FOX WIRE NATIONAL TERRIER 17 Fox Terrier (Wire) Judge: Miss R Pearce BEST OF BREED : 558 WURTZBURG Mrs D A Blackdale Buccaneer Of Russmews FOX WIRE JUDGE NATIONAL TERRIER 17 Wire Fox Terriers I wish to thank the exhibitors for their support & the committee for working so hard to provide a great terrier show for terrier people. Two main concerns became very evident from having hands on so many of the breed in one session. We are losing our classical breed specific expressions & heads. The good heads could be counted on one hand & there was one exceptional head. The remainder were in general untypical of a Wire, in fact could have been trimmed to look like a variety of other long legged terrier’s heads. The second concern is movement, which in general was deplorable. These issues need to be given some thoughtful consideration in breeding programmes otherwise we may as well just have one generic long legged terrier class, come on protect the breed & think of its future. MPD & PD (0). JD (1) 1 Stagwire Dixie Dean, up to size immature junior. Fair length of head of balanced proportions, could be a cleaner in skull. Nice eye, well set ears which he used well when attentive. Good dentition, good strength through foreface. Good coated dog although not trimmed to advantage, short backed with good set on. Acceptable depth & spring of rib for age but short in ribbing length & would benefit with a better lay of shoulder. Hopefully, with maturity will move with more purpose & drive. PGD (3) 1 Winning Colours of Duchmorn, well sized masculine dog, good coated dog with balanced proportions on the eye. Good head & expression, good dentition, fair neck, good lay of shoulder. Appropriate ribbing, good strength through topline & loin, good set on although doesn’t carry tail to advantage. Well muscled behind the tail, his general muscle condition is one of an active dog. Moved well in front. A little straight through the rear which is highlighted with lack of drive although sound in movement; 2 Wyregait King Of Spin, a more elegant dog than 1, up to size. Fair head piece, good eye, used ears well. Reachy neck, fair lay of shoulder, good depth & spring of rib but short in ribbing – losing shape & strength of topline on the move. Stands slightly sickle hocked, affecting drive in movement. Not shown in his best coat & preferred head & expression of 1; 3 Lanvin Chic du Hallet des Corneiredes. LD (3) 1 CC & BOB, Blackdale Buccaneer of Russmews, mature male with correct wire coat & well defined colours, in full bloom, condition & well presented. Good headpiece, well proportioned, flat, lean, clean skull, good strength through foreface. Well set dark eye, correctly placed ears of correct size to dog & used well giving classic expression. Good dentition. Fair neck, excellent ribbing & body condition. Short back, well set tail, trimmed to full advantage, sound in profile movement; 2 Travella The Super Trooper, a young dog giving a lot away in maturity, & his wire coat left in the trimming room, nothing to hide in his underwear. Showy & raw, his best is yet to come. Good size, well marked. Well balanced, tailset good. Moved freely & with purpose, has ring presence; 3 Paperman Roadmaster. OD (7,1) A very mixed class. 1 RCC, Irvonhill Cider Cup, mature well presented in good condition. Fair head, clean skull, good strength through foreface with good dentition. Good eye & fair set ears, good expression & worked well with handler to show it. Fair lay of shoulder, moved well in front. Good ribbing, good set on. Trimmed to advantage in rear. Moved soundly in profile; 2 Am Ch Hampton Courts Monte Cristo, well up to size with elegant eyecatching ring presence. Clean skull with some length of head but would prefer more strength to foreface. Not making most of his ears which spoilt expression somewhat. Front assembly not this dog’s fortune, that said he has good depth & length of ribbing with adequate spring. Short backed, in hard wire body coat. Good strength through loin & one of the very few on day who walked well in rear with drive & free movement; 3 Multi Ch Gultry Star du Hallet des Corneiredes. MPB (0). PB (2) 1 BP, Malta Ch Ivram Spot On, pretty young bitch with great attitude for baby. Not at one