STAFFORDSHIRE BULL CITY OF BIRMINGHAM 17 Judge: Dr A Bryden BEST OF BREED : 4934 JOHNSON Mr A & Mrs M Ginstean My Girl Lollipop At Nikkylestaff JW STAFFORDSHIRE BULL JUDGE CITY OF BIRMINGHAM 17 Unusually there was a greater entry of dogs than bitches on this occasion. Quality was variable and disappointing in one or two lower classes, with the real quality in depth to be seen in limit and open classes with both sexes. Front movement was overall quite good, but some dogs moved atrociously behind. Heads for the most part had sufficient strength, but one or two were spoiled by poor expression with poor eye shape playing a big part. Most dogs had ample bone and substance and only a few were too tall. Coats were in good condition overall. I fully realise that judges are accused of talking a load of b**ls in critiques, but I have to do so literally on this occasion! It is on to the testicles. One dog had two the size of peas and this could have been the result of hormonal sterilisation, another older one had one apparently normal testicle and one very small one while a third dog did have two of similar size but one felt abnormally hard and perhaps in need of veterinary examination. 1 Jones' Blazinstaff Light My Fire JW ShCM. 8 yr old red and white with lovely dark mask. Lovely head, well boned, nice straight front, ample rib, showing his age a bit plus getting a bit creaky and could have moved better behind. His qualities were evident and one could see that he could have competed with the best on his day. 2 Cooper's Tessy Blazing Star. 10 yr old brindle and white pied, nice head, good bite dark eye, ample rib and bone, not as well balanced as winner. 3 Price's Little Beau Geste. 1 Bergundthal's But's Charming Ruffians Never Regret. Top size brindle, strong head, eye a bit light, ample bone and rib, scored on strength of underjaw and could have been handled better. 2 Owen's Tagstane Tomahawk. 8 mth old coming on nicely, dark eye, correct bite, sufficient bone, decent spring of rib, standing stifle appeared a little over bent but seemed to even out on the move, just could not compete with strength of foreface of winner. 3 Cooper's Sheracruz Doin The Best I Can. 1 Axe's Harley's Choice. Very promising 11 mth old black brindle, punishing head, broad skull, strong foreface, good bite, dark eye, well boned, nice straight front, tidy feet, well ribbed, short coupled, decent rear end, moved ok, BPIB. 3 Dixon's Maggem Sinner Boy. 1 Shipp & Hammond's Hammystaff Hanky Panky With Idyllicstaff. Very nice standard sized red with white flash and dark mask, good bite, dark eye, strong head with broad deep skull, ears a little untidy well boned, straight front with feet tidy enough, good spring of rib, moved well. Should have a good future. 2 Southall & Powell's Backash Up N'Atem. Black brindle with nice strong head, good enough bodily, ample rib, but getting a bit stuffy on the neck, failed on movement and was a bit skittish all through. 3 Anchor's Valglo Daddy Cool. 1 Breckell's Chiswelstaff Lets Dance. Lovely headed, well balanced, standard sized black brindle, strong muzzle with good under-jaw, clean-lipped, correct bite, dark eye, strong deep through skull, well boned, lovely straight front, short strong neck, nice spring of rib, short coupled, moved well, shone on the day against some good opposition DCC. 2 Jordan's Dazmarnic Know Wot I Mean JW. Very nice red that was unfortunate to meet the winner on the day, very nice head but not quite so clean in muzzle as winner, good bite, another that moved well, just could not match winner in bone and correct amount of substance. 3 Freeman & Davies' Kylestaff Moonlight Shadow At Windstaff JW. 1 H Hanky Panky With Idyllicstaff. 2 Devlin's Tightlines Dusty's Trail. Nice red/fawn and white with stong pleasing head, bite ok, ample spring of rib, could have move better both fore and aft which spoiled his chances. 3 Buchan's Happystaff Black Sabbath. 1 Thomson's Luthais It's Hammer Time With Westbull. Gorgeous head, deep broad skull, dark eye, correct bite, straight front, well boned, nice spring of rib, short coupled, moved ok, but would not like him to be any taller. 2 Rees' Edgeworth Arturo. Another black brindle but a finer type than winner, decent head but could not match winner in underjaw, moved well. 3 Darby's Manark Guns And Roses. A good class with the quality starting to shine through. 1 Davis' Tegumen The World Is Yours. Standard sized black brindle of excellent type, good head all round with correct bite and dark eye, well boned, straight front, well ribbed, decent back end, a bit skittish on the move but has plenty of virtues. 2 Mayren's Bellarouge Adonis At Fergiestaffs JW. Well made red and white, pleasing head, good bite, good ear carriage, feet not as tidy as winner and not quite so compact but a worthy specimen nevertheless. 3 Edwards' Tagstane Welsh Wonder. A very good class with several good dogs going cardless in very strong competition. Is seems that the 'young pretenders' came through on the day putting the champions and other consistently placed dogs in the class to the sword. 