STAFFORDSHIRE BULL JUDGE EAST OF ENGLAND 16

Staffordshire Bull Terriers

Firstly, I would like to thank the committee of East of England Ch show for giving me the opportunity to award my first CCs in the UK. Special mention to Ms Julie Robb for her assistance with ongoing correspondence keeping me up to date with show arrangements & making my wife & I feel very welcome on the day. Also to my chief steward Mrs Karon Jackson & Mr Martin Johnson for their expertise in keeping the ring run like clockwork making my job that much easier, thanks guy’s. I thoroughly enjoyed my day & found some good specimens of the breed. The animals on the whole were of good quality.

When I do a critique on a dog I believe the exhibitor requires knowing any negatives as well as positives in my assessment of their dog to help them understand my placing. But it is only my opinion on the day.

Heads in general were good with correct dentition, only a few to cause concern. Body & soundness was very good, but movement needs to be addressed. There were also a few dirty dogs & some could have their teeth cleaned, things that can mean the difference in a placing. Finally, I would like to thank the exhibitors for their entry & sporting manner in which they accepted my decisions. It was a day I will remember in years to come fondly, especially having a few special friends especially Mike Homan attend ringside to support me on my day was an extra bonus.

MPD

1 Kylestaff Moonlight Shadow at Windstaff, b/br. Very tidy pup showing all the attributes for a puppy at this age. Nice size with good length of leg & balanced throughout. Head has depth & width with strength of muzzle, & still remains clean. Dark round eye, well set to look straight ahead. Small rose ears completed that nice expression we look for. Strong neck & straight front with good bone, nice spring of rib, short coupled with a level topline. Well let down in hocks & enough turn of stifle, correct tailset. Well handled & turned out in good condition, pleased to award him BP. One to watch for future;

2 Rubericla Bone Crusher, b/br. Not as strong as 1, being a bit younger. Clean head with good bite, dark eye & rose ears. Straight front with enough depth of brisket, short back would prefer more spring of rib. Well angled behind. Moved OK.

PD

1 Quatros Ironclad Buddy, tiger brindle with white. Cobby type with good balance. Nice shaped head, deep & broad with clean strong muzzle & good bite. Lovely dark round eye, rose ears set well on good top skull. Strong neck with a good lay of shoulder & straight front. Nice bone & width of forechest. Plenty of spring of rib & strong level topline. Short coupled with muscular hindquarters. Could have more turn of stifle. Overall a tidy puppy, moved true out & back;

2 Gusonstaff Lucky Luianco, b/br. More up on leg than 1 but still with type just not as strong all over. Clean head with dark eye & rose ears, correct bite. Straight front of nice round bone & tight feet. Level top line would just prefer more angulation behind & shorter in hock;

3 Trufflestaff Papinashuash.

JD

1 Maxsta Prince Of Celts, b/br. With great breed type, substance & balance spot on for me! Head has good depth & width with plenty of top skull. Powerful muzzle, strong & clean with scissor bite. Lovely dark round eye, well set to look straight at you. Small rose ears finished off that lovely expression. Strong neck widening to his great front with plenty of forechest & depth of brisket, strong bone & tight feet. Correct lay of shoulder, blending into his great spring of rib. Strong level topline which he held on the move, short coupled, angled croup & low set tail. Good hind angulations, short hocks & strong second thigh. Although a bit naughty today he moved with purpose when he had his mind on the job. A pleasure to award him the CC & I’m sure it will be the first of many. Just lost out on conditioning for BOB;
