STAFFORDSHIRE BULL JUDGE PAIGNTON 19

Firstly many thanks to the society for inviting me to judge at their show, it really is such a lovely part of the country especially when the weather is kind. Secondly to the exhibitors who kindly gave me the opportunity to assess their charges. The entry was a poor one in terms of numbers but I was happy with my winners. Fitness levels let a few exhibits down who may have been placed higher had they been in top form.

PD (2)

1. Desmond’s Elitebull Charger. Compact Bl/br of standard size. Chiselled headpiece with small neat ears. Dark round eye. Blocky muzzle though I would prefer a touch more length. Good depth of underjaw. Straight front and good bone on neat feet. He has good rib and depth to brisket. Holds his topline on the move. Possessing good muscle tone for a youngster. Moved and handled well.

2. Antonio’s Gazstaff’s Man In Black For Antoniostaff. Bl/br of similar type. Slightly more lift than 1. Nice head and expression. Correct mouth with big canines. Well placed ear and eye. Adequate rib and correct depth of brisket for age. Front is well boned on neat feet. Close coupled with good bend of stifle. but not as firm as 1.

JD (7)

1. Johnson’s Ellchansha Hotshot. Gleaming Bl br with a really appealing expression. Super clean head with darkest of eye. Muzzle of correct length and neat ears well set. Excellent dentition. He has enough width to front with evident forechest. Brisket to elbow and good spring of rib . Strong neck and good lay back of shoulder. Nice bend to stifle with good muscle development. He is close coupled and nicely cut up in loin. Moved well today keeping a level topline. If this lad can learn to enjoy this showing game he should do well.

2. Briant & Nicholson’s Ballindona Roger The Dodger. What a gorgeous colour this stripey brindle is. Pleasing head of good shape with neat rose ears. Strong muzzle but would prefer a touch more depth of underjaw. Loved the balance of this dog, stood foresquare and looked good from all angles. Well boned front and tight well padded feet. Ample rib and correct depth of brisket. His topline is level which he retained on the move. Moved nicely behind just a shame he threw his front all over the place so had to settle for 2nd place today. Nice dog.

3. Davis’ Boldstock Gee Tar Man At Sharmara. Bl/br of substance. Strong and well boned. Liked his head and expression. Head is of good proportions with strong blocky muzzle housing correct dentition. Broad front with well padded feet. Ample rib and brisket. Well bent stifle and good muscle tone to rear. Moved ok. Loses topline slightly on the move. Good rapport with handler. Preferred the substance and balance of 2. BPD

YD (2,1)

1. Rhodes & Pritchard’s Taraiel Reaper At Teracota. This dog was put down in rock hard condition, he’s a credit to the owners. Clean head of good make and shape. Neat ears which he used well. Clean blocky foreface with correct mouth. Correct depth of brisket and enough rib. Good turn of stifle and neat feet. Strong back end showing well defined hams and his forequarters are straight and well boned. He has strong pasterns with the desired slight turn out of foot. Neck is muscular and short without looking stuffy. Strong in loin, slight slope at croup leading to correct onset of tail. Moved ok both ways. Makes his handler work. Just prefer a touch more all over.

PGD (3)

1. Hunter’s Rowenda Brown Bomber. Strong headed dark brindle with neat ear. Standard size with good bone and ample rib leading to a defined waist. Good strength of muzzle though could be cleaner. Excellent rib and brisket giving plenty of heart and lung room. Straight front and level topline. Close coupled with a well defined waist. Strong backend and moved ok. In hard condition.

2. Moore’s Tiades Black Prince. Standard sized Bl/br, a little plain in head with dark eye and ok ear carriage. Would prefer more strength and slightly less length of muzzle. Good mouth. Enough width of chest and a good depth of brisket. Straight forequarters with enough bone to balance, adequate rib and is close coupled. He was in nice coat condition and he has good pigmentation. He has a well muscled rear, good bend of stifle, moved ok with correct tailset and carriage.

3. Devlin’s Tightlines Dusty’s Trail

LD (6,1)

1. Wilson’s Northstaff Notorious. Top sized Bl/br. Pleasing expression with good strength of muzzle and underjaw. Good mouth. Skull is broad and deep through. He has a dark eye and neat well placed rose ear. Well bodied with well sprung rib. Correct depth of brisket but would prefer a broader front. His feet are tight and well padded and forelimbs are straight and well boned. Excellent topline stood and on the move. His pigmentation is good. He nips in at loin and has a well bent stifle. Put down in good nick. Moved steadily by his lady handler.

