WEST HIGHLAND WHITE JUDGE WELSH KENNEL CLUB 14

West Highland White Terriers

There was an entry of 59 dogs for my first CC appointment & I enjoyed judging the breed at top level. I was surprised to find that quite a few had a lot of chalk still left in the coat, creating white clouds when patted lightly on the back. I thought the idea was that chalk can be used for cleansing purposes but should be brushed out. A few were more grey than white & lacked presentation skills but they were in the minority.

VD (1)

1 McLoughlin’s Ley Hey Living Legend, 9½ years, there was nothing old about this chap, obviously loved & well cared for. Masculine head & outlook, confident showman, good coat texture, strong body, well ribbed up. Could have moved with a little more terrier spirit but he was on his own with nothing much around him to get excited about.

MPD (1)

1 Purchon’s Lindenka Chesterman, 8 months, attractive, confident puppy, pleasing head, good pigment, black nails but they need clipping. Standing just a little bit flat on his front feet. Strong body, good tailset, steady showman. Still got his puppy coat so not very harsh as yet.

PD (2)

1 BP, Lilley & Milling’s Lilmill Nosey Parker, 10½ months, no shortage of self esteem here. Masculine head with good expression, excellent bone & depth of body, well muscled quarters, good reach of neck, natural showman, plenty behind the tail, well presented & handled. Beat his sister for BP;

2 Cooper’s Brorastar Sergeant Pepper, 9 months, harsh jacket, lovely dark eyes full of expression, fit body. Bit of a handful with a will of his own, did not settle to move properly.

JD (4,1a)

1 RCC, Dale’s Hopecharm Edd Turner at Lynnsto, 13 months, lovely youngster with classy head, dark intelligent eyes, splendid body, neckline & quarters, well proportioned with short back, good tailset & carriage, excellent coat texture & presentation. Moved & showed well here but just a little unsettled in the challenge & had to settle for the small green card;

2 West & West’s Tomlyndon Eager Ernest, 14 months, good looking young man, in excellent form, no mistaking him for anything but a male in head or outlook. Compact body, used his neck well, harsh jacket, very fit, positive showman & mover;

3 Coles’ Reifrandies Esprit D’amour.

ND (0).

GD (1)

1 Windram’s Louie Conquistador, 3 years, honest dog with harsh jacket, failed a little in topline & tailset. Could have moved & showed with a bit more animation. When he saw something of interest he did use his neck.

PGD (4,1)

1 Coley’s Kingsview Warwick, 20 months, fit looking youngster who made the most of himself. Typical head, dark knowing eyes, good neckline, body & overall proportions, steady showman, went well; 2 McLoughlin’s Ley Hey Latest Legend,

2 years but a bit of a teenager still, needs more body & not moving as well as 1. Good coat, short back; 3 Goodwin-Nolan’s Mac With Out A Doubt.

LD (8,2)

This was a good class which took a bit of thinking about.

1 Hughes’ Brychdyn Diamond Geezer, 3 years, never put a foot wrong & made a very good overall impression, kept going right to the end. White clean coat of good texture, lovely presentation, pleasing head & expression, good body & ribcage, tail on top, plenty of drive on the move. Sound;

2 West’s Tomlyndon Power Of Love, 3 years, short backed male with good neck & shoulders, firm body, again very well presented & handled. Typical head, keen expression. Not moving quite as well in front as 1 but that is being picky;

3 Lilley & Milling’s Krisma Line Danger at Lilmill.

OD (5,2)

Only three but three good ones.

1 CC, Carmichael’s Can Ch Windacre Ready To Rhumble, 2 years, spotlessly clean coat of harsh texture, really looked the part in every way, quality head, keen intelligent expression, well balanced, good neckline, body & quarters, very fit with good muscletone. Free easy movement, composed showman;

2 Noyce’s Ch Maxula Name Of The Game, 5 years, quality dog of excellent type & size, positive showman, masculine head, very good pigment, short back, level topline, splendid coat, plenty of power behind but not 100 per cent in front action;

3 Corri’s Inverglen Lord Of The Manor.

VB (1)

1 BV, Gaydon’s Ch Wistonant Royal Ruby at Gilbri, delightful 9 years old, still has a very good head & expression, clean neckline, sturdy body, well proportioned, focused showgirl, very well handled by young Miss Gaydon who had her charge well under control. A little slack in topline going round but got her act together well when standing.

MPB (4,2)

1 Macbean’s Pryorvale Love Me Do, 6 months, pretty puppy of good potential, most typical head & expression, dark eyes, already the promise of a harsh jacket. Got her tail up on the move, sympathetically handled;

2 Stock’s Lindenka Treacle Toffee, 8 months, litter sister to MPD winner. Good bone & body, excellent ribcage, clean & well presented. Shade long in foreface. Could move with more drive behind.

PB (3,1)

1 Lilley & Milling’s Lilmill Bubble And Squeak, 10½ months, litter sister to winning PD, not the bone of her brother & not so forward. Good outline & body, showy & cooperative, good neckline, well turned out coat, handled to advantage;

2 Thomson’s Dylandougie Ayr to Ashgate, same age as 1. Shapely body, well proportioned, compact with good neck which she used on the move. Bit excitable today & took time to settle. Failed on ear carriage & expression.

JB (5)

1 Dale’s Lynnsto Candy Crush, 15 months, easy winner here. Lovely silhouette & proportions, quality head, neat ears, beautifully presented, moved well behind, steady showgirl, well handled;

2 Macbean’s Pryorvale Whisper, 12 months, feminine yearling, could carry her tail more positively on the move. Attractive head, dark eyes, very good coat texture, excellent neck & body;

3 Bacon’s Reifrandies Furzey at Cabon.

NB (0).

GB (3,2)

1 Rose’s Jopeta Kute Krystal, 2 years, well up to size for a bitch. Would prefer a harsher coat & better presentation. Typical head, serious expression, moved OK but standing rather slack in front. PGB (5) 1 Morton’s Swifdon Stormy Days, 3 years, typy bitch, beautifully clean coat, tail on top, typical head, sound mover, showed well when something took her interest;

2 Coley’s Karamynd So What at Kingsview, 20 months, a bit big for me but a gassy & animated showgirl who never gave up for a second. Attractive head, good bone, body & ribcage, moved with drive wagging her tail constantly;

3 McLoughlin’s Llovall Look Here Ley Hey.

LB (8,2)

Good class.

1 RCC, Gale’s Gilbri Town Gossip, 2 years, top quality bitch of excellent type, feminine head, very good pigment, short back, sound mover, very well presented coat of harsh texture, stylish showgirl, good reach of neck. Litter sister to 2 in OB;

2 Griffiths’ Krisma Asking For Trouble at Karamynd, 3½ years, rather a big girl. Another short backed bitch who used her neck to advantage. Pleasing head, keen expression, good bone & body, steady showgirl, moved OK;

3 Owen’s Egremont Seventh Heaven.

OB (4,1)

Even class, three good bitches.

1 CC & BOB, Morton’s Brychdyn Carrie On Swifdon, 3 years, classy bitch in top form, great silhouette, lovely coat & condition, switched on cooperative showgirl, free mover, tail on top. I liked everything about her, most appealing head & expression, dark eyes, excellent mouth, well balanced, clean neck & shoulders, sturdy body, good bone, well presented & handled;

2 Gaydon’s Ch Gilbri Town Tease, 2 years, very good quality & type, excellent presentation, good head properties, short back with good depth of body, held her topline going round. Tail carriage not as assertive as 1 or her litter sister. Worthy ch;

3 Smith’s Ch Faymar Fine Romance.
