KERRY BLUE CRUFTS 17 Kerry Blue Terrier KERRY BLUE JUDGE CRUFTS 17 Kerry Blue Terriers First, my thanks to the Crufts’ committee for their invitation to judge at the UK’s premier Championship Show. I dislike being critical for its own sake, however judging today was the most frustrating appointment I have ever experienced. The Standard of handling was appalling, especially in the lower classes. There were times when I thought I was talking an alien language, despite giving clear verbal & visual instructions to handlers as to what I required them to do, i.e move the dog in a triangle using all the ring & then back to the corner & return to me. These are standard instructions for any show at any level, however on the day seemed totally impossible to follow. Many handlers could benefit from handling & ringcraft classes. I gave each handler as many chances as I could to rectify any mistakes or improve the movement etc. unfortunately some very nice dogs lost places because of their handler’s inability to control them or show them to their best advantage. Mouths on the whole were good, correct scissor bite, but some could have done with a clean. I found one level bite. Set-ons not as high as they should be. I was very happy with the depth of quality in the higher classes, it was touch & go for BOB with the dog just finding favour with his colour & showmanship. VD (0). PD (5) 1 BP, Daly’s Commanche Boy, solidly built youngster, plenty of bone & substance, good neck, a little strong in head, moved well; 2 McCann’s Ballybaloe The Minstrel, I liked this youngster a lot, finer build than 1, good head & neck, well balanced & moved OK, would have liked some more weight on him.
