STAFFORDSHIRE BULL JUDGE MIDLAND COUNTIES 14

Staffordshire Bull Terriers

My sincere thanks to Midland Counties for inviting me to judge Staffordshire Bull Terriers & allowing me to award CCs for the first time. Thank you to my two lady stewards for all their help. My thanks to all exhibitors for allowing I to access their stock, it was an honour & a privilege, giving me a great entry of 142 dogs, one note of sadness is that my friend the late Roger Pugh (Rocellio) was not there to give his casting eye on me! Over the years, my ideals have changed regarding Staffords, this breed never stops educating you if you let it, there is room for all styles of Staffords but in my opinion we need to stop & think! Type is the essences of the breed please don’t lose it, & bitches are the life line to the breed, I personally think we need to address the very light weight fine bitches, not to say to go to the other extreme but to look for the middle of the road animals. Strength without exaggeration.

MPD (6,2a)

1 Hirst & Bibby’s Tarail Buster Rhymes, b/br dog, a well up to size young dog with a lovely expression, good skull & neat ears, correct bite, decent muzzle. In an ideal world I would like a deeper under jaw, good straight front with good legs & bone on neat feet, a well developed ribcage, level topline, a good turn of stifle with well muscled thighs, neat tail, coat in good order, moved with ease. BPD;

2 Bowler’s Kyraloebis The Bogus Man at Trelynbow, b/br, again a well up to size dog, very similar to 1, good well shaped head, good bite, neat ears, decent muzzle & jaw, straight well boned front, feet OK, not the body development of 1, good rib, level topline moved well, just not the ring presence of 1 on the day;

3 McDermott’s Macsdermus midnight caller.

PD (4)

1 Hines’ Nettleworth No Way Hon Zay, b/br, a good up to size puppy with a good expression & head shape, decent muzzle & jaw, correct bite & tidy ears, straight front with ample width on good legs, feet ok, decent body developing it will come with maturity, topline good stifle well bent giving a good out line, coat in good condition moved well enough;

2 Woollett’s Assilio Red Alert, r/w, super type to this dog, great head & expression, dark mask, good strong muzzle, correct bite & good under jaw, good round bone, his front is not his fortune but could tighten with the right exercise & maturity, decent brisket for a young dog, good ribcage, middle cast in back, good stifles, well let down at hocks, moved with ease;

3 Beaufoy’s Wyrefare Mr Jim.

JD (7)

1 Bergundthal & Rana’s But’s Charming Ruffians I Don’t Care, b/br, top size dog, carrying excellent type, good strong head, powerful muzzle & jaw, correct bite, nice eye placement, plenty of lift, good straight front on well boned legs, brisket starting to develop, good ribcage of correct length, topline good, well developed rear, good physical condition coat in tip top order, moved with ease;

2 Karlson & Beaufoy’s Jewelstaff Rocker Billy, b/br/w Standard young dog, good head & expression when he uses his ears which are neat, correct head proportions with a good bite, plenty of width to his chest, front good on decent legs, topline OK, well off for rib, would prefer more width to his thigh, a little erratic on the move;

3 Miller’s Deldena’s Black Shadow.

YD (10,2a)

1 Buchan’s Happystaff Black Sabbath, b/br, a dog from the lower end of the standard, a very deep through head of correct type, good round eye, ears a little untidy, strong muzzle & deep under jaw with a good bite, clean straight well boned front on decent feet, rib developing, more middle cast in back, tendency to tighten up when examined, needs time to develop, well bent stifle, well let down, moved OK;

2 Thomas’ Biggleswick Funky Devil, w/r markings, nice young dog, decent head, tidy ears, lovely dark eye, correct bite, very clean, front OK, good legs on good feet, good body, short coat in good order, in good physical condition, to me his body has matured & taken a little away from his head;

3 Membury’s Mitzstaff Union Jack.

PGD (4,1)

1 Ridley’s Jagsstaff the Gardsman, r/f/w, top end strong dog, very powerfully built, good strong head, dark mask, correct bite, strong muzzle & jaws, super dark eye, broad straight front, good depth to brisket, good well boned legs, decent feet, well sprung ribs, middle cast in back, a good turn of stifle well let down, coat good short & harsh, in my opinion could possibly do with losing a pound or two, moved well;

2 Evans’ Hammystaff Fire Blade, r/w, a cleaner style of dog than 1, good head, neat ears, nice dark eye, dark mask, a shade longer in muzzle than 1, good legs & feet decent ribs, topline OK, I would have like to see more bend to stifle as to let down hock, moved OK;

3 Miller’s Skyland Detonator.

LD (18,3)

1 Fulford’s Elitebulls Heartbreaker for Regalbull, b/br. I surprised myself in this class with this dog, I didn’t think he’d be masculine enough but actually going over him he is a well put together dog, good skull with neat ears & lovely eyes giving a good expression, he has good head proportions, good bite & a clean foreface, decent muzzle & jaw, leading into a good front, straight well boned legs on good feet, decent neck into good shoulders, correct length of rib well sprung, short coupled, topline good, well muscled thighs, a good turn of stifle & well let down at hocks, in good physical condition, coat in good order, moved with ease. A dog with very clean lines, not exaggerated in any way. A pleasure RCC;

Nothing over done about this dog at all, good clean head, good ears & expression, good bite, clean fore face, front OK, decent legs & feet, good ribcage of correct length, well sprung ribs, good rear, well let down at hocks, a very sound mover, a lass not much sparkle to day;
