STAFFORDSHIRE BULL JUDGE RICHMOND 16

Staffordshire Bull Terriers

I had a day to remember at Loseley Park, thank you for a warm welcome on arrival & a special thanks to my two stewards who were brilliant. The only downside was the weather, very wet indeed. Judging in a marquee is not ideal but we all got on with it. Thanks to all the exhibitors for giving me the opportunity of going over their dogs & bitches. There still remains a variety of type & size, some lacked muscular definition, others were disappointing on the move. On the positive side there was enough quality to ensure a bright future for the breed in the show ring.

I found no breathing problems on the day, mouths in general were good. I have to comment on the sportsmanship of the exhibitors, at the end of every class there was applause from the ringside & when the major awards were handed out the cheers rang out. We all take the best dog home but sometimes as enthusiasts of the breed it can be just as enjoyable to share in the success of others, well done.

VD (2)

1 Fletcher & Seedhouse’s Jsy Ch Granitangel Zircon Pdh, 9 year old bl/br, still in very good condition, a fine example of the breed, moved & handled well, enjoyed his day out;

2 Smart’s Fifa Blue, 7 year old well boned blue dog with very strong head, good bite, shown in good condition.

MPD (5)

1 Jordan’s Dazmarnic Know What I Mean, well balanced red with promising head, good construction, well bent stifles, should do well;

2 Breckell’s Chiswelstaff Let’s Dance, well pigmented b/br. Early days but has all that is necessary at this stage. I liked his expression, tidy youngster;

3 Jones & Jones’ Rougestaff The Lone Ranger.

PD (5)

1 Thmas’ Biggleswick Gods Me Judge, classy young brindle with a very good head & scissor bite. Good bone, topline & bend of stifle, well ribbed for a youngster, moved OK, one to watch;

2 Membury’s Mitzstaff Armstrong, a cobby bl/br, not as mature as 1 but again has all the essentials, foursquare, good legs & ribs, nice head, good bite, early days;

3 Owen’s Kyraloebis Well Reem at Tagstane.

JD (6,2a)

1 Jones’ Maxstaa Prince Of Celts, a mature young dog of quality. A strong headed bl/br who will go far, good stop, dark eye & powerful muzzle are all part of the picture, straight front, good spring of rib, good bone & sound movement add to it;

2 Lewis’ Biggleswick Splash Of Ginge, this dog was put down in very good condition, what a pleasure to see good muscular development on a young dog. Well balanced with typical head & sound body, another fine prospect;

3 Hopkins’ Trufflestaff Papinashuash.

YD (7,1)

1 Windwood, Tunnah & Kerry’s Nerotoro Dark Element, bl/br of real class, well sculptured head with pronounced stop, dark eye, good bite, neat ears. A good blend of bull & terrier with a well boned body & excellent bent of stifle. Very good on the move, quality dog;

2 Grove’s Manark Murphy’s Law, top class bl/br dog that on his day can trouble the best, bang on standard well chiselled head with ears, eyes & bite all good combined with good construction & showing balance from every angle, makes this dog a joy to go over. Now made up I believe, thoroughly deserved;

OD (16,2)

1 Fulford’s Elitebull Heartbreaker to Regalbull, bl/br of real quality, fits the breed standard like a glove. Great head, all in proportion, neat rose ears, scissor bite, darkest of eyes, excellent pigmentation, neck flows into well boned body. Good layback at shoulder, level topline, good spring of rib, good bone, well bent stifles, well let down at hock, outstanding on the move. Pleased to award him the CC, his third I believe & long overdue;

2 English’s Engstaff Hey Joe, powerful brindle dog, top size but perfectly balanced. He has a cracking head, deep through with well pronounced cheek bumps, very net rose ears, good bite. Straight front, well boned with good legs & feet. Good topline, spring of rib & very fit. Moved with drive & stood out in a quality class, credit to his owner/breeder. RCC;

VB (4,1)

1 Hopkins’ Ch Trufflestaff Monifa Kanika, what more can be said about this icon of the breed, bl/br, one of my all time favourites, just read the breed standard, still knocking them over at 9, star performer. BV;

2 Funnell’s Ch Kewaunee Pocahontas for Powerpack, same age as 1, shown in excellent condition, another top class exhibit that fits the standard. Pushed 1 very hard but had to settle for a very credible second today, well done.

1 Southall’s Beckash Black Ice, b/br, very promising youngster, shapely head, dark eyes, good construction throughout, promising youngster;

2 Asker’s Dazmarnic For Her Indoors, fawn pup with good expression, as with all young pups you just look for the basics which she has & hope she fulfils her potential;

1 Byrne & Gartland’s Carandstaff Moondance, star of the show for me, standard sized bl/br, superb feminine head, perfect proportions, nothing exaggerated. Neat rose ears, dark eyes that look right through you, well defined stop & perfect bite. Front on view excellent, legs straight, neat feet.
