STAFFORDSHIRE BULL SOUTHERN COUNTIES 14 Judge(s): MR ZANE SMITH It was in 1975, when I was only 12 years old that I became involved in Staffords, and one of the only publications of the day in the breed (and the best known), was The Stafford magazine published by the Southern Counties SBT Society. MINOR PUPPY DOG 1st Freeman & Davis' SAMTAN SIMBA'S LEGACY. This quality brindle puppy was of correct size and balance. Strong head, short foreface, scissors bite with large teeth. A well muscled puppy with plenty of substance. Short coupled and presented well. 2nd Hopkins & Gabel's GOLDEN BOY TRUFFLESTAFF OF SPIRIT-STAFF. Black brindle puppy who lost out to first on feet and pasterns. This puppy is wellbalanced, short coupled, has excellent spring of rib and well angulated rear and a moderate type of puppy all around. PUPPY DOG 1st Martinez's BULLBROTHERS DR WHO. This puppy was best balanced dog in his class today. He was well presented and handled and was teeming with many virtues including his correct size, muscling and substance. He has excellent depth of brisket and overall strength. Correct head and ears, good scissors bite, correct front and rear. Pleasure to award him BEST PUPPY and I watched later as he went on to place G4 in the Puppy Terrier Group. 2nd Freeman & Davis' SAMTAN SIMBA'S LEGACY. See previous class. JUNIOR DOG 1st Blacker's BULLRICH'S BISMARCK AT CROSSGUNS. This top sized red fawn dog is loaded with quality, breed type and strength. Excellent head shape, neat rose ears, keen expression, dark eyes, strong scissors bite. This young dog has a rare strong topline, and although a bit bigger than most in his class, exudes balance of bull and terrier. He is well muscled and upstanding in every way. Feet are not his strength. It was a pleasure to award him the RCC today and he pushed hard for the CC. 2nd Thomas' BIGGLESWICK FUNKY DEVIL. Red pied dog with very good balance and moderation of type. Not as strong as the first. Very good expression, correctly shaped dark eyes, good topline and well sprung ribs. Ears are ok. Good angles in front and rear and a very competitive dog. YEARLING DOG 1st Thomas' SAMTAN BLACK JUSTICE JW. Dark brindle. This young dog was the best balanced in his class today. Beautiful blend of bull/terrier with completely correct size, good substance and muscling. Beautiful head shape, dark round eyes, excellent feet and straight legs. Correct topline. Moved well all around and very sound and secure. 2nd McClements' STORMFIRE BILLY-BOY AT JODANZAC. Dark red youngster shown in excellent condition and form. Beautiful breed type. I really liked this dog all the way around. He unfortunately lost the class on his topline and side gait, showing too much dip in the backline. Excellent substance, pigmentation. Good head, correct eyes, bite. A really nice dog with loads of virtue. GRADUATE DOG 1st Walker & Rollins' SEENWORSTAFF TRUE GRIT FOR JANIKASTCO. This red dog showed well with a keen expression and attitude. Well balanced, correct size and well muscled and good condition. Good head shape with strong scissors bite, large teeth, well sprung ribs, compact. Moved and handled well. 2nd Payton's TONPAY BARMY ARMY JW. Black brindle dog that was shown in absolutely excellent hard condition. He has an ideal coat - short and close. Good substance, dark round eyes and correct expression. He did not show all that well and needs some further experience with his handler. POST GRADUATE DOG 1st Ryan's RUBERICLA BLACK STARSCREAM. Black brindle with super breed type. Strong virtuous head, dark eyes, strong scissors bite, short foreface, correct under jaw, well muscled head. I would like to see some more depth of brisket and body, but he is nevertheless an overall good dog. 2nd Daly & Lees' MICHENIL MAGICAL MIDNIGHT AT BOSCADOR. Strong headed blue dog, but unfortunately badly undershot bite. He has good substance and correct size and balance. LIMIT DOG 1st Monestina's ITCHEBOREN NIGHT FURY DUSTBLAZE. This dark brindle dog fits the breed standard in most every respect. First, he is so well balanced and shows complete moderation in every department. Moved well both front and rear as well as from the side. Excellent head shape, correct dark round eyes and keen expression, short foreface, well muscled head, scissors bite, strong teeth, neat rose ears. An outstanding young dog from every angle. Deep, correct front and strong rear. It was a pleasure to award him the CC today and he should have a very bright future! 2nd Cramer's STAFFSTYLE YOU GOT THE LOVE. Red pied dog that was bigger and heavier in type than the class winner. He is an outstanding dog in a very competitive class. Strong head with excellent shape and angles. He is a substantial and very typey dog with a lot to offer. Did not move as cleanly as the winner. OPEN DOG 1st Martin's ROUGHNECK'S SUN DANCE KID AT ALVIS. Red & White. In Open, this dog showed outstanding balance and blend of bull and terrier beyond the others. Great substance and type. Terrific head, ears and bite. Sharp expression. This is a very sound dog with many virtues. Good depth of body, width and topline. He was a real eye catcher from the start of the class and fits my picture for type and substance in an adult dog. Moved and handled very well. 2nd Hedges & Bogovcic's CH. SUURISUUN BOPPINGHAMS BIRULAI. This red and white dog was very competitive in his class all around. He had the best side gait movement and topline in his class and in the entry overall. Good head shape, scissors bite, nice expression. A very well balanced dog that is attractive to the eye and a great outline. Well angulated rear and good front. Correct feet. A dog of real moderation, but I would prefer more of him all around. Nevertheless he stands out among his competitors. VETERAN DOG 1st Fletcher & Seedhouse's GRANITEANGEL SOLAR FLARE. Red pied 9 year old of correct size and very nice type. Showed with delight and enthusiasm. He was upbeat. Well pigmented, good head, correct bite, dark eyes and presented a well balanced picture. BITCHES 1st McClement's JODANZAC BRINDLE PRIDE. A beautiful tiger brindle puppy with correct breed type who I liked from the start. She is well balanced, great head shape and expression, correct rose ears, good substance. She is a well blanced blend of bull and terrier who moved well. I love seeing tiger brindles, which unfortunately are not seen often enough, especially with such quality. 