STAFFORDSHIRE BULL JUDGE SKC AUGUST 18

I thoroughly enjoyed my day judging. 100 dogs making 102 entries with only 9 absentees & 1 withdrawn. I was extremely pleased in the way awards were received by, the as always, the ever, enthusiastic spectators. I feel we do put other breeds to shame in the way in which we show support for one another & long may it continue. Grateful thanks go to my efficient ring stewards. I saw a couple of converging canines & a couple of suspect chipped canines. I was a little disappointed to see some, what I class as 'cloddy' dogs, that is far too overdone in the head, with extremely short muzzles, & overall far too 'bully'. Some dogs on the other hand lost out on a higher placing because of their lightness in bone & overall lightness, after all a Stafford is supposed to have plenty of substance. A Stafford to me, should be a blend of the 'bull' & the 'terrier' carrying attributes of both & not a predominance of only the one.

MPD (7,1)

1 Owen's Tagstane Mighty Mouse. 8mth Bl/br/w. Still a baby. Lovely shaped head with dark eyes, neat ears, nice front & shoulders. Bodying up nicely. Developing rear. Moved well. BPD.

PD (5)

Excellent head, dark eyes, good bite, tight lips, good reach of neck leading to well laid shoulders, tidy front & feet, good body, good rear, level topline held on the move, preferred overall head shape of MPD for BPD but believe this young red dog will have a very good future when he reaches maturity with possible higher honours gained.

2 Hurst & Bibby's Taraiel Soulja Boy. 10mth Bl/br. Not processing the same maturity as first, good head, dark eyes, tidy ears, nice front & shoulders. Moved with purpose & presented in a fit condition & was handled extremely well.

3 Funnel & Wiggins' Powerpack Kilgobnet.

JD (8,1)

Very little to chose between the first two & I guess the swap places nearly all the time, both should have very successful show careers as maturity finishes them off.

1 Wilson's Northstaff Notorious. 15mth Bl/br. Excellent head shape, with dark ryes, neat ears, good bite, tight lipped, defined stop. Good reach of neck leading to well-placed shoulders ample bone, tight feet. Ribs beginning to spring, short coupled, tight feet. Presented in a fit condition moved soundly.

2 Johnson's Tillcarr Fire Coanda. 14mth Bl/br. Much of the same attributes as one can be seen here, just a shade longer & excellent front with well laid shoulders. Rear quarters developing nicely, moved with drive. Just didn't seem that happy today.

Close coupled body with sprung ribs, well laid shoulders, well boned forelegs, Parallel movement from both front & rear, with level top-line held, showed himself proudly for his handler, who was in a state of shock when awarded the CC & BOB. I do hope other judges look favourably upon this young dog, as I feel he should attain his title. So very pleased to see him short listed in the group, again, much to the astonishment of his handler.
