FOX WIRE JUDGE SOUTH WALES 13

Firstly I would like to thank the officers and committee of SWKA for inviting me to judge Wire Fox Terriers at this show. The entry of 22 was a good one for these times and compared favourably with entries of the breed at this show in past years. Sadly there were 9 absentees and only 3 males in total. You can only judge the dogs there on the day, not the ones that might have been and I was delighted with my main winners and why not………. my BOB went on to win the Terrier Group and RBIS with the BP winning the Terrier Puppy Group, then crowning it all with the Puppy Stakes overall and then BPIS!!
Thanks also to my ring steward who kept everything in order and also to the exhibitors who came to support, some travelling great distances for Ireland, France and Italy.

PGD (2,1)

1. Russell-Smith’s Davwen Flash Gordon at Ritelsa. An exuberant tallish dog who does not help his handler. He has a good head and ears, enough neck, strong level topline. Moved OK.

LD (1,1)

OD (4,2)

1. Browne-Cole’s Ch Travella Striking Steel. This dog was quite stunning today from the tip of his nose to the tip of his tail. He has a great headpiece, good neck and shoulders, good top line which he holds well on the move, good tail and quarters. He looked in the form of his life and was so well presented. His movement is a lesson and something fox terrier breeders of both coats should aspire to------so sound from any angle, front, back and in profile and completely at one with his handler who takes him at the correct pace. DCC, BOB, Terrier G1 and RBIS. Congratulations to all the connections.

2. Renato’s Ruffled Joy Special. A taller male but one with lots to like. Good head, neck, shoulders and top line. Moved well. Maybe better presentation to the head would be an advantage and just not using his ears as well as the winner. Pleased to award him Res CC.

PB (3,1)

1. Browne-Coles Travella Step Forward. Very pretty bitch, feminine head, good neck and shoulders, short back with level top line. Moved & showed well. What a start to a career for this youngster attending her first show, BP, PG1 and BPIS. Can’t do better than that!!

2. Pearce, Hughes and Hill’s Alkinra Rough Diamond. Another very promising puppy. She has a good head and ears good top line which she carried well on the move. She showed very well indeed for her young handler. Just slightly longer cast at this stage than the winner. Time is on her side.

JB (3,0)

1. Dipple’s Travella Some Quest. Smallish bitch but with everything in the right place. Good head, neck and shoulders. Presenting a good outline. More coat will complete the picture. Moved OK.

2. Hampton and Winter’s Wofferwood Tansy. A bigger bitch of good type. Not quite the head of the winner. Presented in good order and handled so well by a youngster.

3. Tyzack & Heuze Travella Stunning Silk.

PGB (3,2)

1. Renato’s Hagall. Biggish bitch who has a decent head. Unfortunately fighting her handler today and not showing to advantage.

LB (2,0)

1. Wiggins’ Cradleydale Alexis. Loved the body shape of this bitch and in good bloom. Very good headpiece with well carried ears, enough neck with correct shoulders, level top line, short back. She is not easy to handle as she is full of herself but moved well enough to take the CC.

2. Dipple’s Marvidyne Moonshine. Longer cast bitch who was lacking coat on the day. Good head, neck and shoulders. Moved OK but somewhat lacking in animation today.

OB (4,1)

1. Barker’s Irvonhill Poinsetta. Smallish bitch of lovely make and shape. Good head, ears, neck and shoulders. Moved and showed well. Would just like a little more of her all round. Res CC.

2. Magill’s Burrencroft She’s a Hit at Grambrae. Very sound bitch who has a lovely head with correctly placed ears. Somehow today she did not look the part lacking presentation and showmanship.

3. Frost’s Travella Star Choice.
