STAFFORDSHIRE BULL JUDGE EAST OF ENGLAND 15

Staffordshire Bull Terriers

I thoroughly enjoyed my day judging the breed, I thank each & every exhibitor for their time & effort to seek my opinion today, I hope, win or lose, you all felt I gave every exhibit equal time & consideration. I was pleased with the 4 principle winners all of which were top quality exhibits & a pleasure for any judge to award high honours to. Many things change within the breed, but the one thing that remains consistent is the temperament, never a grumble or a sideways look, every single exhibit a pleasure to go over. I found no overriding health issues, the surface of the ring was pretty ordinary to say the least, but none of the others looked any better either, some exhibits would have benefited from a little more schooling particularly when asked to move around the ring, I’m not one that needs an exhibit to run on rails, but a half decent level of control is a must have.

MPD (2)

1 Partlett’s Starolestaff Jokers Smile, red with white chest exhibit, first thing that strikes you about him is his lovely deep rich coat colour & complementary dark pigmentation, nicely shaped head with well-set ears, his body proportions are good for his stage of development & it all holds together on the move;

2 Emmett’s Druidhawk God Of War, b/br exhibit, a heavier all round type than 1, but that’s not to say he’s overdone in any way. Strength in head is apparent on first look although his ears are a little higher set, good straight front, & is pretty well balanced body wise, his movement today proved to be a little erratic.

PD (3,1)

1 Rowe & South’s Illori Akinlana, b/br of good size & type, no exaggeration & he presents a balanced profile when stacked & indeed when viewed in his natural stance. Neat head that would maybe benefit from a better eye shape. A pleasing front, good depth of rib & his rear angulation is correct. Pleasing profile with level topline when asked to move, plenty of drive. BPD;

2 Papworth’s Tiezelstaffs Moonshine Bay, red with white exhibit, again he’s a heavier set type than 1 in this class, pleasing head proportions with a slightly heavy ear, his dentition is good, behind the collar, his rib is good, profile proportions are OK & decent rear angulation, I found his movement not to be his fortune today.

JD (5)

1 Thomas’ Cazomic Crime Fighter, predominantly red exhibit with a white blaze. He hides nothing in his lovely tight fitting coat, great when viewed in profile, his rib is deep & sprung, topline level & back length correct. Straight in front, classic head shape with that cherished quality of a dark mask. The correlation between front & rear angulation becomes apparent when moving. So near to being one of the stars of the day, seemed to give his handler a hard time with his somewhat over exuberance;

2 Hirst & Bibby’s Taraiel Busta Rhymes, brindle exhibit, this lad has plenty of virtue on offer too. He has a neat typical head with well-set ears & dark round eye, his front is straight, although I found it to be a little narrow when compared to 1. I thought him to have good body proportions, his rib is good & angulations correct, sound mover when asked;

3 I Akinlana.

YD (4)

1 Butler’s Ramblestaff Cos I Could, black with white blaze on chest. I really liked this exhibit’s profile, both front & side on. His head is that of a classic male Stafford, his stop, well set neat ears & big white teeth all enhancing the picture, his front is straight & his feet turn out correctly. His body proportions completely in balance show strength for size without any coarseness or exaggeration, good correlation between front & rear angulation. Didn’t put his best performance in on the move today but I saw enough to prove his soundness & virtue aplenty. RCC;

2 Bogovcic’s Kegs On Legs Fearsome Devil, b/br, this boy is also in possession of a typical head of similar proportions to 1, he too has a straight front, where I did find him to differ was behind the collar where he is a little longer in the back & has not as well developed 2nd thigh, that said, he was presented in first class condition & has sound movement;

3 Mitchell & Ashton’s Our Little Cracker.

GD (4,2)

1 Davies’ Ginstean Man Of God, black with white on chest, of good standard size & type, good straight front, neat well shaped head without exaggeration, another that I felt would benefit from a bit more rib when he’s viewed in profile, he has good rear quarters & angulation. Turned out in top condition & a sound chap on the move;

2 Waltham’s Dringshaw Marquez, red with white chest. Heavier set dog than 1, & in turn a little longer in the back, lovely headed dog with great pigmentation on muzzle area. Seemed intent on giving his handler a hard time he was a little erratic on the move.

