STAFFORDSHIRE BULL JUDGE DRIFFIELD 13

Staffordshire Bull Terriers

Such a good quality gathering of Staffords. Overall I didn’t pick up any major problems assuming the entry was representative of the breed as a whole & I think we are lucky that the Stafford is generally a very healthy & happy animal!

MPD (2)

1 Sutcliffe’s Pendlestaff Firestorm, this r/w dog has a nice outline & is well balanced at this early stage of his development. Short coupled with level topline. Nice proportioned head, correct mouth & dark eyes makes him an attractive boy, handled well & in lovely condition;

2 Clough’s Pendestaff Thunderstruck, another pleasing r/w puppy dog, with much in common with 1 in terms of conformation & overall development. Not surprising as I subsequently discovered these two boys are litter brothers! Piped at the post as 1 just had it on ring presence on the day.

PD (3)

1 Stone & Bruton’s Zakstaff Rumour Has It, this 11 month old b/br lad certainly had it for me! Lovely head shape, short muzzle, prominent stop & plenty of depth & breadth to skull complimented by correct clean mouth & teeth. Dark eyes with keen expression & neat ears. Well laid back shoulders, sufficient rib for age & well developed hindquarters. Moved well but showed he has a mind of his own on occasions! BP;

2 Lamb & Mayo’s Staffwize Musketeer, another youngster about to leave his puppy days behind him this dog has a pleasing outline, well shaped head & good eye placement, dark eyes. Handled well;

3 Miller’s Skyland Detonator.

JD (6)

1 Stanway’s Waystaff What A Cracker, well balanced, Standard br/w dog, straight front & good depth of brisket. Good head shape, dark round eyes & tidy ears, very alert expression. Well laid shoulders, well sprung ribs & strong hindquarters. Moved with drive & handled to advantage;

2 Asker’s Dazmarnic I’ll Ave Arf, r/w dog, strong head with b/m, dark eyes & neat ears. Clean lipped with correct teeth. Good lay of shoulders, level topline & well defined hindquarters but 1 took it on movement;

3 Macdonald’s Magical Apache.

YD (4)

1 Beeby’s Watson’s Geordiestaff Dynamo Dexter, dark brindle dog with well proportioned head. Round dark eyes, tidy ears, good under jaw, correct bite & teeth. Balanced appearance overall with adequate bone & muscle for age. Showing promise for the future;

2 Monestina’s Itcheboren Celtic Obsession, lovely shaped head on this red dog. Strong under jaw with correct bite & teeth. Strong & fit of body, straight front & good depth of brisket with nice tuck up muscular hindquarters. Very close decision;

3 Crosby’s Quatros Red Archibald.

PGD (13)

1 Hart’s Albemarbull Red Riot, good strong head with b/m on this r/w dog. Good ear placement, dark eyes & correct dentition, short muzzle & pronounced stop. Tidy & well balanced throughout. One to look out for;

2 Torostaff Our Billy at Joemikeste’s, well developed b/br dog in fit condition. Good head in shape & size, clean mouth & correct bite & teeth. Well spring ribs, muscular hindquarters, level topline. Well handled;

3 Price’s Little Beau Geste.

LD (9)

Very strong class of quality Staffords, making it a pleasure to judge but also meant splitting hairs when placing the dogs!

1 Smith’s Staffash The Hurricane, r/w pied dog who took my eye from the start. Lovely balance throughout. Sufficient bone, short coupled, level topline held on the move. Well sprung ribcage & good tuck up. Well muscled quarters & good bend of stifle meant this dog was athletic on the move. Strong well shaped head, correct teeth & bite, dark eyes & good ears gave the keenest of expressions to complete the picture. Worked well with his handler. RCC;

2 Bruton’s Zakstaff Black Baron, another super quality dog with a strong masculine head of correct proportions of muzzle to skull. Dark eyes, clean lipped & correct dentition. Clean front, good depth of brisket, lovely lay of shoulder, well muscled rear. Moved well & handled expertly;

3 English’s Engstaff Hey Joe.

OD (12) Another superb class presenting the same conundrums!