2. Dawe’s Marstaff Sundance Kid. Red dog of substance. A more powerful bodied dog than winner. Strong head with correct ratio to muzzle, thin rose ear and good eye placement. Strong under jaw and good bite. Would prefer a cleaner muzzle and better pigmentation. Compact body with good spring of rib. Stifle well bent. Coat close and short. Another with an excellent topline. Powerful rear quarters that covered the ground well. In excellent condition.

3. Preston’s Tillcarr Fire Starter

OD (7,1)

Close call between these two.

1. Johnson’s Tillcarr Fire Coanda. This kennel knows how to produce good dog after good dog and this one is no exception. Bl/br with a cracking headpiece, loved his expression which was keen and alert taking in everything around him. He has a well placed eye and neat rose ear which all help to enhance. He also has well developed cheek muscles and a clean muzzle with good width/depth of underjaw which housed good sized teeth. This lad has a bang on straight front, good bone and enough width of chest. He has neatest of feet which are well padded and strong pasterns. Correct depth of brisket with adequate rib. Powerful neck leading on to a level topline. His profile impressed me, clean off the shoulder and without exaggeration in any department. He possesses just the right amount of bone and substance to balance. Strong loin and muscular hind quarters. His tail set is correct as is the carriage. Moved positively not putting a foot wrong holding his topline in motion. My pleasure to award him the CC, his second. Best of luck with him.

2. Desmond’s Elitebull’s Challenger. DRCC. Upstanding topsize Bl/br of quality in super condition. A lot of work has gone into this lad that’s for sure. Another with a strong masculine head with a beautiful expression. He has a lovely head that is deep through with correct skull to muzzle ratio. Ears are neat and well placed and his eye is set well to look straight ahead. Altogether producing an excellent expression. Broad and straight front with good bone. Neck is strong broadening at the shoulder which is well laid with no looseness at the elbow. Well padded feet with strong pasterns. Correct depth of brisket with ample rib leaving plenty of heart and lung room. Rib tapers back to strong loin. His muscular rear lends to the free, powerful movement required. Just preferred the side profile of winner. Two very nice specimens who I’m sure will fight it out for top honours on a regular basis. Unfortunately this worthy champion had to settle for the RCC today.

3. Schack’s On The Highway To Hell Great N Glory

SpBB (1)

1. Hall’s Legendstaff Sweet Lady Cum Geordiestaff. Fittest exhibit of the day. Light framed, classy Bl/br with a lovely headshape, clean foreface and good depth of underjaw. Straight front with enough bone to balance. Neat feet and black nails. Compact body in gleaming condition. Good Spring of rib and correct depth to brisket, well turned out. She without a doubt gets plenty of exercise, hard as nails, fabulous condition, I take my hat off to the owner. Moved ok. Not a lot of her and would have just preferred a smidge more all round.

MPB (4)

1. Breckell’s Chiswelstaff Penny Black. Bl/br puppy who is already top size so hopefully she’ll just fill out on maturity and doesn’t shoot up anymore. Nicely balanced feminine head of good shape. Foreface has strength with good underjaw and she has a correct bite. Ears are well placed, neat and she used them well. Her forequarters are straight, well boned and enough width across the chest. Neat feet well padded. Enough rib and brisket for age. Moved nice and steady for a young pup holding her topline.

2. Marshallsay’s Fergustaff Drama Queen. Smaller fawn /white of 7 months. Showing nice muscle tone to rear end. Decent head with clean muzzle. Lovely dark eyes with dark rims. Good width of chest and straight well boned forequarters. Topline ok. Good bend of stifle. Preferred the outline of 1.

3. Auroyer & Cristofani’s Orphan Red Child.

PB (8)

1. Whitley’s Ginstean Epitome Of Beauty. Pretty Bl/br pup of 10 months. Lovely blend of bull and terrier. Nicely balanced throughout. Head of correct proportions with dark eye and neat ear providing a very pleasing expression. Clean in foreface with good width / depth of underjaw. Brisket and rib developing nicely giving a pleasing body shape. Straight front when handler doesn’t stand her too wide. Good angulation to front and rear. In nice condition with firm backend. Moved well which sealed her placing over 2.

2. Wilson’s Elitebull Elysian Dream At Kalverin. Attractive Bl/br bitch who knows her job already. Good expression and head shape with correct dentition. She has lovely ear carriage and strong muzzle and plenty of underjaw. She has a straight front and good rib development with a nice width to chest. Her topline is ok and she is close coupled with well defined waist. Good rear angulation and toned rear quarters. Finished off with correct tailset. Just preferred the better front movement on 1.

3. Hands & Freeman’s Gazstaff’s Black Velvet At Skyestaff

JB (5)

Hardest and most competitive class of the day.