PGD (15,1)

1 Membury’s Mitzstaff Crazy Cuz, b/br, quality exhibit that was the standout in this class for me, a picture of balance & substance in his tight fitting shiny coat, well developed rearquarters & a well bent stifle. Head is strong but in balance with the rest of him, straight front with no looseness, powerful & sound mover;

2 Davis’ Garforth King, brindle exhibit who has a slightly larger profile than 1, once more I find him too to be a picture of strength for size without any exaggeration, slightly better definition & spring of rib would enhance him, but his undoubted virtues come together to present another powerful sound mover;

3 Downes’ Waystaff Double Trouble.

LD (15,4)

1 Houghton’s Belterstaffs Ginger Joe, red with white chest exhibit, nice standard sized dog carrying good type & construction, nicely shaped head with well-set ears & a dark mask to compliment, straight in front, would benefit from a tad deeper brisket, he’s well-proportioned behind the collar, in both length of back & rib, his rear is well developed & his whole picture is enhanced by a shiny jacket, a sound mover who pushed hard in the challenge;

2 Payton’s Tonpay Barmy Army, brindle with white flash on chest, exhibit of compact size & stature, he has a well-shaped & proportioned head, his front is straight & feet turn out slightly, his body is made up of a good rib & length of back, to my mind a tad more length of leg would just enhance his balance, his rearquarters are so very well developed, good on the move & his coat condition & fitness top draw;

3 Horton & Dunn’s Albermarbull Running Riot.

OD (16,5)

1 Branten’s Int Ch Frisian Staff’s Enter Sandman, b/br, this exhibit stole the show for me today, viewed from any angle he presents a picture of power for size without any exaggeration or coarseness, his head is all male, lovely stop & his ears are neat & well set not heavy at all. I must mention this exhibit’s dentition, his teeth are large, white & well set with large canines to compliment a perfect example of what is required. Straight in front with well boned legs, when viewed from above behind the collar this lad has it all there, it all flows nicely together at the right points with the right amount, his front & rear angulation work together in unison when he’s asked to move, producing drive that looks effortless & just that look that he has it all going on, he was presented to me in the peak of physical condition. CC & BOB;

2 Fulford’s Elitebulls Heartbreaker for Regalbull, b/br, nice exhibit presented in top order, he has nice clean cut lines & is free from exaggeration in any department, nice head with well-set neat ears to give a typical expression, straight in front, a little finer in bone than 1, enough rib & a well-developed rear, good front & rear angulation producing a sound moving exhibit;

3 Stone & Bruton’s Zakstaff Rumour Has It.

MPB (6,2)

1 Taylor’s Niatona Nanny Mcphee, red with white on front exhibit, fine example showing neat lines all round, nice clean head with neat ears, & dark mask to enhance, her front is good & true, correct body proportions & front & rear angulation correspond nicely, once settled she moves well, a lovely minor puppy;

2 Gregory’s Alport Rememberance, b/br exhibit, another who’s clean lines please on first inspection, nice feminine head shape, ears a little heavy, good front & body shape when viewed in profile, lovely tight fitting coat in great order;

3 Hammond’s Hammystaff Hera.

PB (5,2)

1 Payton’s Tonpay Anythin Could Happen, b/br with white blaze on chest, she’s a nice puppy that is well up to size height wise, her head is typical, showing good proportions & complimented with well-set ears. Body wise, she’s not overdone in any way & is balanced throughout. She is soundly constructed, holds her topline well when moving, put a good stint in to gain her BPB & BP;

2 Gabel’s Jelly Bean of Spirit-Staff’s, b/br exhibit of a smaller frame & lighter construction of 1. That said, she displays a picture of good balance & clean outline, typical head with well set eyes & ears, decent in profile, moved soundly;

3 Thomas’ Sunnystone Bit Of Brimstone.

JB (16,3)