1 Whitley's Ginstean Black Bomber. Lovely black brindle of excellent type, nice head all round, dark eye, good bite, clean lipped, good ear carriage, nice straight front, well ribbed, short coupled, it was touch and go in the challenge but in the end had to settle for RCC. 2 Coble's Surestaff Wellington. Another black brindle of very good type. In many ways similar to winner so same comments apply. Pushed the winner very hard but preferred its expression. 3 Miller's Deldenas Black Shadow. 1 Tessy Blazing Star. 2 Mitchell & Ashton's Our Little Cracker. Blue with ample bone but head could do with better definition. Scored in substance over third in class. 3 H Black Sabbath. 1 Hirst & Bibby's Ch Taraiel Ciara JW ShCM. Very nice standard sized 7 yr old with an illustrious career behind her, well made bodily with pleasing head, correct bite, ample rib moved well balanced without exaggeration. Best Veteran in Breed, Went on to Reserve Best Veteran in Terrier Group with owner returning to the ringside grinning like a Cheshire Cat. A credit to the breed for her performance. 2 Funnell's Ch Kewaunee Pocahontas For Powerpack JW. Another with a top career and now approaching 10 yr old, still in excellent condition and competing well but preferred the balance and compactness of the winner. 3 Buchan's Araidh Cherish The Day. 1 Lee & Coleman's Berrystock Enigma Black. Very promising 8 mth old black brindle, well made bodily with level top line, nice head, good bite, developing nicely for age, moved ok, could have a good future. Best Puppy Bitch. 2 Riley & Corcoran's Molru Shine Ya Light. Only 6 mths old but also promising, pleasing head, level topline moved well, Ears need to settle but hopefully this will come with age. 3 Owen's Tagstane Bobby Magee. 1 McDermott & Bernhardsson's King's And Queen Over The Moon (Imp). Black brindle 11 mth old, has plenty of virtues, strong enough standard type with decent head, good bite, no significant faults, just waiting for muzzle and head to strengthen up. 2 Desmond's Elitebull Moonbeam. Well made 9 mth old, moved well, just hope bone and substance come with maturity. Time will tell with her. 3 Blanch Calonge's Diamonds Of Blanch Lady Thunder. 1 Simpson's Briganah Body And Soul.Strong headed black brindle, correct bite, good expression, nice clean lips, good depth and breadth of skull, short strong neck, ample rib, sufficient bone, straight front, moved well. 2 Stanway's Stormfire Crack The Code At Waystaff (Imp). Red and white pied, a better bitch than you realise when you get your hands on her, decent head and expression, could not match winner on strength of head and overall substance, sound enough all round and moved ok. 3 Jackson's Jackabyte Miss Moneypenny. A nice class all round. 1 Scotland's Callastaff Moon River JW. Lovely standard sized dark brindle, beautiful head and expression, neat ears, dark eye, good bite, straight front, ample bone, well ribbed, moved very well, carrying just too much extra weight which affected body shape and played a major part when it came to the crunch. RCC. 2 Ryan's Rubericla Little Elita One. Well made black brindle, has most of the virtues one looks for but could not match winner in expression. 3 Barnett's Fredstaff Don't Look Away. 1 Buchan's Happystaff Could It Be Magic. Pleasing little black brindle, nice head, tidy ears, well enough constructed but a little more bone and substance would have helped, moved well, 3 Moore's She's A Rock Star. 1 Mann's Neotoro Cosmic Girl JW. Black brindle with pleasing head, good bite, dark eye, nice expression, sufficient rib, but more bone and substance would help, moved ok. 2 Birchall's Dinostaff Solo Miss Lily. White top sized bitch, has her good points but would have like much more substance and bone, scored on head and expression over third place. 3 Glassbrook & Rhodes' Rhoglass Megamillion. A quality class all round. 1 Johnson's Ginstean My Girl Lollipop At Nikkylestaff JW. Lovely standard sized black brindle, very clean with no exaggerations, very well made and sound all round, nice shaped head with sufficient depth and breadth of skull, strong muzzle with clean lips, good bite, dark round eye, moved very well. CC and BOB. 2 Butler's Joemikeste Play The Game. Another very nice bitch and a bit unlucky to meet winner on the day, ample bone, tidy feet, good body, moved ok but likes to play her handler(s) up, could not quite match winner in expression. 3 McClelland's Rochlawie Bonnie Lass Although small, a class teeming with quality and the one that went cardless could count itself unlucky. Places could easily change from day to day. 2 Byrne & Gartland's Ch Carandstaff Mooondance JW. Another classy black brindle, with loads of quality, very close decision with winner, preferred her better strength of muzzle and underjaw over the equally classy third place. 3 Winwood & Tunnah's Ch Neotoro Stella JW.