1. Johnson’s Ellchansha Once Upon A Time JW. BRCC. Bl/br bitch who has the most stunning headpiece with the coal black piercing eyes. Neatest of ears which just enhance her expression even further. Good skull to muzzle ratio with good strength of foreface. She has a super front which is straight and true with just the right amount of bone to balance. Neat well padded feet with dark nails. Strong neck into well laid shoulder. Decent topline. Would prefer a touch less slope at the croup.....but no dog is perfect. She has adequate bend of stifle and a well muscled backend. Coat was gleaming, she was alert and up on her toes demanding attention. Moved out well. Classy bitch and happy to award her BRCC.

2. Gabel’s Rnb Of Spirit-Staffs. Red with black mask. Another very nice bitch. Lovely feminine head shape with good round eye and neat ear, all lending to a pleasing expression. Good dentition. Clean muzzle though not the strength of 1. Excellent front and good width of chest. Good bone and neat feet, nails could be darker. Excellent spring of rib and bend of stifle. Would have liked her in harder condition. Moved and handled well.

3. Johansson’s Te Ora Magic Eclipse. Res. Jackson’s Jackabyte Bocouture

YB (4)

1. Marshall’s marstaff true grit. Red with black mask. Strong yet feminine bitch with a beautiful head of good proportions. Correct bite and strength of foreface. Round eye, neat ear and distinct stop. Deep brisket and good spring of rib with a well defined waist. Front is straight with enough bone on good feet. She is close coupled and has a good bend of stifle. Well tucked up in loin ....for me a little too much which spoilt her outline. Full of herself on the move making her lady handler work. Moved well once settled.

2. Whitley’s Maxsta’s Sparkling Shoes For Ginstean. Bl/br/wh. Head of strength with good depth of underjaw and correct mouth. Strong muzzle, distinct stop and pronounced cheek muscles. Correct ear carriage and dark eye. She has good bone, straight front and nice width to chest. Strong bodied Neatest of feet which are well padded. Excellent pigmentation and spring of rib. Level topline and good rear quarters well muscled. Not as confident on the move as 1.

3. Hunter’s Mournestaffs Magies Leap. Res. Moore’s Tiades Naughty And Nice

PGB (1)

1. Emery’s Eclypstaff Strange Magic. Very appealing dark brindle bitch who stood alone but still very deserving of the first place. Lovely expression with dark eye and neat rose ear. Good strength of muzzle housing good bite. Short neck leading to a well laid shoulder. Excellent topline held on the move. In gleaming coat condition. She has good rear angulation and good muscle tone to rearquarters. Stood foresquare on well boned limbs. Front was straight on good feet with no weakness at pasterns. Rib well sprung and the right amount of depth to brisket. Nice bitch but lacked a bit of sparkle. Moved and handled well.

LB (2)

1. McDermott & Bernhardsson’s Kings & Queens Over The Moon. Standard sized Bl/br. Feminine head piece, clean fore face with well placed eye and ear. Straight front, good bone and well padded feet. Strong neck into well laid shoulder. Good angulation front and rear. Level topline and good rib. Presented in excellent condition. Moved well.

2. Bailey’s Cwmcalon Armani Code. Bl/br bitch with typical head shape, clean without exaggeration. Front is straight with enough bone. Nice expression with dark eye set to look straight ahead and good ear to compliment. She has enough strength to muzzle and underjaw with a good bite. Sturdy bitch with good brisket and enough rib. Good topline and bend of stifle. Moved ok. Lacked a bit of ‘get up and go’.

OB (4)

1. Johnson’s Ch. Tillcarr Baptism Of Fire JW. Absolutely loved her, my star of the day. Stunning headpiece which is strong yet so feminine with the most wicked expression screaming ‘pick me’. Every time I looked her way there was those piercing black eyes glaring back at me. Neatest of rose ears enhancing her expression even more. Clean, blunt muzzle housing correct scissor bite and her underjaw has good width and depth to it. Straight, well boned front and tight well padded feet. Correct depth of brisket and good ribcage which tapered gently to a light loin. She possesses a level topline which she retained on the move. Good bend of stifle and well let down at the hock. Good muscle tone to rear quarters which propelled her round the ring with ease. Fabulous ring presence, showed her socks off to the very end, no way could I deny her the CC and later BOB over her litter brother. Also went on to be awarded TG3. Congratulations

2. Lee’s Leebee’s Precious JW. Wh/r bitch, stronger bodied bitch than winner. Nice clean head, clean muzzle housing good bite. Well placed ear and eye which could be a shade darker. Strong neck leading to well laid shoulder. Straight front well boned, nails could be shorter. Evident forechest and good width of chest which are lacking in some. Good rib with correct length of sternum. Level topline held on the move. Good angulation front and rear which became evident on the move. Very sound bitch and moves very well which gained her placing over 3rd. Could be fitter.

3. Allard & Lemire’s Staffanatic’s Magicpotion.