1 Plant’s Ch Kyraloebis Italian Gigolo, handsome b/br dog oozing quality. This beautiful specimen owned the ring. Superb head, well proportioned with pronounced cheek muscles, well defined stop, correct muzzle to skull measurements & good depth of jaw. Large teeth, scissor bite, clean mouth, darkest of eyes & rose ears affording lovely alert expression. Body of balance & substance, lovely clean front & shoulders, strong rearquarters all combining as they should to allow the dog to move with power while holding topline. Good blend of bull & terrier. Behaved impeccably in his class & in group ring where he was shortlisted. CC & BOB;

2 Hedges’ Bogovcic’s Suurisuun Boppinghams Birulai, quality Standard w/r dog who pushed hard for top honours. Great head in shape & size, dark eyes, neat rose ears & clean mouth. Good scissor bite, correct dentition & underjaw. Nice flow of neck to well placed shoulders, good depth of brisket & well boned. Feet to die for! Good conformation, moved with purpose & worked hard to please his handler on the day;

3 Davidson’s Waystaff Dutch Minister.

MPB (6)

1 Waystaff’s Mosstrooper Making Mischief at Waystaff, attractive 9 months r/w pied bitch. Well shaped head with good muzzle to skull ratio for stage of development. Correct clean mouth, dark eye, lovely expression. Good conformation, well boned & pleasing in profile. Look out for this smart girl in future. BPB;

2 Macdonald’s Tagstane Who Says, another promising quality puppy. B/br with lovely head shape, good stop & muzzle, dark eye, neat ears, good mouth & correct bite. Nicely proportioned body in line with age & moved well on the day;

3 Bryan’s Falkirkstaff Galadriel.

PB (5)

1 Rougestaff Flaming Ice, well presented r/w 10 months bitch, pleasing head shape, dark eye, clean mouth & correct bite. Nice neckline, ribs beginning to spring. Overall proportions good for stage of development;

2 Wilson’s Bullhawk Jessie Jay at North Staff, very close decision. This bl/br girl has lovely head, dark eyes, neat ears, correct mouth & teeth & short muzzle. Liked her front, well boned & confident in the ring;

3 Woollley’s Bethaleese Call Me Darla.

JB (10)

Very strong class of quality bitches so splitting hairs to place them!

1 Asker’s Dazmarnic Kiss N Tell. Compact & strong but feminine red bitch with great pigmentation. Liked her overall balance & proportions. Expressive dark eyes, near ears, short coupled mature body. Strong hindquarters, fit condition & covered the ground well & with purpose;

2 Jones’s Virtutis Belle. Standard bl/br girl just out of puppy but strutting her stuff with confidence in the ring. Nice front & bone, short coupled, level topline. Attractive head, good mouth & dentition, dark eyes, neat ears giving her an alert expression. In lovely condition. Only a gnat’s whisker between these two;

3 Butler’s Seenworstaff Storm Warning at Joemikeste.

YB (6)

1 Jackson’s Aust Ch Strongstorm Style Is Eternal at Jackabyte, this dark brindle lady showed herself off in style to live up to her name. Beautiful head shape, expressive dark eyes, good mouth with correct bite & large teeth. Lovely flow of neck to well laid back shoulders, short coupled, excellent muscletone. A pleasure to go over such a fit bitch. Moved with purpose & handled to best advantage. Liked her a lot & considered for top honours;

2 Miller’s Skyland Tikka Boo, bl/br bitch. Not as feminine as 1 but nice head, correct mouth and well proportioned. Would like to see her fitter;

3 Waltham’s Jagstaff Bon Ami.

PGB (4)

1 Davidson’s Waystaff Danish Delight, liked the well shaped head on this girl, strong enough but feminine too. Clean mouth & correct bit. Neat ears gave alert expression. Good front, well muscled quarters, moved well. Lovely pigmentation with dark nails on white feet;

2 Gold’s Ashbull Ofee, attractive b/br bitch with toned & well muscled body, lots of rib & shared many of the attributes of 1 so not easy to choose between them but preferred the head shape of 1;

3 Holden’s Alport Miss Euphoria.

OB (6)

1 Davies’ Ch Sebsonic Shinealight at Stormbull, I have admired this bitch from the ringside on several occasions & it was a pleasure to go over her & find out that she is as good as she looks from a distance! Gleaming b/br lady with superb head in breadth, depth & overall proportions. Lovely balance of bull & terrier. Correct clean mouth, dark eyes & neatest of ears gave the expression & the ring presence came from the ‘look at me’ attitude. Beautiful body outline, fit & well muscled, moved with drive. Couldn’t take my eyes off her! CC;

2 Hirst & Bibby’s Ch Taraiel Ciara, another beautiful b/br/w lady with everything going for her. Fits the Standard well. Lovely head & mouth, good conformation, short coupled & oozes quality. Just didn’t have the overall oomph of 1. RCC;

3 Mason’s Ch Dare To Dream
