacked preparation. If you want to be successful in the show ring make the best of what you have got; too many exhibits were overweight, spoiling the view from over the top. Too many were down on the pasterns, lack of hard road work the cause in some cases.

On the positive side some exhibitors had prepared well & were rewarded. Mouths on the whole were good, movement varied a lot.

There is still a great disparity in size & type & this makes judging such an interesting challenge. I tried to be positive & seek out the virtues rather than any faults with each individual exhibit & was more than pleased with most of my winners.

VD (1)

1 Clark’s David Brown, 7 years fawn b/m, typical expression, in good condition, neat ears, good balance, moved & handled well.

MPD (3)

1 Hubble’s Hubbulls The Boss, well balanced fawn, correct bite, promising head, good front, short back, level topline, good bend of stifle, promising puppy;

2 Karlsson & Jones’ Kylestaff Voodoo Child, strong headed b/br, deep through muzzle, correct bite, good muscle development for age, plenty of bone, well handled;

3 Molineux & Hawkes’ Siamstaffs New Moon.

PD (9)

1 McGowan & Owen’s Tagstane Analyze This, br/w, mature youngster, short coupled, good spring of rib, good balance, dark eyes set correctly in deep through skull topped by good ear carriage. Promising future;

2 Booth & Grimwood’s Ramblestaff Dirty Cash, brindle, similar comments to 1. Well proportioned head, good bone, good spring of rib, straight front, moved OK. Should do well;

3 Hart’s Albermarbull Red Riot.

JD (12)

1 Lewis’ Charmonics Regal Lad, very typy br/w, in hard condition, good blend of bull & terrier. Tight fitting coat over good spring of rib, good tuck, looked good from any angle;

2 Stanway’s Waystaff Diggers Double, quality youngster, slower maturing than 1 & lighter in construction but has all the assets to progress. Moved & handled well;

3 Robbins’ Antroboss In The Red with Jakataffs.

YD (8)

1 Hubble’s The Man At The Top, balanced fawn with b/m, head of correct proportion, bite, ears & eyes all good, close coupled body, well ribbed & straight front. Took time to settle;

2 Thomas’ Ashtock Knight Shadow, fawn, good pigmentation, good front, shoulders & rib, well constructed rearend, good mover;

3 English’s Engstaff Made In England.

GD (3)

1 A In The Red with J, fawn, strong head, scissor bite, active, up on his toes. Handler needs to present him with a horizontal topline, not a sloping one. Decent dog;

2 Byrne’s Bernies Gaelic Star, fit b/br, slightly longer cast than 1 but of good type. Honest dog.

PGD (10)

1 English’s Engstaff Hey Joe, mahogany/br, stood foursquare, well proportioned, deep through skull, scissor bite, round eyes, good legs & feet, well muscled, good tuck & topline. Very fit, hard work has paid off;

2 Bruton’s Zakstaff Dark Knight, classy b/br, strong head, compact, all in proportion, looked good from any angle. Nails a bit long;

3 Cartwright’s Zakstaff Game On.

LD (22)

1 Plant’s Kyraloebis Italian Gigalo, b/br, right out of the top drawer. Classic head shape, good stop, cheek bumps, rose ears, dark round eyes correctly set, good shoulder placement, level topline, well let down hocks, correct tail carriage. Tight fitting coat, well sprung rib with desired tuck, very pleasing to the eye standing & on the move. CC & BOB;

2 Llewellyn’s Sikaistaff The Dark Knight, brindle, one to watch, just my type. Has all the essentials to challenge the best. Keep him fit & who knows;

3 Bryan’s Valglo Legionnaire.

OD (23)

1 Johnson’s Tillcarr Fire Marshall, well balanced b/br, looks classy from any angle, strong head without any coarseness, typical expression, clean scissor bite, excellent ear carriage, straight front, short coupled & good rear end construction. Moved with drive & although still a youngster had more than enough to hold his own at this level. RCC;

2 Membury’s Mitzstaff Fun To Flex, excellent specimen, short coupled, tight fitting coat, head of correct proportion, strong muzzle, good stop, good underjaw, muscular neck, well boned legs with plenty of drive on the move. Close decision with 1;

3 Ford’s Ch Valglo Jeff’s Choice.

GCD (1) A In The Red with Jakataffs.

VB (3)

1 Hopkins’ Trufflestaff Toffee Truffle, judged her 7 years ago, liked her then & like her now. B/w pied, oozing with type, still kept in good condition, enjoying her day out. A credit to her owners;

2 Graham’s Crimson Truffle, good day for the Truffles. The second of three mature ladies all in decent nick, just edged out 3 on substance;

3 Fletcher & Seedhouse’s Granitangel Solar Flare.

MPB (6)

1 Ridley’s Sunnystone Mulberry Mayhem, very mature youngster, strong headed b/br, short backed with all the essentials. Should do well with maturity;

2 Heron’s Dilarystaff Athena, not the maturity of 1 but plenty of time for development. I put soft hands on this one, there is no need to grab hold of these youngster it can put them off showing. Looked good on the move;

3 Waltham’s Jagsstaff Bon Amie.

PB (6)

1 Gold’s Ashbull Ofee, quality b/br Standard bitch, well balanced, good head shape & dentition, promising rib, sufficient bone, good bite, good bend of stifle, should do well. BP;

3 Fulford’s Staffstyle Crimson Kiss at Bokido.

JB (9)

1 Halifax’s Seastaff Polar Force at Jackstaff, top size w/f, feminine head & expression, good bite, clean lines, impressive construction when viewed on the move. Could not be denied top spot;

2 Hart’s Jazzygem Cherry Red Albermarbull, Standard sized fawn with b/m. My preferred size but was pipped here, nevertheless had good balance & all round construction was good;

3 Hughes & Mishdar’s Crowd Pleaser.

YB (8)

1 Pearce’s Eclypstaff Take A Bow for Bullhawk, most times when judging one comes across an exhibit with the X factor. This b/br is one. Never took her dark round eyes off me, demanded attention, superb head, scissor bite, deep stop, strong foreface, well developed body, bags of power on the move. Hard to handle but what a cracker. CC;

2 Stokes’ Oxstoks Cherry Blossom, balanced w/f of real quality, looked good standing & on the move, has all the essentials, plenty to admire, should do well. Unlucky to meet 1 in such good form;

3 Hart’s Albermarbull Fire’n Ice.

1 Holden’s Alport Miss Euphoria, b/br, well presented, decent example, good bite, dark eye, moved & handled well.

PGB (11)

2 Ford’s Temkade Jeff’s Dream at Jefmor, b/br, top size, showed good construction, decent head, good bite, neck, body & legs. Kept good topline on the move, plenty of drive;

LB (19)

1 McGowan & Owen’s Tagstane Fuchsia Struck, full of type, quality brindle, superb front topped by well proportioned feminine head, darkest of eyes gave desired expression, balanced body, good neck, legs & topline. A real showgirl who will trouble the best;

3 Harvey’s Kyraloebis Sweetest Taboo.

OB (14)

1 Mason’s Dare To Dream, b/br of the highest quality, classic feminine head, strong but without coarseness, correct bite, neatest of ears, scissor bite. Displayed superb balance, good rib, tight fitting coat, movement very good. A close decision in the challenge but had to settle for the RCC;

2 Hopkins’ Ch Trufflestaff Monifa Kanika, top class bitch, a great example of the breed that can never be overlooked. Fits the Standard like a glove, take this one home with me any time;

3 Sem & Ullaflaen’s Celunas Do Wah Diddy.
