Firstly I would like to thank the Crufts committee for inviting me to judge Wire Fox Terriers at the world’s largest dog show. The entry was fantastic, 72 dogs making 81 entries in total so a thanks to all the exhibitors, I thoroughly enjoyed my day. Finally to my two stewards Bob Potts and Ruth Calvert Smith who kept everything flowing well.

VD (4,2):

1. Coutts’ Ir Ch Brocolitia Talk O The North ShCM, JW. 7 year old dog of correct size who was well presented. Reasonable head, enough neck short back, tends to be a little proud of his tail. After a shaky start he moved well once he settled down.

2. Smith’s Lenicka Viking ShCM. 12 year old dog with a good head, maybe a little long cast but representing himself very well indeed for his age.

PD (4,1):

1. Van Weersch’s Paperman Roadmaster. Super upstanding young dog, quite heavily marked, shown in fine form. He has excellent head and ears giving the correct expression. Good neck and shoulders firm back and topline. He moved and showed really well. Should have a bright future. BP.

2. Dodds’ Skerli Union Jack. Another good type of dog. Not as clean in back skull as 1 nor as precise in movement, but a good make and shape over all. He is of a good size.

3. Knowles’ Praenobilis Clash of Kings. A smaller dog who is not as mature at this stage as those above him. He has a good head and expression and is short coupled. More care is needed with presentation.

JD (4,1):

1. Schoneberg’s Nethertonion Precision. A heavyish marked dog who has a lovely head, ears eye and expression. Good neck and shoulders, short back, well let down quarters. Moved OK once settled.

2. Garcia Ibanez’s Cacopoulos Vladimir Volturi. Smaller type of dog who has a decent head, enough neck, short back, good set on with well-developed quarters. Moved OK.

3. Harding’s Hardirosella Heartthrob. A rangier type all round who has yet to fill to his frame. He has a good head but is longer cast than those above him. He is a little proud of his tail which spoils his outline. His young handler gets the best out of him particularly on the move. Well done Connor!

PGD (8,2):

1. Barker & Schoneberg’s Nethertonion Optimist. A well grown hound marked dog who possesses a super head with well-placed ears, good eye giving the correct expression. Excellent neck and shoulders. Just at the in between stage at the moment. Just needs time to fulfil his potential.

2. Wurtzburg’s Blackdale Buccaneer of Russmews. Different type to 1. He is a more compact, cobbier type of correct size. . Not quite the head of 1 but a sound dog who moved and showed well. In good order and well presented.

3. Anderson’s Brocolitia Stage Manager. Showy dog, who has a nice outline. A little upright in shoulder which affected movement. Shown in good coat & condition but nails need attention.

LD (13,2):

1. Christ’s Joker Des Astucieux De Kerlabour. This is a lovely dog who is marked to advantage. Good head and expression, lovely neck into well laid back shoulders, short back, well let down quarters good tail set and carriage. He is a very balanced dog. Sometimes not as at 1 with his handler but moved OK once settled. I was pleased to award him the Res CC.

2. Nixon’s Willowyre Wings of Steel. Another short coupled dog of correct size, good head ears and expression, enough neck, good shoulders short back, tail on top. Moved very well. A steady showman and beautifully presented as you would expect from this owner/handler.

3. De Munter-Uiterwijk’s Lionheart van Foliny Home. Unfortunately the handler left the ring before I had time to write my report on him. It was an oversight on the handler’s part and not done deliberately.

OD (9,3):

What a fantastic class this was and a privilege to judge such outstanding dogs.

1. Malzoni’s Ch Travella Striking Steel. I have judged this dog before and my opinion of him remains the same. Much has been written about him and of course he won more Best In show awards than any other dog here in the UK before he went on to a stellar career in South America. He excels in head ears and expression and is so well put together all through. Excellent shoulder placement, enough neck, short back with tail on top. His movement is a joy to watch, absolutely true with free flowing, easy gait. Prepared to perfection and in tune with his handler at all times. CC, BOB and shortlisted in the Group.