with her handler but she managed just fine. Fair head, good dentition, fair neck, well balanced, markings easy on the eye. Sound front & back. Should mature nicely. Held her own in the big ring taking BPIS3; 2 Wirefire Dangerous Beauty with Maythorpe, a good temperament, but lacks breed type. She has an untypical head & expression, although allowing to be a puppy bitch she is also too small. I hope her handler gains some mentorship from experienced breed specialists & exhibitors as to not to lose his enthusiasm with exhibiting. JB (4) 1 CC, Wyregait Cider With Rosie, best head, neck & lay of shoulder of the day. A really lean, clean skull, good correct level head planes, good strength & fill to foreface, good dentition, keen dark eye, small high set ears carried on top finishing classical expression of a wire. Reachy neck into good lay of shoulder. Keen attentive temperament, very showy on her tiptoes when left alone by handler. Feminine bitch & has plenty of daylight under her currently due to lack of maturity & at full breed height. Ribbing appropriate & as expected for age, maturity will hopefully help tighten front movement. Short back, tail on top, good rear assembly, moves soundly in profile although not at one with handler. Not her time for BOB today but look forward to seeing her in full bloom & ring crafted in future; 2 Eskwyre Scottish Edition at Stagwire, there’s a very pretty quality bitch of good breed type hidden under this untrimmed picture. Another one of the few on the day with a good headpiece. Good lean, clean skull, level flat planes, good fill to foreface & good dentition. Fair length of neck, good shoulder, walks well in front. Great coat texture & clear defined colours. Good ribbing, set on OK & moves soundly & freely. In good coat & condition this bitch would have been called back to challenge for RCC; 3 Mcleanwyre Heartlands Girl. PGB (3,1) 1 Marvidyne Midnight Moon, a well balanced & well presented feminine bitch. A little lack lustre initially but came to life when handled with a bit more gusto. Fair head, clean skull good eye. Fair neck, short back. Moved soundly & benefitted when handler moved at a faster pace. Would like her a size bigger all over. In good coat & condition; 2 Jean de Cresecques avec Furlongfox, another well made bitch, a size bigger than 1. Fair head & neck, good shoulder, well ribbed. Short backed, good set on & well muscled behind tail. Well presented by her young handler. Just lost out in overall expression & rear movement. LB (1) 1 Foxomania Belle Of The Ball, stood alone but worthy winner. Quality bitch. Fair head, clean skull, good fill to foreface, good strength to underjaw & correct dentition. Good eye, well set ear although carried a little light from skull. Fair neck, good ribbing, walked well in front & is sound & free moving in profile. Good set on. Makes a real picture when stands & looks with terrier focus. Good coat & well defined colours, well presented in good condition. OB (8,4) 1 RCC, Irvonhill Dubonnet, no surprise upon reading catalogue to find this bitch littermate to RDCC winner, for me she has the edge over him standing. A well crafted showgirl at ease with her handler & shown to advantage. A pretty bitch with a good lean, clean skull & head of fair length good fill to foreface & good dentition. Good keen eye but overall expression is spoilt somewhat by her ears being carried more in keeping with a Welsh Terrier expression, that said she does use them. Fair length of neck, fair lay of shoulder, walks well in front. Well ribbed, easy balance on the eye, short back, good set on. Rear not trimmed to advantage, a slower pace benefits this girl. Sound in profile movement. Presented in good coat & condition; 2 Aman Crimson Empress, giving a lot away in age & maturity in this class. Feminine with good bone, fair length of head, good eye & expression when settled & focussed to use ears. Lacking depth & maturity of ribbing & is reflected in front movement, another that would benefit from a slower pace. In good wire body coat, good set on & plenty behind tail. Sound in profile movement. A quality bitch, needs to be more at ease with herself & handler in ring; 3 Ir Ch Burrencroft Lady Liz. RACHEL PEARCE |
