FOX WIRE JUDGE LEEDS 21

Having judged Smooths in 2018, I was delighted to get the chance to assess the Wires and was so impressed. You may not have great numbers but the quality and level of competition was intense throughout. I got my eye in courtesy of the brilliant illustrated extended breed standard as my homework. 3 absent from 12 exhibits.

PD (1)

1 Kinson’s Viva Quality Casting Vote. 11 mths, super pup, ticks the boxes, long, lean head, good eye and ears, clean, long neck into well laid shoulder, clean front, level, good body proportions for his age, balanced rear angulation, good tail set with plenty behind it, moved as his conformation suggested, being parallel with balanced stride, good jacket, so well presented and sympathetically handled, just needs added maturity. BPIB.

JD (1)

1 Hughes & Ford’s Alkinra Emperor. 13 mths, maturing beautifully, notwithstanding entering the teenager stage, plenty of refinement in his long head, leading into a neck of equal length, enviable ears, muzzle of good strength, clean and relatively narrow front, level, short loin, plenty behind the tail, moved with a true ‘snatch’ of the hock to propel him forward, quality youngster, well turned out.

LD (1)

1 Griffiths’ Brocolitia Point Of Fire ShCM ShCEx. Four and a half yrs, handsome, masculine male, albeit quite enough of him looking at his overall build. Long head with strong foreface topped by high set and beautifully carried ears, well balanced proportions leading to a high set tail, not always 100% in topline and a little straight in rear compared to his well angulated shoulder.

OD (4, 1)

1 Browne-Cole’s Travella Secret Asset. Rising 3 yrs, bit of a ‘goose bumps’ moment as that illustrated breed standard came to life before me. Lovely headpiece, flat skull, excellent ears, keenly expressive eye, taper to muzzle without losing any strength, spot on proportions throughout, well angulated fore and aft, so short and level, true on the move with balanced, moderate stride, structure enhanced by neckline, good rib and depth, excellent width across his rear, good jacket, expertly prepared, overall he was refined but with no loss of substance. DCC and BOB.

2 Schoneberg’s Paperman Purple. 3 yrs, quality male, well able to press his case. Gorgeous head and eye, clean front and neckline, good in rib and depth, wirey coat, a dog with alert attitude, just a tad longer and less balanced on the move where he lacked the reach in front and was more exaggerated in rear, albeit he kept a sharp, clean outline to annex Res DCC.

3 Rice’s Winning Colours At Duchmorn.

OB (5, 2)

1 Wiggins & Westwood’s Nethertonion Embrace. Rising 3 yrs, outstanding quality as she stood ‘like a short-backed hunter’, feminine, long, lean head, small dark eye, neat high set ear, good neck and forehand, short back and loin into a high set tail with plenty of backside and width behind, well prepared harsh jacket, could have been cleaner coming on but drove true off a low hock to head off the opposition. BCC.

2 Nixon’s Willowyre Whyte Magic. Four and a half yrs, bred in the purple and Travella sired, half sister to the BOB, so full of breed specifics, superb head in its tapered refinement, keen eye, well set ears, head, neck and back all of equal proportions, good tail set with plenty behind it, good jacket that was presented to win, absolutely sound making use of her muscled rear to give a balanced stride, just carrying too much condition over her ribs, as her sporting handler duly acknowledged, that is only temporary, whilst her title will then be a certainty. Res BCC.

3 Barrett’s Tyquin Polar Ice.

VB (1)

1 Griffiths’ Brocolitia Grace Kelly At Starland. Rising 9 yrs, quite remarkable and still with such attitude, so as to lift your spirits. Super headed with an excellent scissor bite, lovely conformation throughout, immaculately turned out, squarely built, plenty behind her, well set tail, so sound moving with an easy moderate stride, such a credit to this famous prefix. Am hardly in a position to criticise, but now just rather too barrelled in rib. BVIB.