2nd Canavan's BOLDROCK I FOO KING CAN. A dark brindle, well balanced puppy with good muscling and bone, correct head and ears, scissors bite. Good , tight feet and moved well. PUPPY 1st Martinez's BULLBROTHERS EUPHORIA. Dark brindle. Really well balanced and a winner in every department. Good head, clean foreface and neck, although ears somewhat untidy. She is ideal size and has excellent feet and good angulation in rear and shoulders. JUNIOR 1st Tibby's ENGLADIAN HEADS I WIN OF NOFEARGEAR. This black brindle bitch has an excellent head and expression, correct foreface and cheeks, clean neckline, scissors bite. She is ideal in size and type, short coupled. She stood up well but needs to handle better on the move. 2nd Hart's ITCHEBOREN ROUSE RITALBEMAR. Red bitch of beautiful breed type. Very close and competitive with first place winner. Excellent pigment, dark eyes, deep bodied, well sprung ribs and good topline. YEARLING 1st Desmond's ELITEBULL ELEGANCE JW. Black brindle. Expertly handled with a beautiful head and she has excellent breed type. Moved well front and rear. Beat second place bitch on movement up and back. Strong and correct topline and has strength all around. Correct size and blanced throughout. 2nd Ryan's RUBERICLA LITTLE BUMBLEBEE. Black brindle. She is very similar to the class winner in many respects. She has a better head than first, but did not move as well. Correct rose ears, dark eyes, plenty of substance. Great head shape, good muscle. GRADUATE 1st Wilk's MISHDAR'S SPECIAL ORDER FOR JEVACES. Black brindle. This bitch possesses good balance, correct size, super head shape and good breed type. Correct neck and shoulders. Topline is ok and she has good angulation and strong rear. 2nd Hornsby's ZAKSTAFF JESSIE JAY AT SHOGUNSTAFF. Upstanding dark brindle bitch with plenty of strength and substance. Handled well in good condition and moved cleanly and with purpose. POST GRADUATE 1st Thomas' SUNNYSTONE OLYMPIC DREAM. A smaller black brindle. Short coupled, strong head, foreface correct, good bite. I would like to see more upper foreleg length on her and tidier ears. Well substance bitch overall. 2nd Hornsby's ZAKSTAFF JESSIE JAY AT SHOGUNSTAFF. See above, but in this class she was completely different type than class winner. Could have given her first here on a different day. LIMIT 1st Scotland's CALLASTAFF MADAME GEORGE. This bitch is true quality in so very many ways. She was the best mover, both up and back in this class. Excellent strength and substance, correct size and angles. Excellent head shape, eyes and ears. Good topline and a picture as an outline. 2nd Hyde's SEDGBRED BEACON BARONESS JW. Dark brindle who has outstanding depth of body and undercarriage and spring of rib. Short coupled. Ideal in size, balanced with good head, dark round eyes, correct scissors bite. Moved well all around in a competitive class. OPEN 1st Birbeck's CH. BELLAROUGE BLITHE SPIRIT JW. Red fawn who stood out in her class from the moment she walked into the ring. This one could win anywhere, and would be competitive in any country. Outstanding breed type and ideal balance and bull and terrier. She is correct size, and can stand with any dog as far as strength and outline. What I love about her is that as a bitch she is not small and weedy, nor leggy and racy in any way. All too often judges in our breed feel compelled for some strange reason to put up bitches that are far "less" than dogs, even though the breed standard has never distinguished this between dogs and bitches. The same adjectives and descriptions applies in the standard to both dogs and bitches and this bitch exemplifies that standard. She has a correct strong head, small rose ears, correct large teeth and a scissors bite, short foreface, correct neck and shoulder angulation forming into a good topline and correct closely fitting coat. What is truly outstanding about her is her incredible rear strength and second thigh development, which while full of muscling, she moves effortless and cleanly from behind. Good tail set and handled well with steady calmness. She is just super in almost every respect and it was a pleasure to award her the CC and BEST OF BREED today. 2nd Davies' CH. SEBSONIC SHINEALIGHT AT STORMBULL JW. This dark brindle bitch was up against some fierce competition, but let me be clear she is absolutely outstanding as well. She would also be competitive anywhere. I just love her compactness and her head and front. She has a beautiful strong, yet feminine cast to her head, rose ears, scissors bite. A clean wide front with round bone and forelegs with good feet. She moved well both front and rear and her breeder and owner should be very proud. Correct topline and tail set and a beautiful coat. Easy to award her the RCC today. Judge(s): MR ZANE SMITH |