1 Manito’s Dynastaff Pure Science, b/br exhibit of pleasing outline, her head is typical with well-set ears & eyes, lovely straight front & she has nice strength of bone, balanced in profile with a well-developed & well angulated rear. When asked to move the correlation between front & rear is good & her soundness is clear to see. She put in a good shift to win this competitive class;

2 Plant’s Kyraloebis Kat Von Dee, b/br exhibit, of a slightly heavier type than 1, she is strongly headed with slightly heavy ears, her front is straight & true & behind her neck she is a picture of power, I would like a little less angulation of the rear to complete her outline, moved OK although seemed to be a reluctant participant at times;

3 Thomson’s Starolestaff Lady Bea with Siriustaff.

YB (9,1)

1 Canavan’s Boldstock Am I Bovered, brindle exhibit showing clean lines, good proportions & shape in general. Typically shaped head with ears neat & well set, good front with decent depth to her brisket, well angulated front & rear, she’s turned out in top condition & is a sound, powerful mover;

2 Woolley’s Bethaleese’s My Girl, b/br with white on chest, a slightly heavier type than 1, a lot to like about her & is a top mover, I would have liked her to be in a harder physical condition to challenge 1;

3 Plant’s Bethaleese’s Black Bettina at Kyraloebis.

GB (2)

1 Hirst & Bibby’s Taraiel Lorde, brindle with white chest & front legs, first thing that stands out on her is her coat & condition, she was shining. No exaggerations to this girl, her head is strong enough to be balanced with her body, her front clean & straight, profile is typical with good fore & aft angulation. Well-developed rearquarters. Sound mover;

2 S Lady Bea with S, brindle exhibit, she has a lovely head shape, dark eye & neat, well set ears, true front & her side profile is good, well angulated rear producing drive when on the move.

PGB (8,4)

1 Williams’ Canakey Sweet Cool Delight, white with red exhibit, one to look at beyond her markings as they should not detract from her soundness of construction. She has a typical head with good proportions, neat ears & clean lip. Her front is straight & with good width, something plenty seem to lack. Her body is made up with well sprung rib, short back & a well-developed rear, good angulations & sound mover;

2 Wilson’s Bullhawk Jessie Jay at Northstaff, b/br with white on chest, powerfully headed exhibit presented in good order, she has well set ears which she can use to her advantage although seemingly reluctant to do so. She has a straight front & good body proportions although I considered her a little longer in back than 1, she moves soundly also;

3 Tucker’s Stafftastic Grace Delilah.

LB (5)

I have to say that I could have quite happily awarded the first 4 in this class a CC today.

1 Rogers’ Berrystock Charlies Angel, b/br with white on chest. An exhibit of outstanding virtue. She is a picture of strength, type & balance no matter what angle you choose to view her from. Her lines are clean cut & her fitness gives her a tremendous definition. Strongly headed but not “doggy” in anyway, loved her stop & ear setting. Front has good width & is straight, she is well ribbed & is of correct length in back. Well angled both front & rear with well-developed quarters, sound on the move. Outstanding. CC;

2 Branten’s Sennyards Love At First Sight, b/br exhibit also possessing outstanding virtue, I could easily just repeat my observations on the 1st placed exhibit here, they both had what I deemed to be what the Standard asks for, she was also presented to me in the pink of conditioning. When comparing them both together it came down to a preference for a tad better eye shape on 1 giving a slightly (&I mean slightly) better expression. Lovely. RCC;

3 Butler’s Seenworstaff Storm Warning at Joemikeste.

OB (10,3)

1 Hirst & Bibby’s Ch Taraiel Ciara, b/br exhibit of obvious quality, she possess good all round conformation & balance. She has the desired strength & bone without any coarseness. Lovely head on her but has a reluctance to use her ears, I liked her side profile & she excels on the move, she seemed a bit off the pace in the final line-up here today;

2 Mason’s Ch Dare To Dream, b/br exhibit of a slightly lighter build than 1, but that’s not to say she is lacking in any way. She has the straightest of fronts with good depth to brisket, clean well-proportioned head with neat ears, good body proportions & correct angulations front & rear, sound mover, just preferred substance of 1 today;

3 Mignano-Fricker & Fricker’s Pantycelyn Just A Dream of Calavey.
