BEST IN SHOW FOX TERRIER CLUB OF SCOTLAND NOVEMBER 18th 2017

Jenny Thornton (Judge)

Many thanks firstly to the hard working committee of Fox Terrier Club of Scotland, I appreciate all the effort required into organising a show. It was a great honour to judge Best in Show at this long established club particularly as it was this club that gave me my first CC appointment judging Smooths there in 1992. Twenty five years down the line and how times have changed, there were 96 Smooths back then making a total entry of 125.
My co judges Margaret Rose and Ann Wurtzburg sent through excellent examples of their breeds:-

Best in Show was the Smooth Broom’s Ch Oaxaca Del Boy with Roxway who has been the top winning smooth for the past two years amassing some 15 CCs. He is an excellent example of the breed having a good head ample neck, short level back, good tail set and carriage, good legs and feet and is of ideal size. He moved and showed well and was put down to the minute.

Reserve Best In Show
was the Wire O’Donoghue’s Ir Ch Blackdale Park Royal, a dog with all the essentials, excellent headpiece, long neck into well laid shoulders, level top line, well angulated quarters, all that and excellent free movement, credit must go to his young handler. It was a close decision but I preferred the size of the Smooth.

Best Puppy in Show
was the Wire O’Donoghue’s Blackdale Celtic Beauty and what a beauty she is, daughter of the BOB winner I am sure this young lady will have a bright future and at just 8 months what a show girl. Lovely head with correct sized ears which she used well, lovely neck, shoulders, top line and quarters. All this and sound movement too, she just needs to develop and mature, once again credit to young Kellie O’Donoghue for excellent handling.

Reserve Best Puppy in Show
was the Smooth Griffiths & Fallon’s Yoxella Wind in My Sails a 9 months male having an excellent head and ears, good body shape with lovely bone, legs and feet. He is a sound moving dog but unfortunately just tired in his showmanship for the final analysis which was a shame.

Best Veteran in Show

The two veterans sent forward were Coutts’ 9 year old Wire Ir Ch Brocolitia Talk of the North Ir Jun Ch, Ir Vet Ch ShCM and Bissett’s 7 year old Smooth Turflindie Miss Symphonee, both typical representatives of their breed and both showing and enjoying their day out. I just felt that Talk of the North had more precise and positive movement on the day and therefore he was awarded BVIS.