2. Malzoni & De Munter-Uiterwijk’s Ch Kingarthur van Foliny Home. Another dog I have judged before, awarding him BIS at the FTC in 2015 and a top winner here and on the continent. He is of ideal size has excellent head and expression, short back, well let down quarters and looked an absolute picture. Not as precise or free flowing in movement as the winner but an excellent dog nonetheless.

3. Barker & Schoneberg’s Ch Foxcreek Ideal or Idiot. Taller dog than the first two, excellent head, ears and expression. Slightly more refined all through than the first two. Very good mover. Made up a trio of top class dogs.

Good Citizen Dog (2,0):

1. Forman & Jones’ Travella Big Impact at Maidfern. Good head and expression, good neck with correct topline. Moved out well.

2. Hardirosella Heartthrob.

VB (3,1): 1. Smith’s Lenicka Bright Ideas ShCM. An 8 year old in very good form. Good head and ears, excellent clean dentition, good neck and shoulders Moved well.

2. North’s Blackdale Chorus. Another 8 year old of smaller type. Enough head and neck, short back, not the movement of 1.

PB (2,0):

1. Everard’s Praenobilis Ice and Fire at Stagwire. A heavyish marked puppy who has a lot going for her but needs time. Pretty head and ears. A nice shape all round, just needs to settle and would benefit from better presentation.

2. North’s Kiss Me Quick for Anstars. Another pretty bitch almost 12 months old. Good head shape, a little long cast at this stage and looked all legs and wings. She just need time to develop and fill to her frame.

JB (9,0):

1. Radford’ Special Diva. A beautiful balanced young bitch of good size. Lovely in all departments, well let down behind and an excellent mover which is not surprising looking at the breeding.

2. Van Weersch’s Warnell’s Magic Touch. This youngster has a stunning headpiece with excellent ear carriage and expression. She is not quite as together at this stage and needs time to develop. Should have a good future. Well handled.

3. Harding’s Hardirosella Heart and Soul. This bitch has developed well since I saw her last at the FTC show in 2015. Not the head and expression of those above. Moved out really well for her young handler. Well done Paris!

PGB (11,1):

1. Barker and Schoneberg’s Xtra vd Schonen Bergen, This is a beautiful elegant bitch, lovely head, long neck into sloping shoulders, good topline and tailset, well let down quarters. Moved OK when settled. I was pleased to award her the Res CC.

2. O’Donoghue’s Blackdale Rosina. Similar type to 1. Beautiful head and expression, good neck & shoulders, level topline. Moved OK, well handled by Kellie O’Donoghue.

3. De Munter-Uiterwjk’s Norma Jean van Foliny Home. A more compact bitch than those above, neat well set ears, straight front, good body, good quarters. Moved & showed OK.

LB (5,1): 1. Bambridge’s Nethertonion Sweet Chariot of Beckstone. This is a very sound bitch shown in super order, not a hair out of place. Good head and neck, short back, tail on top, good quarters. Moved and showed well.

2. Calais’ Isetta D’Hondrecoutre. Similar type to 1. Good head, neck and shoulders, lovely body shape, moved and showed well.

3. Lilley’s Wyregait Shades of Silver. Showy bitch with good head, neck shoulders and topline. Unfortunately today she was short of both coat and body weight which was a shame.

OB (5,2):

1. Barker & Schoneberg’s Snowbell vd Schonen Bergen. Neat bitch of the size I like. Good head, neck and shoulders, well balanced all through, excellent quarters which she used well on the move. Well-presented and handled. Pleased to award her the CC, her first.

2. Allen’s Travella Sonata. A bitch with great body who has all the essentials, good make and shape, excellent mover.

3. O’Donoghue’s Ch/Ir Ch Blackdale Julie. Well known bitch who was presented in stunning form. Excellent head, ears, neck and shoulders. A little slack in topline today and not co-operating with her handler. Bigger all through than those above. A lovely Open Bitch class.

GCB (2,0) 1. Hardirosella Heart and Soul.

2. Harding’s Beekay Bellissima at Hardirosella. A well bodied bitch who does all that is asked. Shame she is a little proud of her tail. Father had to give way to his daughter in this class.
