WEST HIGHLAND WHITE WELKS 16 Judge(s): MRS C E CARTLEDGE West Highland White Terriers Just as I had hoped there was an enjoyable entry of 58 – we started outside on green grass, but it was bitterly cold & quite windy so when it started to rain I ‘chickened out’ & moved inside much to the relief of my stewards who had a bit of a job to keep slips & paperwork under control! Yes, Westies do look better on green grass but to give them credit the bitches continued to show with spirit indoors. I don’t mind a bit of chalk, mostly brushed out, but I don’t care for all the products used nowadays. Some of the very sticky stuff used on heads & leg hair is going too far in my opinion. There was a bit of variance in size today but I was pleased with the quality generally. Hind movement was good but some lacked reach & strength in front. Temperaments were excellent, one or two podgy ones, presentation in a few left something to be desired. Disappointing to have no dog puppies at all. MPD & PD (0). JD (4,1a) Lovely class, three good juniors. 1 Gaydon’s Hopecharm Tony One, 16 months, quality head, dark eyes, good width of underjaw, shortest of backs, firm fit body, good tailset, harsh jacket, keen showman, moved well once he settled, very well presented as was 2 Foster’s Hillsted Masquerade at Thozow, 17 months masculine youngster in excellent coat & form, lovely neckline, deep chest, sound mover, well coated & conditioned. Just preferred expression of 1; 3 Dale’s Lynnsto Judgement Day. PGD (1) 1 Bartley’s Atelib Playing The Star, 2 years, harsh jacket, masculine head, standing a bit slack in front. Good body & bone, stood alone here so not much incentive to show off, could carry his tail more positively. Room for improvement in presentation. LD (4,1) 1 Jenning’s Comdale Johnny Junior, 2 years, gorgeous coat of harsh texture, attractive head, well pigmented with dark eyes, good reach of neck, compact body, good topline, steady showman, went well, wiry hair in place; 2 Lilley & Milling’s Lilmill Nosey Parker, 2½ years, no mistaking his sex as he is masculine & positive in head & outlook, clean neckline, well muscled quarters, moved with animation. Winner had the edge on presentation; 3 Carlinn & Gillott’s Lizandycris Line Me Up. OD (6,1) 1 CC, Smith’s Lizandycris Call My Bluff at Roxberg, 3 years, impressed from the start, excellent outline & proportions, straight dome to skull, correct stop, dark expressive eyes, good pigment, reachy neck, short back, good bone & substance, fit body, confident showman with an air of importance, splendid coat & presentation, moved very well, expertly handled; 2 Del Pino & Kryszak’s Gib Ch Krystof Sunshine Celebration, 2 years, short backed young man, quality head, excellent neck & overall balance, harsh coat, strong quarters, plenty behind the tail, moved well going away but front not as good as winner; 3 West’s Ch Tomlyndon Eager Ernest. MPB (5,2) Three litter sisters, proper little hooligans! 1 Jasper’s Clavelshay Christina, 6 months, pretty head, dark sparkling eyes, held herself together better than her sisters & showed quite well, tail on top, good body, moved OK; 2 Jasper’s Clavelshay Cassiopia, feminine puppy with excellent pigment, again good body, adequate mover. Looked a little long cast; 3 Jasper’s Clavelshay Clarissa. PB (5) 1 Burns’ Burneze Copyright, well constructed typy puppy of 9 months plus, good head & expression, well bodied, held her topline going round, well fitting jacket, easy mover, steady showgirl, well presented; 2 Dale’s Lynnsto Grace And Favour, 11 months, smart little bitch with excellent coat & presentation, feminine head & expression, showed with composure but I’d like to see her move with a bit more reach in front, well handled; 3 Harper’s Westigo Flirty Gertie. JB (7,1) 1 CC & BOB, Burns’ Burneze Our Marnie, stunning puppy, litter sister to PB winner, quite the accomplished showgirl already, lovely type & size, gorgeous head, expressive eyes, neat ears, good pigment, so well balanced & together, firm fit body, used her neck perfectly, super topline & coat texture. Could not fault her standing or moving, truly looked a picture. It’s not like me to fall for a puppy so completely & utterly but I did today, heard afterwards this was her second CC! Good luck, she is a star in the making; 2 Fox’s Hillsted Sweet Mystery, size bigger than 1, nearly 18 months, clean silhouette, good body & bone, moved & showed with spirit, well presented; 3 Griffiths’ Top Secret De New Gryffindor at Karamynd. PGB (11,3) 1 Dale’s Lynnsto Issa Star, 18 months, eyecatching most attractive youngster, comfortable class winner, well proportioned, clean neck & shoulders, short back, excellent coat, attractive head, focused showgirl, well handled; 2 Lilley & Milling’s Lilmill Bubble And Squeak, 2½ years, bigger bitch but not everything in proportion, good tailset & reach of neck, well muscled quarters, shapely body. Could be a little more feminine in head & expression; 3 Carlin & Gillott’s Lizandycris Thistle Dew. LB (7) 1 Gale’s Gilbri Town Gossip, 3 years, well proportioned bitch with good outline, plenty of body today but this did not affect her movement which was free & easy, pleasing head, good quarters, firm topline, excellent coat; 2 Squire’s Dashing Devil’s La Diva, 2¾ years, showy & switched on, keen & eager responding well to her handler, short back, well carried tail, good body, typical head. Just not as fluent on the move as 1; 3 Woodward’s Fernsunrise Face The Music. OB (5) 1 RCC, Jennings’ Comdale Lovely Molly, coming up to 3 years, excellent type & size, spotlessly clean & very well turned out, good coat texture, attractive head, dark eyes, strong body, short back, good reach of neck, assertive showgirl who moved well; 2 Hands’ Crinan Calista, 3½ years & not far behind winner, excellent type & quality, sturdy body, good silhouette & overall proportions, quality head, totally laid back about it all, relaxed character, moved & showed well, well presented coat; 3 Coley’s Karamynd So What at Kingsview.
